How To Find Hidden In Cosmetics

Hi,

I am wondering if there is a list of hidden gluten in cosmetics. I have not worn any in many years due reactions. The Bare Escentuals are fine but the lips are too thick for me and I want a light lip stick and the eyeshadow wears off so fast it's not worth putting on, I guess a good concealer might help it stay but I am so paranoid of puffy eyes I don't buy that stuff. I got so use to not wearing anything but lipstick on occassion that I forgo everything else but now that I know what I'm looking for I might be interested in wearing some more make up or have a broader range of brands to choose so I just would like to know what hidden gluten to look for in cosmetics.

As far as foods I give up, it's got me half nuts reading about it all so I have decided for the time being to stick to fresh organic produce, meat, eggs and cheese. I am so sick from going off something I hardly ever ate but find out it is hidden in so many things which could account for the reason I have hundreds of products I can't use or food I can't eat and throw out. All the while thinking it was chemical safe with no fragrance, you know all the obvious things and have used organic personal care products & foods for years and all for what, never looking for gluten as a suspect so I'm going to have to revamp all of that.

The crazy thing is I knew any apples that were glazed shiney made me ill but had no clue what the glaze was and didn't look into it, I found at this forum it is made from a gluten grain so there are things I knew made me ill but didn't know why and chose to steer clear of. :(

I am finding the forum so helpful and thank all of you for sharing all this wonderful information that seems overwhelming to me but I am sure will get easy as I go along because I am very use to being extremely careful of things I use, eat and am around.

This is not a comprehensive list, but a good one that helped me begin to recognize what gluten ingredients looked like: (some others are listed b/c some individuals have allergies/sensitivities to soy/yeast). Also--when I contacted benefit cosmetics, they told me all their lipsticks were gluten-free...so perhaps you'd like theirs better?

Yeah, I just noticed my hair gel has Wheat in it..and gluten is in wheat, right? Sheesh..Is this stuff everywhere in life? So, I guess if I put the gel in my hair, the gluten will still absorb through the skin on my head? :(

Yes it has gluten in it.

We don't have to worry about it being absorbed into your skin because the gluten can't get through(unless you have an open cut or something)

The problem with products is you have a high chance of having even traces get into your mouth.

Say you touch your hair subconciously throughout the day and don't wash your hands after you do that and then touch food...now the foods contaminated. There are endless possibilities.

I don't know about gluten in the apple wax but I do know that at the Wegmans I shop at the apples are coated with something called Lac-resin a milk derivitive. Produce was simply listed as a 'food grade wax' and they couldn't tell me what that was. I peel everything unless it comes from my garden.

Hello everyone. I am Elena and am 38 years old. I suspect I have a gluten intolerance even if my celiac panel is ok. I have the following symptoms : facial flushing, Red dots not bumps în face, bloating abdominal distension, hair loss, depression anxiety even with meds and even bipolar. Fatigue extreme to the point of not being able to work. All of these after I eat gluten. Could I have non celiac gluten sensitivity? Thanks anyone else with these symptoms?

Hi Everyone,  I do appreciate your replies to my original post.   Here is where I am now in this journey.  I am currently seeing a Naturopath.  One thing I did not post before is that I take Esomeprazole for GERD.  My Naturopath believes that the decrease in the gastric acid has allowed the yeast to grow.    She has put me on some digestive enzymes.  She also put me on Zinc, Selenium, B 12, as she felt that I was not absorbing my vitamins. I am about 5 weeks into this treatment, and I am feeling better. I did not have any trouble taking the Fluconazole.

I'm sure it's chemically perfect. Most of them taste lousy!

Hi @JulieRe.  I just found your post.  It seems that I am also experiencing thrush, and my doctor believes that I have fungal overgrowth in my gut, which is most likely candida.  I'm seeing my GI doctor next week, so I'm hoping she can diagnose and confirm this and then give me an antifungal treatment.  In the meantime, I have been working with a functional medicine doctor, doing a candida cleanse and taking vitamins. It's already helping to make me feel better (with some ups and downs, of course), so I do think the yeast is definitely a problem for me on top of my celiac disease and I'm hoping my GI doctor can look into this a bit further.  So, how about you?  Did the candida come back, or is it still gone following your fluconazole treatment?  Also, was it awful to take fluconazole?  I understand that taking an antifungal can cause a reaction that sometimes makes people feel sick while they're taking it.  I hope you're doing better still !

I'm so sorry you're going through this—the "gluten challenge" is notoriously brutal, and it's awful to deliberately make yourself sick when you've already found the answer. For the joint pain, many people find that over-the-counter anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen can help take the edge off, and using heating pads or warm baths can provide some direct relief for the aches. For the digestive misery, stick to simple, easy-to-digest foods (like plain rice, bananas, and bone broth) and drink plenty of water and electrolytes to stay hydrated. It feels like the longest month ever, but you are doing the right thing to get a clear diagnosis, which can be crucial for your long-term health and getting the proper care. Hang in there; you can get through this! This article, and the comments below it, may be helpful:
