  1. Thank you so much & just in time too! His appt. is in 1/2 hour. Jackie
  2. Hi, My 17yo son has a dr. appt. tomorrow and I want him tested for celiac. What blood tests should be ordered? I want to make sure they don't miss any. Thanks!
  3. I have found that xanthan gum helps a recipe that is crumbly. For this recipe I would add 1/2 tsp. of xanthan gum in your dry ingredients. I don't use as much as most recipes call for because I think they turn out gummy if I use too much.
  4. Regarding your question about eating breakfast out - you need to be aware that some restaurants use egg substitutes that can contain gluten.
  5. My family likes this Mexican style dip (although we eat it as a meal) that I make. Ground turkey cooked crumbled 1 can refried beans 1 jar salsa Mix beans and salsa into meat and heat it all up. I serve it with tortilla or corn chips and a salad.
  6. When I was having this problem (before going gluten-free) my chiropractor suggested Vitamin B Complex and it helped. Maybe because of the malabsorption? BTW it was in my left eye too and I haven't had a problem since going gluten-free.
  7. Hi Kbabe1968, I have finally been mastering baking some gluten free recipes. The best ones I have found are on www.eatingglutenfree.com . I highly recommend the carrot cake, chocolate cake, and the pumpkin roll. People will never know that it's any different than any other homemade cake. Good luck
  8. Hi Johnsoniu, First thing I would like to stress - ALWAYS read the label - even if it's something that you've been buying right along. Sometimes they change the formulas just for the fun of it. I eat Yoplait and have not seen a flavor that has gluten, nor have I had problems with any of the flavors I've tried. Don't give up eventually you...
  9. Bette Hagman has 2 flour blends that I use. Featherlight mix 1 C rice flour 1 C corn starch 1 C tapioca starch 1 T potato flour (not starch) gluten-free mix 3 C rice flour 1 C potato starch (not flour) 1/2 C tapioca starch I found these and several great recipes on this website: www.eatingglutenfree.com
  10. The cc issue sounded way over the top when I first started eating gluten-free but after only 6 months I know when I've had even a trace of gluten. As people have already posted - be sure to check everything for gluten and eliminate any sources of cc along with an elimination diet. Keep being a loving and supportive guy. It does get easier.
  11. I'm not sure why your bread didn't rise other than the suggestions already posted. But I did find out from another post (not sure what thread) that Xanthan gum has different strengths. I have found that with the Xanthan gum that I use I need to cut back a little or things turn out really gummy - this seems to have helped. The best success I have had with...
  12. The other day I happened to read the label on Nestle butterscotch chips (after I had eaten a handful) and it lists BARLEY PROTEIN as an ingredient. I was sick for 3 days - boy did I feel stupid . I'm sure I used them for making candy at Christmas and read the label. They seemed to be gluten-free from the label and I didn't have any trouble after eating...
  13. Ann1231, I can totally relate! My dd is 15 and my ds is 13. All three of us are now gluten-free. We are "on the road" constantly - meaning right after work we drive to sporting and music practices and events. We aren't staying over night but are on the road during dinner time. It can be difficult and time-consuming planning food. Here are some of...
  14. I've posted several times yesterday and today. I always click "enable e-mail notification of replies" but I haven't received any e-mails and there have been more posts on the thread after mine. Is there something wrong with my account?
  15. I was doing very well being gluten-free until recently. Guess I've become lax about it. I've accidentally gotten glutened several times in the last couple weeks. Has anyone found anything that relieves the bloating and pain? Gas-ex or anything. I look like I'm 6 months pregnant when I've been glutened and it's quite embarassing at work. My stomach...
  16. Are you sure your C isn't from being glutened? Just a thought. Before going gluten-free I was almost always C. Went maybe once a week. Since going gluten-free I only get C when I've been glutened. Terrible bloating and pain then C for several days.
  17. I wouldn't eat the McDonald's french fries (or most of the items on their menu). Please check this link Open Original Shared Link . I was amazed at the things that contain gluten on their menu!
  18. I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the angry child thing. I went gluten-free in Aug. After my 15yo daughter saw so many of my symptoms go away, she asked if maybe she should try gluten-free (she had stomachaches, headaches, terrible shedding, joint pain, etc.) She went gluten-free for 2 weeks and felt much better. Then she and I went on an overnight...
  19. Hi, Just wanted to add my 2 cents . Before I had even heard of celiac I was on the Atkins diet for 2 years. Initially I started it to lose 40 lbs (which I did) but I stayed on it for so long because I felt soooo much better on the diet. I ended up going off the diet (and I won't go into the long story of why). Since going off the diet I gained all...

    ARCHIVED Dove?

I purchased Dove beautifully clean shampoo and conditioner because they seem to be gluten free. However, whenever I use them my arms and legs itch like crazy. Is there something else in them that may be causing my problem? Can anyone suggest another shampoo & conditioner that's gluten-free?
  21. My sister and I both have celiac and we have discovered that before going gluten-free we had to take a larger dose of otc pain meds. If we took 2 advil it did absolutely nothing for our pain. I have always had to take at least 4 at the same time to have any relief. Since going gluten-free I have been taking only 2 at a time. I'm also on Synthroid at a...
  22. I was drinking slim fast optima when I was "diagnosed" with celiac. I e-mailed their website and they gave me the CYA answer that they do not have any gluten ingredients (except the malt flavor) but they cannot guarantee that the suppliers of their ingredients don't have a CC issue.
  23. chgomom, Sorry to hear you're under the weather . I have found this list to be very helpful. Open Original Shared Link Hope you feel better soon.
  24. Thanks Richard , I will definitely check that out. One of the main reasons I have avoided ordering online is the shipping.
  25. There are some really good suggestions posted here. The problem I'm having is that I live in a very rural area in NE PA. Our town has one grocery store and a Dollar General (which doesn't carry any fresh produce). The closest towns with larger and more stores is 30 minutes away. This may not sound like a long distance but I live and work (Mon -...
