It can definitely be related to contractions/labour. Michelle

I was able to labour (and birth) in water, because I chose to have midwifery care and to labour and birth at home. I planned on water for labour, and for birth if it felt right at the time, which it did. The entire process of birthing was directed by me, with guidance of experienced midwives. They didn't not "deliver" my baby, they simply supported me as...

When going through a vbac you need to let go of any worry about how it's going to be this time. This is a different pregnancy and different birth, so it will be a completely different experience. The biggest thing to remember is that you cannot eliminate the pain, but you can affect it with positioning and movement, and you can handle any pain you may feel...

My children and I are allergic to molds & mildew (among other allergies!) Unfortunately, it's impossible to completely eliminate from your environment...and I personally don't think it's worth the cost to test. All houses have some level of mold and mildew, just because there are water sources. Spores easily move from outdoors to indoors, and travel around...

I've had a vbac after two c/s. My first birth was c/s due to breech presentation. I tried for a homebirth vbac with my second baby, but ended up transferring to hospital because I wasn't comfortable at home...that birth ended up as a c/s for a number of reasons. My third baby was born sucessfully at home, in water, with midwives in attendance. It was...

ARCHIVED Ovulation And Coeliac Symptoms?
Michi8 replied to Boffin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
According to my test results, I am not celiac, but I do believe I am gluten intolerant. I was gluten free for 3 months and found that my periods became lighter and less painful (used to get horrible cramps, D, moodiness during my period) and my ovulation moodiness (anxiety) & pain lightened considerably. During this part of my cycle I also suffer from... -

I'm sorry to hear of your loss. Michelle

I second melrobsings' post. Something I tried really hard to do with my wedding was to just let stuff roll off my back. Really tough for someone who has to be in control of everything! My mother had a lot of say about the wedding: hall, church, # of guests...and I just let it go. It wasn't worth a battle, and since she was footing a good portion of...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?
Michi8 replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Even if the US wanted to, it would be next to impossible to set up the same system as in Canada, because the Canadian system has been in place for many years now, and serves far fewer people than the US system would have to serve. I don't agree with this assessment. I don't think that the process of referrals assume people are stupid. If you consider... -

I want to add too, that many times a specialist will ask whether a copy of test results should be sent to a family doctor. I especially appreciate having all my test info kept in my family dr's file...makes it easy to reference. Michelle -

It's unfortunate that you have an opinion that is based on stereotype rather than fact. And it sounds as if you are equating public healthcare with welfare (which is another unfortunate stereotype as well...as there are those here on welfare who do not abuse it, but use it as the "hand up" it was created to be.) Our entire country has public healthcare... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?

I think your perspective on "socialized medicine" is a bit off. Canadian Healthcare doesn't work that way. I am in complete control over decisions about my health care. It is difficult to find the right family physician initially (ie when we moved from out of province), but I've now found a doctor that is supportive and willing to work with me in providing... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?
Michi8 replied to floridanative's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That's ridiculous. How in the heck is a person supposed to guess what kind of specialist they're going to need before they're sick? How much time would it take to find the right fit? So you'd be going by recommendations about how good a particular doctor is, and pick a plan based on his/her participation...but what happens when you do need their services... -
It looks as though Zyban doesn't have gluten in the inactive ingredients, and so may be worth a try. It worked well to help my husband quit...it elminated the cravings for him. Michelle
-
One of the tips I remember about quitting is that you need to avoid situations where there is temptation. In other words, change how and where you take your breaks. Don't go hang out with the smokers, because no amount of determination will keep you from smoking when others are smoking around you and offering you cigarettes. Active smokers are not going to...

Best of luck with quitting! As you know, there are all sorts of products that help with quitting, but, IME, none of them work that well if one is not really ready to quit. I quit for good almost 11 years ago. Tried quitting a few times before that...used nicotine gum and the patch (not at the same time! ) In the end it was will power and timing that...

ARCHIVED Anyone Else See Sicko?

I object to Canadians being called pigs at a trough. Our healthcare is not free, you know. We pay through our taxes, and we pay fees outside covered expenses too. There are certain procedures and tests that are out of pocket expenses (like allergy testing.) We also have extended healthcare insurance (depending on employer) that we pay into. Dental care is... -

In the case of Canada's Healthcare, you can switch to any doctor you wish. We are not told by an insurance company which group of doctors we can choose from. Now, it can be difficult finding the best match for a family practioner, but you can keep switching doctors until you find the best match...it just takes time. When it comes to specialists, a family... -
ARCHIVED Question About Vaccinations
Michi8 replied to gfgypsyqueen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are many more vaccinations given now. At the time I was an infant and child the smallpox vaccine was given and probably diptheria, tetanus and polio vaccines as well. I contracted chicken pox when I was about 6 yo. MMR vaccine didn't exist, and I contracted both red measles and rubella in the same spring/summer, and now I have full immunity against... -
ARCHIVED Hiatal Hernia?
Michi8 replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
A hiatal hernia should not produce an outward bulge. It is the result of the stomach protruding upward through the diaphragm. Depending on the severity you may have reflux symtpoms, or may have no noticeable symptoms at all. I would expect that it can be seen with a barium swallow or ultrasound if the tech is specifically looking for it. Mine was missed during... -
ARCHIVED How Do You Get Your Fiber?
Michi8 replied to Joni63's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This topic is mentioned in the most recent issue of Allergic Living (there is a column on Celiac in it.) Open Original Shared Link According to their published list of fibre sources, flax seed is very high in fibre...better than any of the grain cereals. Flax seed meal is slightly lower in fibre than whole flax seed. Michelle -
I think I've figured out why I find this colour palette so unappealing to me. There is a mix of warm and cool tones (the greys for example...some have blue undertones and some have red). They clash with each other and are hard on the eyes. Personally, I would select either all warm or all cool, but not mix the two. Michelle

I'm going to be a big grump here, and complain about the change. I find the colour combination is odd & unappealing, and clashes with the header in the original blue. Yesterday viewing the forums seemed to coincide with a migraine (I have some visual triggers including lights) and I found it hard on my eyes to view these colours in combination...
