  1. Cool conversation, you all...I look forward to updating when I"ve been gluten-free for longer and I know if it's helping. kbtoyssni wrote: "I guess I'm a FMS sucess story - got diagnosed and figured out the root cause of it." I am so happy to hear that. I think that's key - Not all people have the same trigger for their FMS. Most of the recent...
  2. What a nice surprise to find new gluten-free, lower-cal snack options to satisfy my sweet tooth without the chemicals and gluten. I found them on sale, two boxes for $5, at a grocery store in my town and I bought 2... and YUM! Salty-sweet goodness, low fat and fairly low calorie. Sugary, but not high fructose corn syrup or scary additives. All of LesserEvil...
  3. Yeah, that site is not for the US, nor for New Jersey. It is for the "State of Jersey".... which is in Europe
  4. This conversation is fascinating to me, because I have had severe fibromyalgia for years and been led to believe that while going gluten-free could help... If your symptoms are just form glutening, it's not really fibromyalgia. As you all probably know, fibromyalgia is not a wastebasket diagnosis but it is partly a diagnosis of exclusion... And it has...
  5. Well, all I know is that I asked Starbucks (called their CS line) and they confirmed that marshmellow squares are gluten-free. It's up the individual to trust them or not. I seriously doubt they're made in a gluten-free facility, and would have doubts in general about information provided by Starbucks after hearing a number of stories here from people who...
  6. Bauman College in Berkeley, CA has a program where you can learn to be a natural foods chef - Many of their grads go on to become personal chefs or specialty chefs for ppl with special diets. Betcha they would be quite accomodating to someone who was gluten-free. In fact, I think some of the people who run some of the gluten-free bakeries around here graduated...
  7. Susan - Yay, I'm glad you liked it! I tried it for the first time on Saturday and... OMG ... YUM! It was so good. Which kind did you get? I had the one with anchovies, carmelized onions and kalamata olives. I've heard that they're not doing the briskest business there so I want to make sure I go regularly to support them. Also I was surprised for such...
  8. They're not made with Rice Krispies, that's why they call them "Marshmellow Squares"....
  9. Thanks - I had no idea bout that group, I'll join it right now!
  10. yes! i got it from a website that i fully intend to order some artwork from when I have the $$ Open Original Shared Link Are you about to get married? Mazel tov!
  11. Many of COstco's Kirkland brand vitamins are gluten-free (in addition to cheap!) They all say so clearly on the side of the bottle. Not sure if they have a multi, but I bet they do!
  12. Are Ritter Sport chocolate bars gluten-free? They are from Europe and I know Europe has higher standards for keeping things from being cross contaminated but I'm still nervous. Also, one of the ingredients in the Ritter Sport dark chocolate bar I just bought is Vanillin. Is that gluten-free?
  13. I was told by Starbucks that the only item they have that is gluten-free is the Marshmallow Squares (rice krispie treats). Has anyone gotten sick from eating this item? I was excited that they had macaroons a few weeks ago, but called and found out there was wheat in them. Macaroons are a traditional Jewish Passover food and they never have wheat in them...
  14. This is so encouraging! Thanks, everyone! I have only been COMPLETELY gluten free for less than 2 months, minus 2 days where I tried unsuccessfully to do a gluten challenge. (Preivous to this I had simply reduced my gluten intake greatly, but never fully eliminated it) I am already finding the following: -SO much less gas (thank the Lord!) - Including...
  15. Since we're all talking about Zonulin... I don't know if this has also made the rounds here, but it's an article from last month that I bookmarked out of interest. This is definitely farther behind in the development process than Zonulin, but it holds promise especially for those of us who are interested mostly in avoiding cross-contamination issues. What...
  16. I wish I could find the link for the other drug that's in development stages, which is an enzyme supplement that breaks down the element of gluten that we're allergic to... It is further behind in development (it still can't completely break down gluten in the lab, but they're getting closer). Anyway, my attitude is that even with a med such as this I...
  17. Any local folks around? I know a few people poked their head into another thread about local restaurants but I just wanted to put out another call for people to chiime in if they're from the SF Bay Area or anywhere in NorCal... I'd love to share suggestions of restaurants, doctors, other resources
  18. Thanks for the b-day wishes! So I didn't get to go to Cafe Gratitude yesterday for some gluten-free birthday cake/pie... But I did get a YUMMY dinner at Ajanta in Berkeley, which is the tastiest Indian restaurant I've ever been to. And it didn't make me sick in the least (miraculously, even the dish that contained dairy didn't make me sick... Now that...
  19. So I know I'm not the only one with a Costco membership. What are your favorite Gluten-free things to buy at Costco? So far I've discovered that their Kirkland line of vitamins are mostly gluten-free and say "GLUTEN FREE" clearly on the side of the package (I've so far checked my Fish Oil, Cal/Mag, MSM and Fiber supplements and verified they are all...
  20. I was so devestated to see that Annie's Goddess Dressing has soy sauce (gluten) in it. Fortunately I found a nearly identical salad dressing from a different company that doesn't have gluten. What I"m wondering is, does anyone know which Annie's Salad Dressings are gluten-free? Drew's? Any of the other "natural" salad dressings?
  21. That's EXACTLY my response to this article (which I hope people know I wasn't sharing because I agree with it, but rather just to share something I cam across). I think that people with disabilities' wellbeing is never as important to the medical establishment. I have to be honest, I think there's got to be some financial interests at play here... Such...
  22. This is all very helpful. I wish my doctor was more accessible. Meanwhile, I"m refusing to stress out. I'm getting my blood test on Saturday, I will have been gluten-free for 2 months then with a 2-day gluten-binge a week ago. I also just sent away for the Enterolab tests. So answers will come within the next few weeks, whether or not they are the answers...
  23. Hi donna! Nice to meet you. Where do you live? I"m in Oakland. So I just got an e-mail from Cafe Gratitude (Berkeley/SF)... They are indeed ENTIRELY gluten-free, wheat-free and milk-product-free! I'm so excited. Tomorrow's my birthday and I think I'll treat myself to one of their yummy deserts.
  24. Just got this in my inbox from MedicalNewsToday - Specifically relates to children with Downs' Syndrome. Routine Screening For Celiac Disease Not Always Beneficial Main Category: GastroIntestinal News Article Date: 15 Aug 2006 - 15:00pm (PDT) Doing more is not always better. Improving the quality of medical care does not necessarily dictate providing...
  25. I would love to, but I can't get down to San Jose - I live in Oakland and rely on public transit! Good luck pulling this together though.
