Yep. Me for years. Ran limited blood tests because Celiac runs in my family but totally missed it for numerous reasons and just kept telling me it was IBS caused by anxiety and to take Valium and peppermint oil 'as needed'. I agree with all the above. Doctors are much more onto it these days and the diagnostics are also simplifying . -
WHAT A REPLY. Ha. This made me smile so much for multiple reasons. Timepoor as I'm reading it so won't write as much as I want to but will say I carried Xanax with me for 2 whole years. But never used it again after the last panic attack. What a long time you too were undiagnosed! It's tempting to be frustrated that so much of life was like that...

Wow! This was me all last year. How weird! I really couldn't figure it out and I still haven't. But I do know there are some foods that if I eat a lot of them, I feel like that afterwards. Not because of intolerance (because they're fairly benign ones) but something in the balance. I think it's something to do with protein. I would never eat a whole steak...

I felt worse for a few weeks, in a way I can't quite describe. Most people I know didn't feel that way but I know it's not uncommon. And things that were better felt weird so uncomfortable (ie. stomach all light and airy rather than constantly full). Totally agree with this. I don't eat fake processed foods and do better with 'real' dairy than processed alternatives, but do struggle with things like dairy in bulk. Moderation! I probably always did but am more attuned to gut now and it isn't always chaos so I notice what hurts more than I used to. Other than gluten, it's not going to kill me though...

Ha. Thanks! It does but I like alphabet soup! It seems that 2.2 is related indeed but I'm just not sure (because DQ 2.2 is something coming from 3 snps not 1, as per the others) what defines it (as in the 1 allele or many). I also don't know does everybody have it and just different alleles? I thought I understood genetics and I don't. ha. I thought... -
About 24 hrs. With my grandmother it's 7 days, like clockwork. It must vary a lot.

Just adding in that other intolerances are common BUT I was reading a study last night about how gluten-free diets lead to a reduction in various good bacteria and things like butyrate so a lot of people simultaneously have improved digestion but also alterations and sometimes other sorts of worsening on it.
