ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)
Saz replied to Aussie Peg's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I don't think all anitbiotics are gluten-free. I know that Iron tablets used to have gluten in them, wich is unfortunate fi you have to have it because the liquid stuff is the most disgusting on the planet. It tastes like what metal smells like. I know that one type of vitamins (heron or blackmores) Print gluten free on their bottles, it is possible that... -
ARCHIVED Ever Have One Of Those Days?
Saz replied to cowrdlyon's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
We all have bad days. The absoulute best cure is some yummy gluten free chocolate, works for me. Another stragery I use is to tell myself that I really dont wan't that piece of normal bread, How much better am I really going to feel if I eat it? Also are there any coffee shops/ cafe's near you that do really nice gluten-free cakes etc? There is one in... -
Well I tired to make some Ginger biscuits today and had a few problems. Firstly I let the dough sit in fridge for the time the recipe said, after I tired to roll it out , I realised that it was still a bit sticky and so had fun trying to lift them onto the trays. After I got them out of the oven I discovered that the biscuits had stuck to the paper...

Mango- try the muffins from Muffin break if you come across them, very good! -
Hang in there it will get better. Have a really good look at foods when you do your shop- you will be surprised at what you can find. Also check out health food shops as they stock some biscuits and things that you can't buy at the supermarket (At least here in Australia) Also check menus of restuarants and cafes as you are walking past, I have found...

I have found the yummiest Chocolate on planet! Tropical Source, is amazing. They are seem asociated with Eskal. It is a bit expensive, but so good, and they're are diff types as well, I am currently munching on mint choc chip. I got it from the Darrel Lea shop but have also seen it in a health food shop. It says that it is made in a dedicated... -

ARCHIVED What Would You Do If There Was A Cure?
Saz replied to cgilsing's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have to say if their was a cure, wheather it be a med, injection- whatever I think that I would have to take it. Provided of course that it was going to work or in the case of it being used to treat other more "serious" illness/ disease, that person would not miss out because I had it. I also think it would be a great benefit for children. I was dx... -

What kind of Leda bar was it? Are you talking about the single ones that you get from coles? I have seen these but not bought any as I thought they might taste a bit heavy. I got some of the leda fruit filled bars today, not bad, but not really to my taste. Oh by the way I highly recomend their Minton biscuits, they are the best, they recently changed them... -
ARCHIVED Do Any Biopsy-positive Celiacs Get Offended When Someone With
Saz replied to Nantzie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I agree with what others have said - celiac or gluten intolerant, both end in the reasult, not being able to eat gluten. When I have to explain my food needs to someone , I simply say I am allergic to/ can't have gluten. I know that many years ago, a lot of organisation believed that the only true celiacs were dx by biopsy, however I think this has... -
Hey. There is a similar threads around here, but they are manily U.S ones and the ingredients is are often different here. The ones that I can think of at mo, that are safe are: Flakes Twirls Some Mr Mallow products (they say gluten free on the pack)

ARCHIVED Australians And New Zealanders Hellooooooo :)

Thats not good. I would have thought that a major hospital would offer at least a Salad, wich would be naturally ok, I guess I can undertstand them not having a cake, but I'm sure they could get those Bryon bay cookies, there is also another type (Groumet delights I think) I have seen them In some of the Hospitals in Brisbane. -
ARCHIVED Got Really Sick This Afternoon
Saz replied to happy4dolphins's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
GAH! How on earth did I miss that? I got one last week, read the label and must have completely skipped it. Think I will just stick to stuff marked gluten free. btw- M&ms in Australia are a no, no. Wheat starch or flour used in the shells. -
I also used to get quite bad itching, esp after a shower. I call it pin pric itching as it the itches were only in a small area of skin, but all over. I didn't have any marks on my skin tho. One thing that helped me is to use clear shower gels. I still occasionally get itchy skin (such as this morning) but its not as servere and I can deal with it, without...

ARCHIVED Gluten-free Diet Drinks
Saz replied to jim2507's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I read somewhere not long ago that some cloudy soft drinks may contain gluten, tho I'm not sure I've ever come across any. I have heard that some people are allergic to some one of the ingredients in cola drinks, pennyalene or something I think it is. -
I would invest in a good recipie book. The most recent one I bought has a recipie for the yummiest looking crumbed chicken, its made with gluten-free bread crumbs and I swear their are so many herbs and spices in it you prob wouldnt even notice. I'm actaully looking foward to trying it out next week ( I hope)

Well we have a thread for ignorant servers, but sometimes they can be really nice, so I thought I'd start this. Mine is: Had lunch out today and I Know this place does gluten-free open grills so the food was fine. Anyway for what must have been the first time in my life I decided to ask what was in their drinks. I asked about the ice chocs, the chic...

I've never been somone to get sick on just a piece bread, however even I have always had my limits. When I was younger my limit was a lot less than what was since I was prolly about 14, howver even I have been able to eat more gluten in my teens, I most def still have limits. From what I have read tho, this doesn't mean its not hurting you - I think...

ARCHIVED Are celiac disease People Usually Thinner?
Saz replied to kristiney's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was diagnosed when I was 6 and have always been small, even four years ago when I started to eat tons of gluten again I still remained small. Like others have said it can go both ways. I was told that in some people if you are cheating it can make it hard for you to gain weight, but also I think it can be harder to gain/losse weght even if you are following... -
