  1. It is a big deal. Try to ignore them and do what u need to do for your child. My husbands family is the same way. One of my kids doesn't sweat (plus celiac and 2 bleeding disorders), and they keep downplaying that and saying that she is fine and that we shouldn't be so worried about her. You do what YOU need to do for your child and ignore what they say...
  2. I got this in an email today from a celiac. Check it out!! You can check labels from different things and figure out if they are gluten-free or not! Open Original Shared Link
  3. My aunt make if for us sometimes. She uses rice flour and sweet rice flour. Tastes WONDERFUL. There may be other stuff in there (it's too late at night to call her) but I know she uses sweet rice flour.
  4. I admit it, I am jealous!! A week without worrying about finding gluten-free food! And SMORES!! (need I say more??) My dd just left for camp. Her grandmother is taking her up there. I wish I could go! Anyone else sending their child to a gluten-free camp this summer? PS, my oldest dd (not gluten-free) left fot Tennessee this morning with her choir...
  5. The rice chex labeled gluten-free are gluten-free. You should try out the tapioca bread before you stock up on it. IMO, it tastes like cardboard. And it is cheaper to make your own bread. Oats are NOT ok for a Celiac. They are often grown in a field with wheat and processed on the same equipment as wheat. but if you are getting the gluten-free oats...
  6. I also hate veggies. I just can't eat them, no matter how they are masked. I will eat carrots if they are in a stew or something, cooked tomatoes are fine. But things like broccoli and spinach are out of the question. Try the new V8 splash. It has all the veggies you need, and it doesn't taste too bad.
  7. You should not start the gluten-free diet until you are tested, unless you are willing to give up gluten without a doctors diagnosis. The tests will not be postitive it you have been off of gluten for a while.
  8. I made that same mistake too when I first started the gluten-free diet. Just the chocolate ice cream has wheat and oats in it. The vanilla, Chocolate chip, strawberry, hot fudge sunday, and a few others are safe, and we eat them regularly in our house. I live in the town where Blue Bell is made, and I have actually spoken to one of the CEO's of the...
  9. I have actually seen this same exact post before, a few months ago. I have to agree with the waitress on this one. That family should not have walked into a PANCAKE restaurant and DEMAND such service. They can't expect the entire kitchen to stop everything they are doing, putting off other customers orders, just to suit them. Just because a child cant...

ARCHIVED Saw A Gi This Morning. . .

Ok, I don't know if yall will believe this, but here goes. Today the GI doctor CALLED ME to APOLOGIZE for telling me that vomiting is not a symptom. He said that after our conversation, he got to thinking and went and did a little research, and he found out that it IS a symptom. He said he wanted to apologize because he likes to tell patients about things...

ARCHIVED Saw A Gi This Morning. . .

I saw a GI this morning because of some rectal bleeding, diarrhea, and stomach pain. I saw him a few years ago shortly before I was diagnosed with Celiac, but I didn't go back after my PCP told my I had celiac. I just didn't see the need. I was discussing some of the symptoms of my kids, and mentioned how they vomit after they have had gluten. He told...
  12. I found the mixes today!! Krogers in College Station tx had them. They were out of the cookie mix, but i got 2 cake mixes and 1 brownie mix. They were $4.19 a piece, and only make 1 layer. I am really dissapointed by that. I hope the prices come down to match the regular cake mixes! I will make the cake tomorrow (it's my dd's bday) and let yall know!
  13. Now I am dissapointed. I was hoping that they would be cheaper than that. I can get other mixes for that price. Hopefully that price won't stay that high for long!
  14. First of all, you do have to be careful of cross contamination. Think of it as this: Gluten is poison to Celiacs; therefore even a trace amount of gluten will make her sick. You wouldn't ingest something that was cross contaminated with some poisonous pesticide would you? The GI was wrong to tell you that cross contamination isn't an issue. Your child...
  15. I have been experiminting with Chebe bread recently. My family and I LOVE the taste, but it can be so chewy and crunchy on the outside. My kids really don't like this. Is this normal? Is there a way to keep it from being so chewy?? Thanks! PS, I made fried pies yesterday using Chebe bread. They were so GOOD! I just have to remember next...
  16. I was bullied througout my school years. I lived in a small town my entire life, so I knew these kids from kindergarten. I was teased because I was shy and I had red hair. Then my mom became a teacher at my elementary school and it got worse. I was even bullied by my 5th grade teacher because my family was a member of the same church as her and we were inactive...
  17. The chocolate and strawberry chex are also gluten-free. They are just harder to find.
  18. Below is is list that has been posted on here before. Read it, start your own word file on your computer to copy and paste everything into, and start collecting recipes. Good luck! You have come to the right place. There are lots of wonderful people here. ********************* 1. Take a breath!!! You're not going to be able to do this overnight...
  19. If a growth doctor promoted celiac, he wouldn't be able to give his high-dollar treatments with growth hormones! That is why he doesn't think that many kids have celiac. He likes his fancy house and huge paycheck!
  20. My family favorite is the "Monkey Munch". Here's the recipe: 1/2 cup peanut butter, creamy style (or permitted nut butter) 1/2 cup margarine , butter or ghee 6 oz chocolate chips 10 cups Rice Chex cereal 2 cups powdered sugar 1. Melt peanut butter, butter, and chocolate chips in a saucepan over medium heat. 2. Pour over cereal, coating all...

    ARCHIVED Thyroid

I had an ultrasound on my thyroid a couple of months ago and they found a few cysts. One was different thatn the others, so they did a biopsy on it. It was benign. They really aren't doing anything to deal with the cysts since they don't appear to be causing any problems. I don't know if there is a link, but there very well could be since thyroid issues...
  22. I was one of the few that didn't have the symptom of losing weight before I was diagnosed with celiac. So now I am wondering if I would lose weight if I were to eat gluten. I have been gluten-free for 2.5 yrs. Has anyone else experienced this? I really dont' want to get sick, but I am just curious!!
  23. My problems are not caused by foods. There is something serious going on. Certain labs are off, but they just can't figure out what exactly is going on. Thanks,
  24. I have made a new blog page so that maybe I can get some help in a diagnosis. I have been dealing with some problems and no doctors can seem to figure it out. Please feel free to check it out, pass the address along, anything to spread the word! I need help! Please go to my profile page to find the link! Thanks!!!!!!
  25. I hope they stock it everywhere! My walmart doesn't like to stock stuff that doesnt sell.
