ARCHIVED I Think My Dd Has Adhd
ptkds replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Well, my dd gets lots of exercise. She LOVES going outside. The only time I make her stay inside is if it is raining or if she is grounded (which is rare). And her school has 2 recesses, one in the am, and one after lunch. I sent a link to this article to her teacher: Open Original Shared Link She said my dd showed about 3 of the "signs" listed in the artlcle... -
ARCHIVED Gastroscopy Done - Biopsies Taken - Gastric Ulcers Found
ptkds replied to toomuchagony's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When my youngest dd was 14 months old, she had stomach ulcers. She also tested negative for the H. pylori bacteria. Her gastro told me it was probably from Celiac disease and to remove gluten. We did, and she has done great since! So, I do believe that gluten can cause ulcers in a Celiac, because a 14 month old baby can't be stressed enough to cause ulcers... -
Well, it started with wheat and we all thought we were safe. I guess not! Open Original Shared Link I wonder what will go up next.

ARCHIVED I Think My Dd Has Adhd
ptkds replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Wow! You guys have some great advice! So many of your descriptions of your own kids completely describes my dd. I am going to keep all this wonderful info and make sure my dd gets all the help she needs. Another question: How do you explain/teach your other children to deal with ADHD in siblings? My 10 yr old dd gets SO frustrated and mad at my 7 yr old... -
I think my 7 yr old dd has ADHD. Along with her extra moodiness and behavior problems after she has gluten, she has problems when she hasn't had gluten. She is gonna fail the 1st grade and she is an extremely smart kid! She does fine in school (with behavior), but at home she is a nightmare. She has her good days, and her very bad days. She has bitten her...

I have also been suffering from joint pain since I went gluten-free. My pain triples when I take Ibuprofen and a few other pain relievers (NSAIDS). If you are taking alot of pain relievers, especially ibuprofen, try to go about a week w/out them and see what happens. Staying away from these things doesnt completely get rid of the pain, but it helps me alot...

ARCHIVED Accomodating Celiacs At Potlucks
ptkds replied to acousticmom's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am lucky to live in a town with a small congregation in our church. The ladies usually in charge of pot lucks always want me and my family to attend, so they try really hard to make sure we have safe foods. The lady who usually brings the BBQ brisket (that is absolutley wonderful!) makes sure all her seasonings are safe. I bring a side or two and a dessert... -
I will try to help! One: Most Pillsbury frosting is safe. If you use regualr choc. or vanilla frosting, you will be fine. Two: Most vanilla is gluten-free. McCormick and Adams are both safe. Adams will even state gluten-free on the label. Three: Regular butter/margarine is safe. Since your house is not gluten-free, use sticks so there is no cross...

ARCHIVED Random Celiac/gluten-free Thoughts For The Week...
ptkds replied to buffettbride's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are right about the spelt thing. It is so frustrating how even those health food store employees tell people tha spelt is safe. When I first started this diet, the local health food store owner said spelt was safe, and then told me her family was gluten-free (as a personal choice) and they always ate spelt. I am so glad I had this community to come to... -
ARCHIVED Background Body Throbbing/ Heart Pounding
ptkds replied to AliB's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have the same symptoms. When I lay down at night, my heart just pounds, and I can feel my pulse throughout my body. It takes a while to calm down. My heart rate is high on a regular basis. I have yet to find the answer. Celiac mommy, could it still be some heart defect even if an EKG and Echo come out normal?? I haven't done the halter thing. I feel... -
My dd#3 is about to turn 3. She is in speech therapy through ECI (Early Childhood Intervention). When she turns 3, she has to start in the public school system to continue speech therapy. They want me to put her into head start in the fall so she can be around other kids her age because that would help her the most. So I finally got to talk to the Head Start...

Yes, it could be from the glucose syrup. Here in the US, it comes from wheat in the Cadbury eggs. It "might" be the lactose, but probably more likely the gluten. It is also very normal to have a stronger reaction to gluten after you have been off of it for a while. It's like your body goes haywire because there is gluten where there hasn't been for a long...

ARCHIVED Help With Newly Adopted Baby?
ptkds replied to Alexander's Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Is the rice cereal also a specialty that has no gluten? Regular rice crispies have malt in them, which comes from barley. Some ppl also react to some rice cakes, especially the quaker brand. Check the fillers in the meat. Cross contamination from others eating gluten in the house can also be a factor. Toddlers that age can pick up stray food really fast!... -

I eat hersheys all the time, and I haven't gotten sick from them once (at least that I know of!) What is their "natural flavors" policy? -
Let me stress again. You NEED to find a different dentist. You wouldn't accept the cost of one auto repair shop would you??? Just go to a different dentist and find out how much he would charge. You can get your old x-rays from your old dentist. They have to release those to you. You may have to return them, but you can still show the new dentist and not...

You need to turn tale and RUN from that dentist! He is scamming you. Root canals only cost about $400-$800. If you have a dental school in your area (even if it is 2-3 hours away) it would be worth it to go there. The costs are about 1/3 of a normal dentist, and they usually have all the newest equipment. Google the procedures you need with the word...

ARCHIVED Any One Tried These?
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was browsing our local HEB the other day, and came across a new product. They are called Baked Rice Krisps by Mr. Krispers, and they are amazing! It states on the front that they are gluten-free!! Here is the website: Open Original Shared Link. They taste like a cross between a regualr potato chip and a cracker. They go great w/ cheese, too. I LOVE the... -
ARCHIVED Stressed To The Max And Now A Limping Toddler
ptkds replied to mayakeller's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It could be from the Celiac, but you shouldn't blame every new symptom on Celiac Disease. Other things can cause leg/joint pain. You should really get him checked out by his pedi ASAP. Make sure they do bloodwork (CBC, etc) to check for anemia or other levels that may be off. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Please Help
ptkds replied to cgilsing's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Has he been tested for Cystic Fibrosis? My dd's pedi GI ran that test because diarrhea can be a symptom of it. Just keep exploring it, and don't let a dr tell you that your child is ok. Follow your instincts. -
ARCHIVED Concerned Father Needs Your Help.
ptkds replied to ble123's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You may need to re-check all the ingredients of things in your house again. Make sure her lotions, toothpaste, and anything she touches is safe. If she is in daycare or preschool, make sure they are sticking to her diet and she isn't sharing with any other kids. Make sure they aren't using Playdoh in her class. Go over EVERYTHING she has contact with. Don... -
I don't know what could be wrong, but if you find out let us know! I also have an elevated heart rate. When I lay down, my heart just pounds and I can feel my pulse throughout my head, neck, chest, and arms. It drives me nuts. I have also had some tests run w/ no diagnosis. All they have done to me is an EKG and and Echo. I also have itcy skin, but mine is...

ARCHIVED Do Eye Problems Go Along With Celiac?
ptkds replied to JulesH's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow, this really caught my attention! About a month ago, I had blurry vision one day, so I immedietly went to see my eye dr. She discovered that the vessels in the back of my right eye were very small, and my left eye was fine. She told me it looked systemic and I needed to see my regular dr. So I did and got an MRI which turned out normal. Last week,... -
I was mixing bread the other day and the bowl popped off in the back. The beater got stuck and stopped. NOw it isn't working right. And of course the warranty had expired. No one in my area fixes them, and the company will take at least 3 wks to get it back to me. Plus, we are of course broke (as usual) and we can't afford to send it into the company and...

With as sick as I get, I wouldn't just "eat it and deal w/ the consequences". I will never eat gluten intentionally. If it is an accident, that is a different story. Just explain to your friend that you really can't be sick in the next few days, and you would rather be safe than sorry.
-
I have been sick for the last couple of days from what a think is gluten. I am not so sure now. I have had HORRIBLE, watery diarrhea (it is so bad that I am sore in that area ). But the worst symptom is I keep getting these horrible pains in my upper abdomen. They feel like really horrible cramps. They come and go, and I am usually doubled over in pain when...
