I knew this girl since we were teenagers. When she was 8, she had a cancerous brain tumor. She beat the cancer, but she never grew again. So she was the size of an 8 yr old. My dh grew up w/ her family. We found out yesterday that she died in a car accident over the weekend. I don't know much, but from what I have heard, the accident wasn't very bad, but...

ARCHIVED Where Do People Buy Their gluten-free Flours From?
ptkds replied to chlobo's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I buy some flours (rice, sweet (glutinous)rice flour, potato starch, tapioca starch and noodles) at Asian stores. The rest I buy from Barryfarm.com (potato flour, any specialty flours I need that they may have). I may buy from somwhere else if I can't find it at one of these places or if I am in a hurry. I have found a new site called honeyvillegrain... -
ARCHIVED Any Of These Items Gluten-free?
ptkds replied to NoGluGirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From what I have read, GV brand labels products gluten-free only IF: they are made w/ ingredients that are gluten-free, or they are made in a plant that is gluten-free. So, if the ingredients seem to be gluten-free, it could be CC during production. McCormicks and Adams are both gluten-free. I don't know if you can get Adams where you are at, but they will... -
ARCHIVED Ranking For 'preventable' Deaths
ptkds replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Somehow, that doesn't suprise me!! With our lack of health insurance made accesible to everyone, to dr.s avoiding the real causes of health complaints, this is to be expected. -
ARCHIVED Is There Such A Thing As Gluten Free Playdough?
ptkds replied to chlobo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED Raynaud's Phenomenon
ptkds replied to Joyous's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I don't know if this has already been brought up because my toddlers are bugging me and I couldn't read all the replies. Last night, I watched a Medical Mysterys show and this lady developed Reynauds, among other symptoms. They discovered she had Sclerodema (sp?). It was pretty interesting. I wondered is she could be helped w/ a gluten-free diet since... -
ARCHIVED The Cheese From Kraft Mac & Cheese
ptkds replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have this: Open Original Shared Link It is the same stuff from Kraft, but you don't run the risk of CC by opening one of those packets that sits inside a box of gluten. I bought some a few months ago, and I am not even half way through it! -
ARCHIVED 9 Mo. Old Daughter--desperate For Help
ptkds replied to mom2stelly's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
That sounds like my youngest dd! But I didn't breastfeed her and she was on hypoallergenic formula by about 2-3 months old. She would just cry, she had bloody stools, she spit up all the time, etc. In the first 1-2 weeks, I did give her Breastmilk that I pumped. She seemed more uncomfortable after having my BM than the formula ( I don't make enouch BM for... -
It will get better! My dd is 7 and she has been gluten-free for 1 year. The other day, she told me that regular gluteny pizza looked disgusting to her! I still drool over it! She has learned that when she has gluten, she hates the way she feels. So gluten filled foods aren't apealing to her anymore. But at first, it was hard. Both of my older dd's have...

I LOVE these cookies: Open Original Shared Link They are the best, by far! I didn't like any other store-bought cookes, but some ppl do.

ARCHIVED Any History Of Duodenal Or Peptic Ulcers?
ptkds replied to Molecular Dude's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
When my dd was 14 months old, she had an endoscopy done and the GI found some ulcers in her stomach. He said they were most likely from gluten, even though her celiac tests were negative. Also, her H. pylori bacteria (the bacteria that can cause ulcers) test was negative. So, yes, I believe that ulcers can be caused by gluten if you are a celiac or gluten... -
ARCHIVED Help -- My Bread Rises And Then Falls
ptkds replied to bogglefan's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I kept having the same exact problem. I was using a different recipe, though. But one day I was out of butter and used margarine instead. It was the best shaped loaf I had ever made! So now I don't use butter for my bread anymore. It sounds weird, but it worked for me. Also, make sure it doesn't rise too long. Try not letting it rise so much next time. Like... -
ARCHIVED Wow, My Husband Is Gluten Intolerant Too!
ptkds replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease

ARCHIVED My Dr Thinks Im Crazy?
ptkds replied to horsefarmer4's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
GET A NEW GI DR!!!! Most people on here have neuro symptoms. My 7 yr old dd can't control her emotions at all when she is glutened. She just cries at the drop of a hat and can't make herself stop. Brain fog is VERY common in Celiacs. You already have your answer: A gluten-free diet makes you feel better. Get back on the diet and stay on it for life... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Taken Provera For "female Issues"?
ptkds replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have taken Provera before without any major side effects. Your body may need the jump start just to get your cycle back. Once you have 1 period, you may start getting it regularly again since you have healed some. -
LOL! I know what you mean. We had a big dinner at my Aunts on Christmas Eve. We had our own safe food, but there was lots of gluten food. My aunt made my favorite rolls from pre- gluten-free days, and she burned them! I just smiled a little because I felt better knowing I wouldn't be missing anything!

Have a happy holiday everyone! Unfortunately, my 2 yr old has already been glutened. Her cousin shared a Nutty bar with her. She just got over being glutened last weekend after she ate a little bit of an oreo cookie. Anyways, I hope everyone has a great Christmas!!

ARCHIVED Brand Of Stand Mixer Yielding Successful gluten-free Reults
ptkds replied to ackdavis's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't know if you are using a dough hook, but I have read that you shouldn't use them with gluten-free breads. I just use the regular paddle beater for all my cooking. -

ARCHIVED Need Replacement For Red Hot Candies
ptkds replied to gdobson's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
How about some red jelly beans? Or you can use some colored frosting. I don't know what Red #40 is in, but you can look around. Good luck! -
ARCHIVED Cinnamon Rolls
ptkds replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use Bette Hagmans basic gluten-free mix. It is: 2 parts rice flour, 2/3 part potato starch, 1/3 part tapioca starch (6 cups rice flour, 2 cups potato starch, 1 cup tapioca starch). I only use Asian rice flour I use this mix for most of my cooking since I cook so much and I can't afford the premade mixes! ptkds -

ARCHIVED Cinnamon Rolls
ptkds replied to blondebombshell's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have a wonderful recipe. It is a bit time-consuming because it has to sit in the fridge over night. But the results are GREAT. Let me know if you want it, and I can post it on here. ptkds -
ARCHIVED Laws Regarding Dog Neglect
ptkds replied to Glutenfreefamily's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
That is definetly neglect. Just call your local animal shelter and tell them. It will be anonymous. If you can't find a local animal shelter, call your police department (not 911, though unless the puppy is in really bad shape) and they can tell you who to call. That is so sad when someone gets an animal that they can't or won't take care of.
