ARCHIVED So Many Problems, Yet No Doctor Will Listen!
ptkds replied to ptkds's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for all of your ideas! I have been checked for anemia, but I assume it was only the traditional test. It came back normal. My B12 was just checked and it was low normal, so I have added that vitamin to my daily meds. I do know that my sed rate is a little bit higher each time it is checked, but the rheumatologist just told me that I "will never... -
ARCHIVED So Many Problems, Yet No Doctor Will Listen!
ptkds posted a topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Ok, so I haven't been on here in a while. I am not sure if this it really the right place, but I just need somewhere to vent. I have been having some heart/breathing problems lately. My heart rate jumps up for no reason at times, and that has been going on for about 3 years. I have had a few tests done, and they are all normal. But the cardiologist did... -
My youngest dd's have this problem. But I don't think it is related to Celiac. They have both been gluten-free for about 2 years and they have had this problem all their lives. But they are only 2 and 3 yrs old. their pedi won't run any tests because she says there is nothing that can be done about it anyway.

ARCHIVED Will A New Pediatricain Diagnosis By Diet Alone
ptkds replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Get a letter from your current pedi before you move. It won't matter to the school that the dr isn't in the town u live in. Make sure they make the letter a part of his permanent record. -

ptkds replied to LDJofDenver's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Here is the actual letter. I got it from my Celiac support group. Note that Pace and Prego are no longer gluten-free. And my family loves Prego speghetti sauce! Dear Gluten-Free Friends & Family, Today we received many emails regarding the recent Product Alerts concerning Campbell's brands; Pace, Prego and Swanson. We would like to confirm... -

ARCHIVED Should I Find A Doctor Specializing In Celiac?
ptkds replied to NYCCeliacMom's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am much more than 30 lbs overweight, and I was diagnosed with Celiac. It definetly happens, and it may be more common than anyone thinks. Now if only I could actually get the weight off, I would be happy! -
ARCHIVED Anyone Out There From Austin, Tx Area?
ptkds replied to wiyana's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I live about 1-1/2 hrs away, towards Houston. So not too far away! If any of you have any Celiac daughters, my dd would LOVE to meet her! She is 8 and feels like she is the only Celiac kid in the world! -
A few months ago, I ordered a K-Tec Grain Mill from Walton Feed. I finally got it today and tried it out. It works GREAT!!! I put it on the finest setting and poured some rice in there, and the flour was just as fine as the Asian rice flourf!! I am so excited. I won't have to buy my flours from the Asian store and worry about CC anymore! So if anyone is...

Ok, I just have to vent somewhere, and you guys are great listeners! Over 3 weeks ago, my 11 yr old dd hurt her wrist. I took her in to our doctors office where we saw a PA. They did a couple of xrays and said it was sprained. So we go get a special brace and try to move on. My dd keeps saying it hurt really bad, the brace wasn't helping, and she was crying...

ARCHIVED How Does Your Church's Children's Ministry Deal With Your Kid's Food "allergies"
ptkds replied to tgrand's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I am LDS (mormon) and our church is wonderful! They normally serve fruit, popcorn, and/or cheese. They asked me for a safe list, and they have passed it out to all the people that bring food to church. If they have a question, they call me and ask if something is safe or not. When we had our Halloween party, they made sure that EVERYTHING was safe for my... -
Did they do an MRI w/Contrast? Some things show up with contrast and can't be seen without contrast. Have they checked you for MS? Lyme Disease? You need to keep getting tested and don't give up. Don't let them tell you it is all in your head or that you are fine. Something is wrong, and the answer is out there somewhere.

ARCHIVED 16 Month Old Just Diagnosed With Gluten Intolerance
ptkds replied to beingmommy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There are blood tests to confirm Celiac or gluten intolerance. If it is Celiac, you do need to get new small appliances (toaster, hand mixer, can opener, etc.) Cleaning those things won't do any good. Replace all of your scratched plastic, wooden tools (spoons, rolling pin, cutting board, etc), cast iron (debatable!), etc. And you must check ALL of the... -
I have used the KA grain mill. It works, but it isn't very fine flour. I really didn't like it. My mom and i have purchased a K-Tec grain mill, but it hasn't come in yet. It has great reviews and I can't wait to try it. But I LOVE my Kitchen Aid mixer. I use it all the time for bread, pizza dough, and whatever else needs it. I have the Pro 600. IMO...

ARCHIVED Clubbing Of Toenails?
ptkds replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to give yall a little update. I took dd to the pedi on Friday. She gave me the " this is normal, my kids have had it, and it is just her age" line. She did do a CBC since she has bleeding disorders. She said everything was ok, just looked like she probably has a virus (even though my dd hasn't been sick like that in quite a while) and she was... -
ARCHIVED How You Found Out Your Child Had Celiac
ptkds replied to kimis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My 1st dd that was diagnosed constantly had diarrhea (even after 2 bananas a day!) and a "diaper rash" that wouldn't go away with any meds. She was also pretty bloated. I took her off dairy thinking that was the problem, but it didn't help. When I was looking up lactose intolerance, Celiac kept popping up, so I asked her pedi about it and she agreed to test... -
Ok, I need some help or advice. My 3 yr old dd has been gluten-free for 2 yrs now since she was diagnosed at only 16 months old. She also has a heart murmur and 2 seperate bleeding disorders (von Willebrands and Factor VII defeciency). Her fingernails have looked kind of funny for quite a while now. They are kind of bumpy and there is a white stripe across...

ARCHIVED What Happened To "made By Mona's"?
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought some products from "Made by Mona" about a year ago. I recently tried the mix for the first time, and I loved it. But when I went to order some more, I couldn't finad a place to order any more. Anyone know what happened? They made a wonderful biscuit mix, and I want some more! -
I just found out a few days ago that my daughters class is going on a field trip, and they will be eating lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. I can't find any info on thier website about them, and I haven't gotten a reply yet from an email I sent to them. Has anyone been there? Is there anything safe for a picky 7 yr old? She won't eat salads. Thanks!
-
Yep, I saw it too! I even paused it to make sure. But then I noticed the regular pizza's right next to the waffles! I guess that is a "mixed" home! You definetly wouldn't see that in my freezer!

ARCHIVED Social Security Benefits For Children With Celiac?
ptkds replied to katdw's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
So has your husband been tested for Celiac? Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder, and so is Celiac. They often go together in people. If your husband goes gluten-free, some if his problems may get better. I'm no help with the diability. I do know that you cannot get an increase in Food Stamps because of it, at least in Tx. I already tried that since... -
ARCHIVED Krogers Mislabeled Ice Cream- Warning
ptkds posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
i got this from someone in the support group and I thought I would pass it along: "I bought Kroger Deluxe Butter Zinger ice cream b/c it was labeled gluten free. After we had already tried it, I read the ingredients and found they included malt. I called Kroger and they said it was mislabeled and was NOT gluten free. They returned my money plus some...
