WOW, you got more nerve than me! No way could I do that or be that tempted. Today I thought twice about a cigar I found on my desk from a friend having a baby. Looked it and then poked a hole in and dumped it in the trash covered it with all the junk I could find. Now I just need to get rid of the pipe tobacco sitting 10 feet from me!!

Yeah it's not the fear of dying but the fear of living in misery with emphysema or something else thats helped me to QUIT. Breaking my rib from coughing from pneumonia that everyone thought was from smoking ...I never want to deal with the pain again.... Wish my folks had quit when I was young and impressionable instead of when I had my own kids. --

DOing Ag research I dont travel as much as when I was a news photographer going to places where everyone smoked all the time! Your right, too bad we have to be so miserable before we can wake up and be better -- I can really understand now why people become anti-smoking zealots. I had only quit once before when I was in the hospital for 2 months in Japan...

I'm supposed to be traveling now too. Was supposed to be gone in India for 2 months and will have to leave as soon as health permits. My wife is really fearful that I'll start again once I"m alone and on the road. I told her NO WAY -- I will never forget the pain of coughing so hard (from pneumonia) that I broke a rib. It may not been from smoking but geeze...

Never had any problems at all until I woke up on january about 4 years ago at age 54. It took them 6 months to figure it out as they didnt want to do the endoscope until it became apparent that was the trouble. MIght be good to get done now. I did read somewhere on the forum that 20% get diagnosed around age 60! good luck -

ARCHIVED Glutened At Gluten Free Restaurant!
kenlove replied to ranger's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would call them too, I work with chefs all the time in Hawaii and I know they want to know when someone is not happy. It is the "O": national chain with the gluten-free menu, I'll never go back there. They've hit strike 3 and then some... ken -

Thanks Ranger only been a this a week, at least with the machine to check the glucose. My numbers run from 147 to 298 and bounce around all day regardless if I eat or not. I hate the meds too and looking into all sorts of alternatives. Its great things keep getting better for you. MY case was somewhat opposite in terms of weight. After going gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Toasted Millet Pilaf
kenlove replied to sickchick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Suspect Margy is handling things better than I am. She broke both sides of her ankle early in the year so I had to wait on her -- all in all I prefer that than to have to be waited on! Do have to take insulin pills now -- they are still playing with types and mg. as well as once or twice a day. Just cant find the balance so the other symptoms go away... -

kenlove replied to sickchick's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Not really -- its only been 2 weeks and i'm still unable to get myself balanced to where I can stop passing out and have at least a little energy to accomplish something. Been limiting myself to steamed veggies dipped in mustards. ( really is yummy) and soups I make. no carbs at all. i am looking forward to trying new things once I can get beyond this current... -

kenlove replied to JustAGirl79's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
This is really what I'll have to start doing, I seldom eat after dinner and if too many carbs, usually fall asleep. Its pretty obvious i have to watch things much more closely. In terms of snacks etc. the nuts don't bother you? Guess it will just take some time to get in the swing of things. Do you find some cards affect your levels differently especially... -

Peter and Missy's mom, Maybe you can offer some helpful hints. Was diagnosed with diabetes (T2) 2 weeks ago. I've got to head out shortly to go pick up my glucose monitor and so on and they do have me on something called Glipizide. Obviously... -

I'm cold just thinking about those temps... been perfect here for awhile. Glad you could find the millet. See if you can find the botanic name for the type you bought. the 3 types in japan all have different botanic names yet all translate to millet. I'll be looking forward to the recipes too. In the veggie broth I stuck some beets. After 4 hours I... -

Was diagnosed with celiac about 4 years ago. Diabetes to the point where I have to take meds just 4 weeks ago and i'm still adjusting. The only celiac in the family although mothers father had diabetes for a long time so I figured it was in the genes. ken -
A little bit, sometimes like a cross between panko and orzo! Open Original Shared Link is uncooked poha if I can gt healthy enough to get to india in a week or two I'll send this back too although we get it in chicago on Devon st known there as Ghandi Marg INstead of panko I've been using dried kabocha and dried purple sweet potato flakes...

When I first saw poha I thought of our fruit (cape gooseberry) in Hawaii and forgot abbout the Indian rice flakes. Been awhile since I used them but used to make dosas which got turned into a roll-up of sorts. I'm off of rice for awhile but I remember it as being fun to play with -- also used it as tempura covering. have fun playing Ken

kenlove replied to sickchick's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Thanks -- seems to be a constant battle these days. I did try one of the millet's last night. kibi in Japanese. No problem some far. I think some of my bloating might be from the yeast too. Really should stop it. have farmers market soup base in the crock pot now. Bought 1 type of veggie from each of the vendors, cut it up and threw in the spices...
