  1. Hi, I've not had any trouble with the DM type of tussin or robatussin. I think like some vitamins they change formulas from time to time so I always check the label. ken
  2. The only way plain unflavored coffee could possibly have gluten in it would be if the beans were roasted in a machine that had roasted coffee where flavoring was added and that flavoring contained some gluten. It would only be from cross contamination. This too would be highly unlikely and large companies who roast coffee have different machines since the...
  3. It might depend on where your having the wedding. The first thing would be to talk to the pastry chef if its at hotel. Many of them are aware of celiac and what we can and cant do. It also depends on how high end you want to go. I would write to Wanda Adams the food editor of the honolulu advertiser. I'm sure she would help you find someone. She did a...
  4. Thanks for the compliment.

I see you were trained as a chef in Japan. Do you know how to make Sushi?

  5. Mochiko is another rice flour thats fairly common, especially in oriental markets. It's made from a variety of sweet rice. I'm pretty sensitive and never had problems with it. Ken
  6. Sure is a lot of cut and paste on the computer, not to mention the first 100 dots! It will be nice to have some worldwide standards although I'll still be paranoid about any gluten. Happy Birthday too! Ken
  7. HI, Open Original Shared Link is a great source of information, books and so on for raw diets. They have a online magazine called Vibrance which is good too. I usually write about fruit for them. Like Julie, when I got diagnosed with celiac I can't handle the salads I used to have and started eating some meat for the first time in 30 years. After 4 years...
  8. We do a lot of dehydrated fruit for farmers market so I wanted a bigger machine than the 2 excaliburs we had and burned out. Spent the money on Open Original Shared Link and will never go back. Big stainless machine that saves a lot of time and energy cost over the other 2. Ken
  9. Got the stuff and with luck I'll try your recipe tonight since we have visitors over.I never like the mixes either take care ken
  10. Good Luck! Hope you can figure it out!

    ARCHIVED Sushi

In addition to what missy's mom said, you should ask about the wasabi. Often powdered wasabi contains wheat starch. Do you bring your own shoyu?
  12. Recently received a note from celiac friends who stayed at a BB in Kona, Luana Inn (www.luanainn.com). They told me the owners Erin and Ken did a wonderful job of baking gluten-free breads and preparing breakfasts with no gluten or cross contamination. I drive by this inn almost daily and it looks like a beautiful place. Ken
  13. I dont recall having had any symptoms and no one in my family had celiac or stomach troubles. I woke up one January morning at age 53 and just got sick. It took 6 months for them to figure out it was celiac. Went gluten free and have not had problems in the last 4 years. I don't think it was stress or anything that triggered it, it just happened all at once...
  14. Hi, My dizzy spells come from too many carbs. Although I eat mostly fruit I need the energy and will sometimes have to much rice or gluten-free breads and on occasion have passed out or just keeled over. Was told it was from rapid changes in blood sugar levels from the carbs. Good luck Ken
  15. There have been a number of gluten-free weddings on the Big Island of Hawaii. One of the forum members here got married a few years ago too. At the Fairmont the chef James Babian ( Now at the Four Seasons here) took care of a gluten-free wedding party of 40. Most chefs at resort hotels are aware of celiac but the ones here go out of their way. I have had...
  16. We like Tom Sawyer Flour Open Original Shared Link really a great product from a dedicated facility. Not grains but for breads we think its the best ken
  17. Thanks a bunch! Will check Rose's for sure! ken
  18. Hi Lobita Can you pass on the address of Da Luciano's? I Only get there once a year but it would be nice to eat someplace besides Bone FIsh or my mothers house! thanks ken
  19. I have to agree with the others, you need a doctor who has a much better understanding of celiac. >>She said since i dont feel pain from eating bread, i can continue eating gluten unless i start feeling pain. << You don't feel pain from smoking but still can wake up one day with lung cancer. Everytime you eat something with gluten your destroying...
  20. Very interesting, I know one of the guys in the video who comes to visit here. Nver heard about this before but its always been kind of common sense to think positive about things. I just need to be more positive about loosing weight <G> I hope you can be more positive about making a great GL phylo! take care
  21. GUess you just need t move here and grow your own! Its illegal for us to send fruit out of he state, with few exceptions like pineapple and papaya. Mostly because of Calif politics. If you were able to get some of our oranges and avocados, you would never buy the factory produced stuff again! I would not doubt it about the oranges have gluten in the sprayed...
  22. Hi Lisa, I don't know but I always cut the stickers off. Not so much because of the glue (ten) but becasue I hate the things!<G> Sicne I grow a lot of fruit I seldom buy apples -- never oranges while there re trees full of them outside etc. I only use stickers on avocados & bananas we sell. No sprays. I dont know what they spray on oranges in...
  23. Its true in some places but not always. Much of the su used now is distilled which is ok for celiacs. Often the vinegars sold as health drinks are not safe although some are like kuro niniku su, black garlic vinegar. You always have to be careful even with things that seem harmless like onigiri at Family Mart. Most of them contain wheat starch or some form...
  24. thanks -- good to know!
