ARCHIVED Sweet & Sour Sauce
kenlove replied to Wakeboarder's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You could also try to make your own, not so hard. Get a jar of gluten-free jelly that you like and add vinegar. you can alter the taste with more sugar and vinegar or even chop up a pineapple in it. If you have a juicer, you can juice your own pineapple, add vinegar and sugar and thinken with corn or potato starch. it's worth the time to get a much better... -
ARCHIVED Ramen?
kenlove replied to burnonedown's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All the instant ramen packages are wheat based and the seasonings usually contain MSG and a host of other chemicals that may contain wheat derivatives. RiceGuy gave you some good alternatives. Hard to find outside of Japan but if you have a Japanese store try to find juwari soba which is 100% buckwheat and ok. Most of the soba noodles sold outside of Japan... -
It was a fun movie and your folks are right about the message. I've now become kung fu grandpa since my belly is about the same as the giant pandas

Thanks, good to know -- I need to stay away from ice cream for awhile l-- not because dairy as much as weight. It will be 2 years of being gluten-free next week. kenlove replied to Fiddle-Faddle's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Crying icon would be good and maybe one icon hitting another with a hammer and caption that says "it feels so good when you stop", Been trying to get my kids to get tested for the past 2 years. Even in their 30s they dont want to face that they are getting older and doing something now would save a lot of problems when older. One of the expressions... -
Thanks Pete, I'll have to give it a try again one of these days. Since much of my work revolves around the fresh produce industry the regulations are much different. We keep pushing for laws in the US that would require labeling of country of origin, GMO and irradiation. None of it is required now. Thanks again Ken

Hi, So just hypothetically, if a major food producer bought a ton of maltodextrin from China and used it to process foods in Texas which were then sold in the US with only maltodextrin listed and no wheat or other allergens listed, would it be legal by current laws? I know it is supposed to be listed but is that limited to maltodextrin produced and used...

I know that before I was diagnosed with celiac I lost all the testosterone in my body as well as some other hormones that I don't recall the names of. Even before diagnoses they gave me a number of injections and patches to use which helped a lot with general energy levels as well as other things. being 55 at that time I was not thinking of having more kids...

ARCHIVED Tomatillos?
kenlove replied to sickchick's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You know I made a mistake, tree tomatoes are Solanaceae in a sense. The Latin is Cyphomandra betacea Sendt. but originally they were Solanum betaceum but it was decided by whoever decides these things that they didnt have the same characteristics as other solanums so the name was changed. It could depend on how sensitive you are. I do know its a... -

ARCHIVED Cross Contamination
kenlove replied to Netzel's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
That really says it all. I cant buy wine at costco without getting sick since the section is next to the bakery and there is a lot of flour in the air. If I wear a mask its ok. Other have problems with many Amy's products but I never have with one exception. CC is something we have to be on guard about always. ken -
ARCHIVED Major Sleep Disorders And Celiac
kenlove replied to citykatmm's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Could be dairy too but I think gluten-free is a good place to start. For me it was a major change. I'll still get night sweats if I have cheese or ice cream after 4pm or so. ken -

You'll be amazed at how much better you feel going totally gluten free. I had many sleep problems too, especially the sweats and leg problems only they first treated me for parkinsons instead of RLS. Good luck! -

kenlove replied to sansglutengrl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've never had problems with the green or red and consider myself very sensitive. Hope you dont have trouble with it. -
Now this sounds really great! Just picked first of the season lychee today. The canned ones just cant compare to fresh. I'm sure I'll make this in the next week or so using mac nuts instead of hazelnuts or almonds. Had to buy 50 pounds of diced macadamia nuts for a project where I was making fig sushi. Just processed very ripe figs flattened into...
