  1. Hi Maggiemom, My son had reflux, dx at 6 weeks, for two years. He would do many of the same things that your dd is doing. As soon as we put him down he would start screaming. He had constant diaper rash, many foul acidic bms everyday, and was just generally cranky and crying ALL the time if he wasn't held. Reflux babies will often over eat as well as...
  2. I am sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I hope your son is feeling better soon. Quick question... was he gluten free when the Dr. ran the blood work? If so you may have gotten a false negative. Good luck.
  3. It will get better. There will always be new information out there but once you get the main stuff down the new stuff won't be quite so overwhelming and it will seem like second nature. You will find your brands that you use and you will be able to shop easily once again. I am a year into it and still sometimes I get a shocker or have a bunch of questions...
  4. Also, as suggested to me here, make a safe medication list and have those meds on hand. Many common OTC meds have gluten in them. Speak with your pharmacist about prescriptions as well as many use gluten based starches as fillers. FYI to those of you who have dairy issues and are taking Prevacid for reflux, last I checked when my son was on it the SoluTabs...
  5. My daughter is only 5 so we still use Johnson's Buddies however I recently read here that Paul Mitchell is gluten-free as well as Dove shampoo and conditioner. I am sure that there are others. Crest toothpaste for Kids is Gluten free. Oral B is not. Make sure that your cutting boards are new, if they are wood or plastic there could be gluten built up...
  6. There is a wonderful book called Kids with Celiac Disease, A Family Guide to Raising Happy Healthy Gluten Free Children by Dana Korn. This book really helped me when my DD was diagnosed a year ago. It will take you through the disease step by step and help you learn how to shop, cope and help your daughter cope as well. It takes a little of the "overwhelming...
  7. it has her peanut allergy on it as well!
  8. I got one for my daughter who is only celiac from Laurenshope.com. Reason being we travel quite a bit by car and plane. If we should ever get separated My number is on the back along with her name and wheat intolerance/gluten free diet. Just incase some helpful employee or grandma wants to give her a cookie. She will probably be to upset to remember to...
  9. Hi, I had my son tested for the celiac gene when my daughter was diagnosed positive through blood work and biopsy one year ago. He would have been a little 1.5 years at that point. The test was ordered by my daughters ped gi. he tested positive for the gene and we are now dealing with green and pale yellow loose stools, terrible behavior problems...
  10. Tonight I made chicken pesto with gluten-free Penne. 1 cup fresh basil 5 tbsp parmesean cheese 3 tablespoons pinenuts 1/2 cup olive oil salt to taste put everything in a food processor and mix Boil 1 lb of your favorite gluten-free pasta. In a pan heat olive oil, slice chicken in thin strips and sear in oil until thoroughly cooked. Add in sundried...
  11. I use Tom Sawyer all purpose gluten free baking flour and an old fashion cookie cutter sugar cookie recipe. For the butter I use Fleishman's light margarine which is gluten-free, Dairy Free and Soy free. We cut out the cookies with "insert holiday here" cookie cutters and then have a ball decorating them with different color pillsbury icings and other assorted...
  12. Isn't that frustrating... I did a sleep study on July 24th and still haven't heard anything. I called my pcp and their ofice hasn't heard anything either. But don't worry the hospital that did the test was able to find the remaining balance and get the bill out to me ASAP!
  13. 1. How often does your child get glutened? 2. How long do symptoms usually last? 3. Can you always identify where the gluten came from? 4. How do you help them through a glutening? 5. How long has your child been gluten-free? 1. I also thought we were being really good, however then I received the results of her 1 year blood test. I found out...
  14. Oh I think this is the best answer! I don't have celiacs but do have fibromyalgia and there are things that I eat the make me feel worse than others. Sometimes it is hard to resist but I always regret the choice after I made it. For the gluten-free diet.... for a treat try Pamela's fudge brownie mix with chocolate chunks. Use some chocolate fudge icing...
  15. Does anyone else deal with guilt after accidentally glutening a loved one? If so how do you come to terms with it?
  16. My little lady started K this week. Her teacher is wonderful. She spent an hour on the phone with me from her home asking questions and learning all she could about Celiac and Katharine. She requested I bring in material for her to read and did some research at home as well. She has some allergies and there for understands the whole idea of CC. She has...
  17. We got the "goofy juice" as well. Katharine was already asleep when they gave her the needle and when they put in the IV. She had know idea what happened. One minute I was there holding her, the next nurses were giving her popsicles (cold for the throat) and mom was back with a stuffed doggy in a green purse named Murphy. He is still one of her favorites...
  18. I was referring only to the regular Log Cabin. I am not sure about the Country Kitchen one. If you called a month ago then it is probably still gluten free as the change I found out about took place last fall.
  19. I have been reading quite a bit about rashes that appear in Celiacs over the last week. Many of them sound like the rash Katharine has on her butt. It comes and goes sometimes worse than others. Tonight there were little red bumps all over her little butt and sometimes is it accompanied but a red patch above her butt crack on her lower back upper butt...
  20. The moodiness and sensitivity sounds like Katharine before she went gluten-free. I tried changing the way I handled her as well but to no avail. Her stools were white, but we large instead of floating and we had the blood in the stool problem. Don't try gluten-free before the tests as it will give you a false negative. There has to be gluten in her body...
  21. Katharine just turned 5 in August and she adapted really well to the diet. Many of the pastas you can't even tell the difference. The biggest challenge for Katharine was the bread. We tried a bunch of different ones including homemade before she settled on the Kinnickinnick (I can never remember how to spell that!) brand that she eats now. (She seems...
  22. Hi everyone, I picked up Katharine's test results today from the start of things. In June of 06 she had a IGA of 28 In Sept of 06 we went to a GI and it had spiked to 100 In Sept of 07 we are to 80.1 In the the tests results it keeps saying "Titer to follow" On 9/5/06 they collected an Endomysial Antibody IgA, Titer (EMA TTR) Next to the name...
  23. Eating Gluten Free with Emily is a great childrens book. The illustrations are simple and colorful and it explains Celiacs on a childs level without a lot of medical jargen. I read this book to Katharine when she first was diagnosed and it helped her out a lot. We talked about the similarities between her and Emily and talked about what makes Katharine...
  24. Hi Sarah, Most major supermarkets and drugstores carry Gummi Vites. I get mine at Walgreens. It is a large bottle (I think around 120) for $10. I know that CVS and Rite Aid carry them as well. Sam's Club carries them and I am fairly certain that Wal-Mart carries them as well. They say gluten free on the side label. The bottle is clear with a white...
  25. Hi again everyone, As promised here is what I found out today. Many of these you guys probably already know, but if there is just one that you didn't this was worth typing! NOT GLUTEN FREE Lactaid: Company will not commit to gluten free, states "There are no detectable amounts of gluten in our products" Arm & Hammer Laundry Detergents...
