  1. Thanks for your replies and suggestions, everyone! We'll see how it all works out...
  2. Rant all you want. Secretly I'm glad when people do. I often suppress stuff like that - because heaven forbid I ever show I'm upset on the outside, it might be me purposefully making things "worse" than they are, or whatever some around me would believe. So when I see others expressing their anger/upset/unhappiness about things that I have, I feel more...
  3. All right, Thanksgiving is rolling around and my mom is trying to figure out how to cook that will make it work for me too. As usual, I'm feeling like a burden somewhat by making others have to do extra work, but oh well. Does anyone else have problems with Thanksgiving? How do you get around it? I'm the only one in the family that is gluten-free. ...
  4. Ooh, is this a thread where can complain about this condition? Or complain about others complaining, or others not-complaining... no but, yeah. I'm sort of in the middle about it all. It is extremely inconvenient, I think, to have this. Lots of stuff I took for granted before are now gone. (Just going out to eat real fast - no, not fast food, but just...
  5. You've gotten good responses here, but I just also want to add - good luck with it all. It is a challenge, but thankfully, from what I understand - things are a lot better about it nowadays than from even not so long ago. I am noticing more and more signs of "gluten-free" awareness, even since when I started the diet in January. Maybe one day all stores...
  6. Yo ho ho! For sure, that's the same as me. I'd been having digestive pain/issues for about as long as I can remember...worsening more rapidly in the last 6 or so years. Doctors tried zelenorm, said I had IBS, etc. I had barium tests, ovary sonograms, blood tests, and other fun stuff. I tested NEGATIVE "as far as we can tell" (so said the report) for Celiac...
  7. Thanks for the encouragement, Tritty and mouse! It was weird about my aunt being diagnosed. To our knowledge, before all this, "no one" had Celiac in our family. (But it's not like they were ever tested, either.) I know my mom's aunt has a daughter with Crohn's...but that's it. But then recently my doctor thought my aunt needed to be tested, and they found...
  8. Hello again. Just as a quick recap (you can skip this if you want to get to the point ) ...Since as far back as I can remember, I've had stomach annoyances. Then, appendix out in 5th grade. Along with that, the discovery of hypothyroidism/Hashimoto's. Then...around 10th grade (uh...15 years old) it all took a turn for the worse. I had one of those "attacks...
  9. Oh, dang, didn't even think of that! My mom researched and found that wine was good enough to take (w/o the host)...but I didn't even think of that part, when he breaks the piece into the wine. And jayhawkmom (I think I got the SN right)...good luck in CCD teaching the kids about communion even though you can't take it. That will be awkward. ...
  10. Thanks for the suggestions so far... *takes mental note of what everyone said* Could be something to the dairy/cheese thing, I think!
  11. Thanks for the info. I think the pasta I've had a few times is brown rice but...yeah. I suppose it could be dairy, too. I ate that beforehand but...I don't know. I'll try to cut down on that a little and see if it makes a difference. And yes, I agree about the IBS thing. I used to post on a board for that, and maybe 20% had similar symptoms to me...
  12. lol yeah...thanks. I've posted on this board only 2 times or so, so...I wasn't quite sure of the procedure. Nor the pinning thing, until I saw it explained in this section a few threads down (duh.) So, apparently, I WAS missing something. Thanks for the info and pinning though!!
  13. oh...maybe it's not "pinned" yet or whateve...suppose I just need to be patient.
  14. about 5 minutes ago I posted a post under the 'coping with' section. I see, on the main forum page, my post under the whole 'most recent post' thing. But when I click into the Coping With section, my post/thread is no where to be seen. Is it just going to take a while to show up? Or...what's going on? If it appears later, I'll just um...edit this one...
  15. Hmm. Something tells me this has probably come up before, but I don't come on here too much. Feel free to direct me or, tell me to be quiet, if it has! lol. Anyway. Just a recap. I was not diagnosed with Celiac's or anything. I was diagnosed with IBS. But nothing worked much. (was given a medication that just made me bleed...how nice!) So in desperation...
  16. Thanks again! I was just on winter break, and my mom and I did a lot of researching about the gluten-free thing. (Books, lists, calling companies, etc ...). I gave in and started the diet January 8th...so, no turning back now! Lol. I'm ready for things to get better for me though, so. While part of me hopes this isn't it...part of it DOES hope it is, so...
  17. Hey everyone, thanks for your replies!! I'm pretty busy at the moment to give a good response, but I did read ALL of your input. So, it definetly seems like I should do it. It is worth it both health-wise and feeling-better-wise. And that I should make sure to REALLY do it when I do! It'll be hard, but I do think it's worth it. And, like one pointed...
  18. Hmm...no lol, I haven't. If that was the case (it being one of those), I wouldn't even know which one to randomly start with! I suppose that's the point of keeping one of those food diaries? That might be a good place to start...
  19. Hi. I've never posted before. Lurked around a little bit before, then came back today. I have ... well let's see. I guess my first and main question is, I notice that once people become gluten-free, their tolerance for ANY gluten becomes a lot worse. Meaning, a lot more susceptible to horrible random attacks if one makes a minor slip-up, worse than perhaps...
