  1. Lol, hurt puppy look, I'm a sucker for that in guys. (Not in puppies so much.) Anyway...yeah sometimes it's good to be gluten-free. I find in that, sometimes it does garner special attention. In no way do I seek or want that, but with food being such an integral part of life, it always comes up. In the past years, I've been touched by the efforts some...
  2. Nice to hear....the more options the better! Instead of the opposite. I used to like eating at Austin Grill. The last time I ate there, the menu had been drastically reduced and the two items I would always get weren't on the menu anymore. One was just simple cheese enchiladas. Not on the gluten-free menu. Yet, there was spinach-cheese enchiladas...
  3. Good point. I never thought of it that way. Even in our dreams we're traumatized by eating gluten, even though it can't hurt us. I can't think of a time in a dream where I ate gluten effortlessly/enjoyed it/had no stress about it.
  4. Someone mentioned...did you get enough to eat before/during Disneyland? That place can be a dizzying/weakening place just with so many lines and so much going on. and if you were afraid to eat anything, that'd make it worse. Maybe not though. Anyway hang in there. :/ And cream of buckwheat sounds interesting, I may have to try.
  5. Lol...only other gluten-intolerants/Celiacs would understand the horror of being in a kitchen surrounded by puffs of flour. These dream scenarios probably sound ridiculous to a non-gluten-free-person. But when you think of it...food is something we HAVE to be concerned with DAILY. So whether we like it or not, gluten and the fears that go along with being...
  6. Definitely! I've been gluten free 3 years now and I still have those dreams. It's like, in the dream, I have a momentary lapse and end up taking a bite of pizza, a little muffin...something. Often times it's only after it's in my mouth, and I have swallowed, that I'm like "Oh no what have I DONE" and then during the rest of my dreams that night, I'm anxious...
  7. All I've ever gotten fast-food wise are chocolate frosties from Wendy's and a plain baked potatoes from Arby's and Wendy's which even scared me a little (they were pre-cut and I was iffy on the butter which wasn't separately wrapped or anything). didn't get sick though. But I'm too cautious to try anything else. Well I've gotten Five Guy's fries too...
  8. You know, I missed out on all those things too! And I didn't even have a terminally ill parent nor was I forced to get a job. Just...the family dynamic...I suppose was such that, I don't know. I also didn't get a chance to experience all those things in high school (and some still even now ). I find it weird that the person you were responding to here...
  9. Right. Whole wheat bread has no wheat. Sorry but that's just ignorance.
  10. Oh wow. That sucks about the Panera incident. They DO allegedly have some gluten-free items (like greek salad etc.) but for some reason I've been too afraid to give it a shot. Your story doesn't help. But that they actually list it as having wheat on their web site...that girl at the counter should have known better. I'm sorry that it happened. ...
  11. What about Frosted Mini-Wheats? I ate a bowl this morning. Just kidding. Obviously the name itself gives it away as a... NO!!!
  12. Glad I could help! The prune juice endeavor didn't last long for me either. Just, keep drinking the water and have a lot of patience...your body will come around eventually...
  13. In answer to the original question. Reeetz...yes, yes and yes. Within the first 2-3 weeks of me going gluten free, I was very very constipated. I was like "what the hell?!" I felt like just a big cement block. It might have been over-doing it on the rice...I brought these brown rice cracker things and ate a lot of them at first...but then lightened...
  14. I sat here reading this thread and am just appalled/shocked at the ridiculousness of it. Forcing you to pay for something that can harm you when they are not willing to accommodate or pay for the medical bills. That's just terrible. Good job for getting them to revoke your mandate, even if you don't feel it started a revolution or anything. You still...
  15. It's okay to grieve. It is a loss, no matter what anyone says. I mean, yes you will re-adjust but it is a major change as well. I tend to be the personality type that...is somewhat against the "get over it and move on instantly" attitude...people should face reality and grieve when something sucks. Not wallow in forever...but yes, it IS a loss. For...
  16. Agreed. I have a VERY specific reaction to gluten, that I refer to as my 'gluten attack' which I had abhor and is the reason I go through all this dieting crap to avoid. After it happened so many times in college, I was able to predict the progession down to a 't'. Okay...first this is going to happen for a while, depending on how fast this can happen, it...
  17. ^ Agreed. Good luck. Some people are offended. I found, initially, most people didn't quite understand the severity of the restriction, and maybe I thought I was just being difficult. But I guess like someone said, just try to be professional and matter of fact and mention that you do have a food intolerance. Not denying her offer, but just saying...
  18. This thread is depressing. I guess I'm lucky because the only two times I've been full-blown glutened in the past 3 years were from movie theater popcorn (...I forget what company it was. But it wasn't Regal or Loewe's). And then, from a local cafe that purports to have a gluten-free kitchen etc. I ate there once, had their pizza, and was fine. I...
  19. Is it possible you have an ulcer or gastritis? Unrelated to my gluten intolerance, sometime last year I was feeling AWFUL, like I didn't want to eat anything besides gluten-free bread. I had horrendous heartburn which soon just turned into this burning kind of pain right beneath my esophagus, right above my stomach. It would gurgle and burn if I didn't...
  20. A dessicated pig thyroid? Sounds interesting. And yeah I do feel like I really need to get my thyroid checked. I should stop slacking. And so you say that synthroid made your bloodwork come back good, but you were still irritable/lethargic whatever comes with it? I am definitely those things, and I know those are common symptoms of hypothyroidism, so it...
  21. . Oh my God. You were bitten by a brown recluse?? That's like the worst thing ever. I mean, maybe not, but I've seen shows about what happens when that happens and it appears extremely awful. If I leave my shoes in the basement I always hit them and make sure no spider is lurking in it. Many times I've been paranoid, and seen a spider that I think might...
  22. I guess those gluten dreams show how much it really is on our minds, constantly. And that's like our worst fears that we deal with daily coming true. I actually had a good one, once. I was amazed. I went to some party with a bunch of people I didn't know. Some dude who was the host offered me cake. I started to refuse, because of gluten, and he assured me...
  23. Oh my God, I hate those gluten type of dreams! I have at least a few a month, I'd say. Where I put something in my mouth, only to realize with horror later that it had gluten. I've had it be pizza, mini-muffins on ice cream...it's like in the dream, for a moment I forget. And eat it. And then it's like "oh my GOD WHAT HAVE I DONE!" Recently I've had two...
  24. Thanks Becci. That one sip last night didn't affect me so I'm drinking it now. Seeing your post reassures me further. yay.
