ARCHIVED "perfect Pinch" Mccormick Spices
DownWithGluten replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
thanks everyone. I almost called earlier today but something random distracted me...maybe I should. Lol at the last post of them not having flavor anyway...then they're DEF not worth getting sick over! Thanks for the recipes -
ARCHIVED "perfect Pinch" Mccormick Spices
DownWithGluten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been fairly frustrated the past few days. Trying to eat healthier...less calories, less salt, blah blah. But of course, with that comes less flavor. So I'm trying to find stuff that is quick to make (to eat while at work for lunch), healthy, flavorful. In my quest I hit many roadblocks thanks to stupid gluten-ness. I researched the Net as much... -
ARCHIVED Did You Have A Trigger That Started Your Symptoms?
DownWithGluten replied to afreeclimber74's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can't think of a trigger that makes sense (like stress or an infection). All I know is that there is an identifiable turning point for me. Just some vacation to Canada, I got "sick" in that special way for the first time that I can remember. I was about 15. Prior to that, I had some digestive issues here and there (bloating, throwing up, some chest pain... -
ARCHIVED Started Dating - Dreading "the Talk"
DownWithGluten replied to jasonD2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I, too, agree with this. If I was interested in a guy who suddenly lost interest when I said I had a dietary restriction...that might be a red flag of what kind of person he is. Self-absorbed, etc. Undoubtedly there might be some annoyances here in there long term...but someone who cares about you would be willing to accomodate. And if they're not...ya... -
Hi all. This has probably been discussed before. I saw some threads of people having endometriosis in addition to celiac/gluten intolerance...also some suggesting there is a link. I'm beginning to wonder if I have endometriosis. Obviously I'm gluten intolerant (since i'm on this site!) and also have hashimoto's. But I've almost always had severe...

ARCHIVED I Found Something Good For Lunch !
DownWithGluten replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hmm. What I like along those lines is Simply Asia's sesame chicken soup. It's also an insta-soup thing, just open the packets and add hot water. That's my favorite ramen substitute. They're not found as easily as Thai Kitchen, though. And they are labeled "gluten free," I always check for that each time just in case it goes away one day lol. Open... -
ARCHIVED Milky Way Candy Bar
DownWithGluten replied to M&M LOVER's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Aren't dark chocolate milky ways gluten free? I thought so but have been too scared to try. The info should be available somewhere, though. I would avoid them though, personally. Regular Snicker's are gluten free, I eat them with no problem. Not the same as a milky way, but...something, anyway. -
I was skinny and got skinnier after going gluten free. I think because the amount of food available for me to eat (conveniently) was reduced drastically. No more picking up a random cookie from Au Bon Pain, or some nice yummy convenient food somewhere else. It restricts your freedom to eat a lot of the stuff you might have been used to before. The only...

ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
DownWithGluten replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
As an update...first StephanieGF thanks for your help. I did call the Levoxyl people first, who re-confirmed it is gluten free. After some discussion, she said basically what you said and what I later saw...since my dosage was raised (especially from taking expired lower dosage), it's "speeding" things up, including my digestion, to get to the right level... -
ARCHIVED Spices
DownWithGluten replied to conniebky's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
How do you know this stuff. Lol, you and someone else on the board...I think Richard or something? Always seem to have these obscure but helpful answers. (It's a compliment!) I'm like the second guy who responded...I don't assume anything and always check first. Maybe as I get more versed/knowledged I'll get braver. It'll take time, though. -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
DownWithGluten replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. I'll try calling them to see what they say, at least if it's normal for this kind of reaction with a dosage/brand switch etc, or if it'll indicate the dosage is too high - anything. It's just depressing, b/c the symptoms are reminiscent of when I was eating gluten and those feelings of helplessness are coming back. And being in pain is distracting... -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
DownWithGluten replied to DownWithGluten's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Well, a few reasons why I switched. I was diagnosed at 10 yrs and that doctor retired a long time ago. So I'd just been getting refills of the same thing w/o an endo. Then finally went to see one, and he preferred Levoxyl. Which was fine w/ me b/c I'd read some gluten people have problems with Synthroid now, even though they didn't used to. I'm not sure... -
ARCHIVED Levoxyl?
DownWithGluten posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have hashimoto's hypothyroidism. I recently started taking Levoxyl instead of Synthroid. I started taking it last Thursday. This Monday, I noticed my colon/bowels gurgle-ly and having slightly 'glutened' feelings. Not a full gluten-attack...just some cramping and aching and unsettled colon. It's been continuing for the week and tonight is getting more... -
ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?
DownWithGluten replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Um, that's pretty bad. Because who's the waiter going to believe at the end of the day - you a 'lay' person, or an almighty doctor? That was just uncalled for for that doc to undermine you like that. No, it's not like a peanut allergy in that I'll DIE and have my throat swell up if I eat gluten. But my symptoms are wretched and if I can help it, I do... -
ARCHIVED Mucinex

Yeah. Last time I took it, it was. -
ARCHIVED How Long Before Mental Health Benefits Manifest?
DownWithGluten replied to pues's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hasn't happened to me yet, sorry to say, and it's been over three years. I remember reading that I would be "singing on my way to work" and overall more lighthearted and joyous after going gluten free. But that has yet to happen! I mean...more directly...of course my quality of life has improved because I'm not hopelessly/helplessly sick every... -
I agree. Probably everyone diagnosed with 'IBS' has some more specific condition. Such as Chron's, celiac, other food intolerance, maybe even conditions we haven't discovered yet. I was diagnosed with IBS "C-D." I used to post on an IBS board, and was struck with how varying everyone's symptoms/triggers were. That's when I got a little suspicious...

ARCHIVED Struggling With Coming To Terms With How Stupid I've Been
DownWithGluten replied to williamsburg000's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hm Takala. If I'm getting what you're implying correctly...or, even if not...your post made me think of something I hadn't before. The fact that diagnosing someone with celiac does not yield in the prescribing of any medicine, since the only way to manage the disease is by diet. Meaning no pharmaceutical companies benefit from this, and don't doctors... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With Coming To Terms With How Stupid I've Been
DownWithGluten replied to williamsburg000's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That kinda sounds like me. I can think of many times as a kid that I was having some digestive angst...I'd feel the need to 'lie flat' to stop some bloating pain. Or would walk doubled over after eating certain foods...then began throwing up every few months or so (on the pasta bread dinner nights in my house...lol.) But the "gluten attacks" didn't start... -
ARCHIVED Struggling With Coming To Terms With How Stupid I've Been
DownWithGluten replied to williamsburg000's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You're not stupid. And while it sucks for your family, it probably sucks more for you to have been suffering so much. And you said 13 years? 13 years ago, nobody cared/knew about gluten. At least not like they do now...it seems to be growing in public awareness (which is convenient for me, since I've been doing it the past 3 years). And no... -
For what it's worth. I had worse anxiety within the first three months of going gluten free than I've had in my life. There were other stressful things going on at the time, too. And the anxiety wasn't about the gluten. But I can't help but wonder if the drastic diet change had some kind of an impact, hindsight.

ARCHIVED Starbucks Gluten Free
DownWithGluten replied to HannahHannah's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Crud! I used to get frappucinos all the time. I never got the 'light' version, but now I'm annoyed. Oh well. My new favorite lately has been the iced white chocolate mocha. But still. What if I want a frappuccino again, now I'm paranoid. Thanks for the heads up. -
ARCHIVED How Sensitive To Gluten Are You?
DownWithGluten replied to T.H.'s topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Haha, maybe that's the difference. I'm not one that just gets a foggy brain or stomache ache...I get what I call "gluten attacks" that I hate with a passion. So I don't want to take the risk. At the end of the day, I'm not sure how sensitive I am. Because I am afraid to risk. I do go to Chipotle and never ask them to change gloves (even if they touch... -
ARCHIVED Camping With Celiac
DownWithGluten replied to Mizzo's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I agree...make and pre-package some stuff. I camped for the first time in my life a few weeks ago. And I'm sure I was a bit obnoxious, standing over the grill with my death stare of doom if anyone went near my burger slab with the "contaminated" spatula that had touched the gluten-filled boca burgers and buns. I'd be all "omg watch watch it!" if the... -
ARCHIVED Dating A Celiac
DownWithGluten replied to CNA5400's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Aaaw, nice of you to be considerate! Same as others said. And, I'm all about being fair and am NOT about one partner unequally bowing to the other, etc. Unfortunately (for me, who is gluten intolerant, lol) being gluten intolerant requires 'special attention' and a fuss which I hate. So... it might seem unequal with you catering to her and sacrificing...
