  1. I would talk to your doctor, just to be on the safe side - it can't hurt to have the bloodwork done at least - but I will say that my nephew Bu went through a stage (when he was 4-5) where he threw up on about a daily basis. It turned out that the problem was he was eating too fast and therefore too much and when his little tummy tried to digest everything...
  2. Switch to MAC - 90% of their cosmetics are grain free. . .but always ask to see the complete list of ingredients. . . Better yet, skip the cosmetics and glory in the healthy glow of your own skin now that you are healthy. . .natural is beautiful
  3. How do you normally react to corn? 30% of celiacs will have adverse gi reactions to corn/soy/oats (in some combination, or just one). . .something your doctor usually forgets to tell you about. My celiac reactions are different depending on what grain I've been contaminated with. . .and the corn reaction is a heckuva lot like the flu. . .out both ends...
  4. I too suffer from the shakes when I get glutened. . .it starts with an overwhelming wave of unexpected depression, followed by paranoia, the hot-and-cold flashes and then it feels like my whole body starts to twitch (if I'm not wearing trousers, you can see the muscles in my leg jerk around, although my leg doesn't move). . .the first time it happened, it...
  5. I admit to being mildly irritated when someone claims to be "gluten intolerant" and then heads gaily for the buffet, only to spend the next hour moaning about how horrible she's going to feel. . .but I have no problem with people claiming the label who feel half as crappy as I do after being glutened. At the same time, I also have to admit to being angry...
  6. Hi Sandy, Yes, Kinnickinick makes yummy bagels. . .but sadly they contain corn and soy and are therefore off limits for me - I am one of those unfortunate 30% whose bodies can't tell the difference between corn and wheat. Sigh. I will continue to dream. . .
  7. I've been gluten free for six years now. There are literally thousands of foods I can eat (and grain-wise, I eat nothing but rice and potatoes as I have had serious reactions to so many other grains, I'm tired of trying). Every time I get a craving for a food I can no longer have, (my real weakness is bagels. . .mmmm real chewy boiled bagels. . .) I focus...
  8. Elaine, My good friend TwoL (nickname) had almost exactly your symptoms - she had her gall bladder out, lost tons of weight, kidney failure, liver failure, etc, etc, etc. They tested for EVERYTHING they could think of. . .including parasites, infections, gut biopsies, colonoscopies, etc until some intern suggested they run the blood work for celiac disease...
  9. Hooray! Other people with a-typical DH! Ahem. On to coping: soap makes my skin go nuts - particularly ones for sensitive skin. The only one I've ever found that "works" is a bubblebath/bodywash from the body shop called nut foaming bath - my favorite is brazil nut. The nut oils help to keep your skin hydrated, and the glycerine base is gentle on sensitive...
  10. - you can list at least ten different places where you've thrown up - you can direct your friend, by cellphone, from Splash Mountain to the nearest unoccupied toilet, though you've not been to disneyland in five years -you have ever seriously considered the question "is it worse to clean vomit or poo off the bathroom floor?" - bowel movements have...
  11. Hi Sara I get where you're coming from - and from my experience, the brain fog is usually caused by the not eating. The tricky part is motivating yourself to eat (and prepare something to eat) when you feel like crap and eating is the last thing you want to do. Remember that when you were an undiagnosed celiac, you were essentially starving, so your body...
  12. With the caveat that everyone is different, here's my story: I was diagnosed with celiac disease and DH in July 2000. By that time, I had lived with atypical presentation of acute DH all over my legs and arms (though not, thank god, on my face) for seven years - if I went out less than fully covered, throat to wrists to toes, people stared and whispered....
