  1. If I were you, I would wait. Keep watching him closely for signs of celiac disease. I have three kids, two are teens and one in her 20s. I know that I have it, and I have told my teens, so we just watch them. There is a good chance that they inherited their dad's part, which is no celiac disease. They are aware of the possibility that they could get...
  2. Each time I slip, the reaction is different. One time it was severe sinus congestion, the next time my stomach hurt beyond belief, after that, I was very irritable and depressed. I don't know why they are always different, it is very confusing. I guess that's the thing about Celiac: it is never the same way twice! Before being gluten-free, my reactions...
  3. There are many delicious foods that are gluten-free. To satisfy my pasta cravings, I eat Ancient Harvest quinoa pastas and mix my gluten-free flours for pancakes. I don't eat breads, I haven't been able to come up with a good one that takes no eggs and no rice. Instead, I make baking soda biscuits. It works for me. I am learning to develop my palate...
  4. My doctor was trying to prove that nothing was wrong with my gall bladder, so she ordered almost every blood test on the sheet. FSH, Estradiol, and Insulin were three of the major ones she looked at, along with Lipids and liver enzymes. I have been using the Weight Watchers plan, and losing 1/2 pound a week, so I thought I was doing very well. Doc told...

    ARCHIVED Immunologist

Excellent advice. I did the same thing, and learned that rice is a bad trigger for me. That eliminated most of the pre-made gluten-free breads and such, so now I just bake at home. I wish scientists would keep exploring the immune system, and put the information out for us to read on a timely basis.
  6. Hi, Stacie, It looks like it is my time to talk about gall bladders! Mine was finally removed about 12 hours ago, after 6 months of misery and tests. What gall bladder scan did you have? Was it a biliary scan, where a dye was injected into your bloodstream, then picked up by the liver, which sent it to the gall bladder, which released into the small intestine...
  7. For my gall bladder, I had one xray, two ultrasounds, and a ct scan, all of which came back normal. The biliary scan came back normal on function, but abnormal on reaction. It was the only test that even hinted something was wrong with the gall bladder. It was removed today, and for the first time since April, I was able to eat without pain and nausea...
  8. I use Carnation, too. Rich and creamy!
  9. I had an endo on Sep 15. I remember getting an iv with Benadryl, then mylacon drops to prevent gas, then a combination of versed and demarol. The next thing I remembered was waking up in the recovery room with my husband smiling at me. I did not get a sore throat. Mine was done a 3:30 pm, so I came home and slept the evening away. I was up for a few...
  10. I had depression, but it was cyclical. It coincided with my menstrual cycle every time, so my doctor said it was hormonal depression. Sorry I can't help you more!
  11. His craving for the dairy would lead me to think it is an allergy. While it does sound strange, many times an allergic person will crave the very food that makes them sick. It will be difficult for you and him, but I think you should try taking him off dairy for 2 to 3 weeks, and see if there is any improvement. I wish you the best!
  12. That is a risk I would not take. The chances of contamination of the grasses with seeds are very high.
  13. I would suspect the mayo first. It doesn't take much for it to turn, and even if it's just a little bit bad, it will make you sick.
  14. Pleasepleaseplease reply! I have enabled email notification, so I won't miss any response to this topic!
  15. Ok, here is my response, I hope it helps! 1. Food and environmental allergies and prediabetes. Allergies came first, as a child; Celiac was second, with adult onset; prediabetes was third, just occurred. 2. I do not remember when I had my first bout with celiac, most of the symptoms have just always been there. I did (and still do) take enteric coated...
  16. My dizzy spells are caused by seasonal allergies and changes in the barometric pressure. Taking an oral decongestant usually clears it up, but make sure you talk to your doctor first. There are many things that could be causing dizziness, and you will need to be evaluated by a doc.
  17. What happens if you don't stick to the gluten-free diet? You die a slow, tortured death. I wish I could say "just kidding" with that statement, but sadly, it is true. Cheating even occasionally sets you up for horrible, painful illnesses and cancers. It shortens your lifespan. It robs you of your memory and ability to think clearly. Stay on gluten until...
  18. BRCoats, What herb did your doctor put you on? I have been diagnosed as "prediabetic", and my body is starting to resist insulin, but my doctor won't give me anything to help me with it (except the American Heart Association's heart-healthy diet). I tried to get help from another doc, but she wouldn't touch it because I did not have a referral. My insurance...
  19. I'm not sure if the herbal teas I drink are caffeine-free or not. I use Stinging Nettle tea for allergy relief, dandelion tea (root or leaf, doesn't matter) for "everything that ails me," peppermint tea for upset stomach, and plain old Lipton for "wake me up!). I know the Lipton has caffeine, that is why I use it some mornings. The stinging nettle and...
  20. I have a lot of pain in my right side, just under the ribcage. It feels like someone is running a hot poker from my front through my back, and it's coming out just under the right shoulder blade. 30 minutes after eating something with fat (dairy and meats are my triggers), I get the pain, and acid indigestion. About 4 hours later, I have to go do a #2...
  21. I have been sick from my gall bladder all summer, and had trouble getting a doctor to test it. One of the tests ordered was an endoscopy, which was done last Wed. GI doc found two "patches of inflammation" that he took biopsies from. The gall bladder doc (2 different docs, here) read the results of the biopsies to me, telling me there was inflammation...
  22. When using chickpea flour, it has stickiness in it, so the gums are not needed. It is strictly because of the chemical makeup of the bean.
  23. I am allergic to all grains that are from the grass family, eggs, poultry, peaches, tree nuts, strawberries, and nectarines. It sometimes makes eating difficult!
  24. I did forget to say that I mix up these three flours, and use them cup for cup in conventional recipes. By that I mean if the recipe calls for 1 cup of wheat flour, I use 1 cup of my flour mix. I also use ground flax for my egg replacer, since I am allergic to eggs.
  25. I have an egg allergy, too. When I do my baking, I use one tablespoon of ground flax, mixed in 3 tablespoons of hot water. Mix this up first, and let it thicken while you mix your other ingredients. It works very well for me in my baking.
