  1. I like Bush's Best Original Baked Beans. They are so yummy, and I've had no problems with them!
  2. Here in Kansas, Kroger is known as Dillons. I'll have to check it out. Also, Kroger has a program that you can sign up on, and it will give you discounts on some of what you buy there. gluten-free goodies are expensive, so I hope they have foods I can have at the discounted prices!

    ARCHIVED Just Yaken

I understood it. It was a good chuckle. I did like the use of the smileys!
  4. What is a restaurant card?
  5. Thank you, Sara, for the information. The allergist said that my reaction to food is not "allergic", but an intestinal one. I just have never had a food make my tongue go numb and my mouth swell before. I'm not sure what is going on with my body and food, so I will be asking my regular doctor a lot of questions on the third!
  6. I had gone to eating just meat, fruit, veggies, and dairy. When I ate the rice is when I had a bad reaction, so I knew what it was. Since I did test positive for grass, I started looking to see what all is a grass, and found the others. Now I am wondering if the allergy and food intolerances are somehow interconnected. I feel better without any grains...
  7. Update: The scratch test done on my back showed no reaction to anything, so they did shot tests on my arms, but not for any foods. I am very allergic to grasses, which include wheat, barley, rye, rice, sugarcane, and oats. I had to learn what all grasses learn on my own, and I did so too late. I spent 45 minutes in the ER after eating rice crackers. ...
  8. How nice to see that rice and peaches go together as allergens. I am allergic to peaches, and right now am struggling to breathe because I ate some rice crisps. I do have an IgE mediated reaction to grasses, of which rice is one. It is just nice to have some answers.
  9. I ordered the sample, and nothing was said about shipping charges. They did not take any information for billing, just name, phone, address, and email. I could not find an ingredients list, though, which does concern me. I can't have eggs, which are a "natural" product. I sent an inquiry, and hope to get a response soon.
  10. How long have you been gluten-free? It could be that you feel worse because your body is ridding itself of all ot the toxins it built up and stored before. Many times, you will feel worse for the first 2-3 weeks after going gluten-free. Are you double checking everything to make sure there is no accidental contamination? If lactose is a problem, you will...
  11. Hey, that's ok! Thanks for the heads up! We are all just trying to help one another. Someone else might not realize about different sweeteners causing reactions, or even that one could have a problem with tea leaves, so you gave us the perfect opportunity to educate others about what they drink!
  12. I disagree with Jessica in regards to what I expect my pharmacist to know. He has to know all of the drugs, their ingredients, and what reactions are possible. This is his job, knowing the product he dispenses. This is also where consumer loyalty and small business work best: I use the same small, local pharmacist for ALL of my prescription needs. (unless...
  13. Regarding the chickenpox vaccine: If you choose to have your child immunized against chickenpox (varicella), your child must then receive the vaccine at regular intervals FOR THE REST OF HIS/HER LIFE. A good bout of chickenpx itself, for a CHILD, may leave a few small scars but for the most part is not going to do permanent damage. Everything I have read...
  14. It could also be the tea itself causing the upset. I cannot have Luzianne because something about the blend of leaves makes me extremely ill. Try a different brand, or try tea with a different sweetener. Many celiacs are sensitive to corn products.
  15. When I get my hair cut, I take my own hair stuff with me. A good hairdresser will usually understand your preference for "what works best" for you. Of course, it helps that I buy my hair care supplies from the stylist that does my hair!
  16. So why not? I agree with you, since nothing else has helped. Bloodwork and endoscopy have been negative before, false ones happen. If you try the diet and start to feel better, then you will know what to do for yourself. We'll help as best we can!
  17. Malt Flavoring is made from barley, so it is definitely gluten-full!
  18. I agree with Denise: if someone wants to give your child glutenous "treats," then that same someone can take care of your child until the reaction passes!
  19. I have celiac and food allergies. While most people are totally shocked at the extent of what I can not have, there really is a lot of what I can have. I use flours made from potato, quinoa, tapioca, beans, and corn; eggs for baking are replaced with ground flax or Ener-G's egg replacer; I just plain avoid all nuts; and when I was dairy-free, there was...
  20. If someone has one type of antibody against gluten, then gluten should not be consumed at all. Even though it is "just one", it is still your signal that the body is fighting the gluten. The human body is notoriously adaptable: if one antibody can't win the "war", then more will be produced to help. I would listen to Dr Fine.
  21. Since it is estimated that 1 in 133 people actually have celiac disease, you'd think there would be a support group in every town of over 5000 people. What a shame the diagnosis rate is not up to par. How many people does that make walking around with celiac disease that are totally unaware they have it? Sad.
  22. Between Pittsburg and Columbus. I love this state!
  23. Hi, Emily! I'm almost 40, just diagnosed, and living in Southeast Kansas. What part of Kansas are you from?
  24. Rheumatoid arthritis is an autoimmune disease. It is not curable by any special diet. Gluten Intolerance and Celiac Disease will sometimes kick it into gear, but it does not cause it. Special diets can alleviate the symptoms, but will not cure it.
  25. The weather channel did a report on the sun the other day, saying it is 20 degrees higher in the sky than normal, so it is where it would normally be in July. Maybe that is the reason for burning easier. It only took 30 minutes in the sun for me to get a sunburn on my back that took 3 days to quit hurting (it was bright red) in April. I thought maybe it...
