ARCHIVED Weird Symptoms Related?
plantime replied to cornygirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
1. Yes 2. Yes 3. I don't know. I do know that celiac disease causes allergy and intolerance symptoms that sometimes clear up after being gluten-free for a while. -
ARCHIVED Before I Visit The Doctor Could You Help Me?
plantime replied to Chantalle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I wound up with my subscription by accident. Someone ordered it through a school fundraiser my son was doing, and never paid for it. As the parent of the child doing the selling, I had to pay for it. It made me angry when it happened, but after reading that issue, I'm happy! -
ARCHIVED I Found An "asian Market"
plantime replied to plantime's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It takes 45 minutes one way to get there, so once a month I am just going to make a day of it! It is a great excuse for a trip to Joplin! -
Hey, Jen, NOPE!! Some of them use wheat starch in the cheesy coating. It is buried in the middle-to-the-end of the ingredients list. That was my favorite chip, too!

ARCHIVED Before I Visit The Doctor Could You Help Me?
plantime replied to Chantalle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I used the symptom list published in the Feb issue of Woman's Day. I had ALL of the "atypical" symptoms. I think it was Feb 18 issue. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Accident
plantime replied to Mom22's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You did cover all of your bases. The sub was wwwaaaayyyyy out of line! She had no business feeding anything to any of the kids without asking one of the regular teachers about it first. I used to do home day care, and I never let anyone else feed the kids that I knew had food problems! Cool your jets, talk to the head honcho at the Y, and let them take... -
A pill cannot cure it, so there is no incentive for pharmacy companies to educate people about it. No one has committed a horrific crime and blamed on celiac disease, so there is no publicity value in it. We just have to do our best ourselves!

ARCHIVED Before I Visit The Doctor Could You Help Me?
plantime replied to Chantalle's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am overweight. My doctor said that only meant that damage to the villi was not yet severe enough for the diarrhea and weightloss. She used the diet results for a diagnosis of celiac sprue, and told me that I must be gluten-free for the rest of my life. Constipation is part of the problem that I have. Yes, it is caused by the celiac sprue. I read people... -
ARCHIVED If They Came Out With An Anti-Gluten Pill Thingy
plantime replied to celiac3270's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Considering all of the things that wheat does to my body, I would be afraid of what the pill would to me! There are too many side-effects to everything! -
ARCHIVED Biopsy Negative
plantime replied to j9n's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A negative biopsy only means the section biopsied was not damaged. You can still have celiac or gluten intolerance. Please keep this in mind as you search for your cure. The best to you! -
ARCHIVED Very Dry Skin
plantime replied to ROYAL BLUE's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Are you using any kind of lotion on his skin? Some lotions use wheat germ oils, and cause skin reactions. Try using just plain baby oil gel with no fragrance. It is the only thing that helps my skin whenever I have a gluten accident. Also, check his soap. Sometimes wheat is used as binders in the soap. -
ARCHIVED I Found An "asian Market"
plantime posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I looked in the yellow pages but found nothing under "Asian Markets," so I then looked under "Health Food Stores." One store had a box that listed four different markets it catered to, including Asian! Thank you to whoever it was that told me to look for an Asian market! They have everything I need, and a lot of stuff I don't need! -
Thank you, thank you! Your assistance is greatly appreciated!

ARCHIVED Make-up
plantime replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
When I use makeup, I use Mary Kay. I do not use foundation, and I am very selective about what cleanser I use, as they use nuts, which I am allergic to. My Mary Kay dealer gave me a book listing all of the products and th ingredients, so I am able to make informed choices. -
In regards to fries and such: My son, who works at Sonic, told me that they use one basket for fries, another for tots, another for chicken, and so on, but for me not to eat anything deep-fried because they use one huge vat of oil for all of the baskets.

ARCHIVED Converting Baking Recipes
plantime replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I don't think so. I am going to try one of my cake recipes for my daughter's birthday next week, so I was glad to read of what you do! The Bette Hagman cookbook I have is full of recipes that my family would call exotic, so I am going to be experimenting with my old ones. -
This makes two of us wondering how it is done. I am woefully illiterate in computer!

ARCHIVED This Information Might Be Helpful
plantime replied to neff-terence's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Terence, Thank you for your post. The common theme I have noticed while reading it is that >you< have taken control >yourself< for what you eat. It is something we all need to do. -
ARCHIVED Over-the-counter Meds
plantime replied to cornygirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I don't like taking supplements, but I am trying cod liver oil softgels. It is supposed to ease damage caused by osteoarthritis, which plagues my joints. I also use a vitamin/mineral supplement made by Nature Made. I put flax seed in my breakfast, and eat lots of garlic throughout the day. I have just started with the cod liver oil, so I don't know if... -
ARCHIVED Connie's Pizza
plantime replied to Connie R-E's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Connie, All of the recipes I have ever done with pizza crust requires pre-baking. Otherwise, the result is exactly what you got: an underdone crust! It only requires about 8 minutes in the oven. -
ARCHIVED Cod Liver Oil
plantime replied to travelthomas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Yes, Thomas, I had heard of that. Sadly, my joints are damaged by arthritis. The doctor ran blood tests, and found way more of the osteoarthritis proteins than a woman my age should have (according to her, anyway!). I had been told by a different doctor that I have rheumatoid arthritis, but the proteins are not in my bloodwork. Since I do not feel like... -
ARCHIVED Cod Liver Oil
plantime replied to travelthomas's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I am definitely going to have to try it. The last two years have been agony on my joints! -
Hey, Connie! I drive past Fayetteville going to see my dad in Hot Springs! Beautiful countryside! Thomas, Where are you going after Oregon?

I can only afford one gluten-free cookbook, so I am asking for suggestions on which is best to get. I do not do gourmet cooking, so a basic one is what I need. Which is your favorite?
