  1. I checked out those areas, and the closest one is a three hour drive. I need something I can actually get to.
  2. While the IGg is not a confirmed diagnosis, a high one is an indicator. Sometimes supplements have gluten in them for binders and thickeners. Look for words like maltodextrin, modified food starch, and hydrolized protein in the ingredients. Sometimes these ingredients are ok, sometimes they are not. Just hang in there, and come talk to us if you need...
  3. Melanie, I'm sorry you are not feeling well, and having such a hard time with your doctor. However, you can completely do away with the stress of dealing with the doctor if you want to. You have learned from the diet itself what makes you sick. I have never heard of a Celiac blood test that does not rely on gluten consumption. Enterolab's stool panel...
  4. I am looking for a support group in southeast Kansas. I am down around Pittsburg, Kansas, also fairly close to Joplin, Missouri. If there are no known groups in my area, how would I go about starting one?
  5. The more severe your symptoms, the longer you have to be on the diet to see improvement. I would guess that one month was not long enough to be gluten/dairy-free. Try the diet again, but for at least 3 months.

    ARCHIVED Baskin Robbins

Yes, Whoppers are glutenous. They have malted barley, wheat flour, malt syrup, artificial flavors, and modified food starch. The first two are definite no-nos, the other three raise red flags.
  7. It sure is!! Most fat people have moderate to severe anemia. Have you consulted a weight/height chart? Maybe what you are considering "chubby" is actually in your normal range. You might try eating more protein instead of bread and pasta, you will feel full longer, as it takes longer to digest.
  8. Here are a few things that I have not reacted to: Great Value all-beef hotdogs Banquet Frozen Dinners: ONLY the pot roast and sliced beef (the rest have wheat or poultry) Beef and Pork bought from the butcher Fruits Vegetables brick cheeses (I am can have dairy-not blue cheese) Rice flour bean flour xanthan gum flax seed (I bought a coffee grinder...
  9. Your daughter has to follow the same diet I have to follow! Please keep in mind that an allergy to eggs usually translates into an allergy to all poultry products. I use Ener-G egg replacer, or 1 Tbsp ground flax mixed with 3 Tbsp warm water for each egg in my baking. It translates very well in my baking. The hardest part will be the fried and scrambled...
  10. It was on the list because no one knew what is was made of. Your' specified soy, so it is alright. Do they have beef in those things?
  11. Maybe we should all go to Italy and ask the doctors there if we have celiac disease. At least they won't treat us like stupid idiots over it!
  12. I have to get a referal(sp?) from my regular doctor, so I scheduled an appt with her June 3. I have had sinus drainage problems all my life, so I'm hoping to learn something besides "hay fever."
  13. Hey, be encouraged, Mel! Every little step in the right direction is progress, and she took a huge one!
  14. I have problems with pale stools whenever I am iron deficient. Maybe you should have anemia testing.
  15. Hi, Yankee. I know I'm not Thomas, but I suggest that if you are going to travel in the continental US, try driving instead of flying. You can store your cooking gear in the trunk, and tailgate cook if you need to. I would use disposable dishes whenever possible, simply because I hate washing dishes! The sinks in hotels are rarely large enough!
  16. I agree with Tiffany. My doctor accepted the dietary challenge, now it is up to me to eat right for me. Even if my doctor had not accepted it, the outcome would have been the same. I had already changed my diet, was feeling better, and refuse to go back. So, Now What? Now eat right for your body, and take care of yourself.
  17. I don't know about the pasta, but you can get the flours and breads at The GlutenFree Mall, unless you are outside of the US. I use the quinoa pasta, I like the taste and texture. I saw gluten-free bread frozen at both of the health food stores I shopped at last time, so I don't see why you can't freeze it. If you are the only one eating it, try freezing...
  18. I go to Dollar General and get the generic nasal decongestant spray. It works very well for me, and I don't have to use it all the time. Also, it is cheap, and does not make my blood pressure skyrocket.
  19. Here I sit, 10 minutes to midnight. Sometimes I have insomnia, sometimes apnea. My sister talked to her doctor, and got help. I will be talking to my doctor June 3. I don't know if it's related to celiac disease. I still have my tonsils.
  20. Spitting up, paleness, moodiness, and tummy aches are all mild symptoms of celiac. Since you have celiac, have your doctor order the gene panels for both kids. It is hereditary, and it will make a difference in their lives. Enterolab has a stool test that is non-invasive, and very accurate. Yes, it is expensive, but not as expensive as repeated trips...
  21. I have celiac and allergies, so he probably has both. It makes finding the culprits and eliminating them harder. I am glad he is starting to get better. Yes, I believe in prayer!!
  22. I don't have a lot of cabinet space, either, so I just use one shelf and two bins for my stuff. I make sure it is clearly marked, so my family knows not to eat it. I do not have my own pans and utensils, though. My canisters are different colors and stored in across the kitchen from the family set.
  23. Fruit and oily french fries will only exaserbate diarrhea. The gluten-free waffles are a good start, but she really needs rice. She also needs time, since the damage to her intestines could have been severe. The BRAT diet is what I have always used for diarrhea: bananas, rice, applesauce, and gluten-free toast with no toppings. It sounds bland and boring...
  24. Your son very well could be celiac, especially if you are. Acid reflux like his could be his body trying to digest the gluten. I never complained about only doing a #2 once every 10 days because I thought it was normal for me. Every body is different, after all! I did complain about the pms and cramps, the mood swings were destroying my marriage and the...
  25. I educated the local butcher about it this morning. He can get me beef and pork that is only grain-fed, with none of the hormones and other garbage, but I will have to buy 1/2 of the animal to get it. I am calling all of my family to see if they want in on it. Meat with no additives is such a blessing for me!
