Excellent! Thank you... that has just made my day😀. Living on the 52nd parallel, sunshine is scarce. I have osteopenia, what I'm really interested in is whether or not that can be reversed through nutrition. Collagen seems to play a big part in bone building, along with sufficient mineral intake and Vitamin k2. Any thoughts from anyone on this subject wo...

Type 2 Diabetes and gluten free diet
Rogol72 replied to Jillebjill's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm not a Diabetic so I can't really speak from a Diabetic's perspective. I've been told many times in the past few years to watch my blood sugar as they were creeping into the "we need to watch this closely" zone, yet I follow AIP and don't consume excess additional sugar. My iron levels have been borderline for a while, so when I focused on addressing that... -
Blindsided by positive test results
Rogol72 replied to Fairy92's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can feel quiet under the weather with a subclinical iron deficiency alone without technically being iron deficient anemic. Especially when we Coeliacs don't or can't eat the limited amount of iron fortified gluten-free foods. All my bloods have been perfect anemia wise and within the reference ranges ... the low end I might add, yet I was wasn't firing... -
It's funny you say that @knitty kitty about Vitamin D and the body craving it!. I backed off Vitamin D over the summer months as my level was at 124. I recently started back on a BetterYou Vitamin D3 spray which has 3000ius per spray. I felt like taking two sprays on one or two occasions which is too much 6000iu. I got my bloods done last week and my level...

There are other conditions that may cause itchy skin that can coexist with DH ... Iron Deficiency/Anemia and underactive Thyroid, these can be easily missed or overlooked. https://www.usdermatologypartners.com/blog/getting-rid-of-itchy-skin-with-no-rash/ Iodine does exacerbate DH, I can attest to that.

proud of my healing
Rogol72 replied to MADMOM's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Congrats @MADMOM ...well done! Just goes to show you hard work and diligence really does pays off. @Kate333, that's really impressive to get G antibodies so low. Mine were at 3.1 a year ago, more motivation to get even lower now!! -
No many would think of this but that's a great catch. Well done. Hopefully, it's the source of your problem.

Effects, and side effects, of Dapsone
Rogol72 replied to statguymark's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Having a cheat day is never ever worth it. The longer you are off gluten, the more sensitive you become to smaller amounts. I've gone to a Dietitian at the hospital where I was diagnosed with DH, and the Dietitian affiliated with our Coeliac Society. They do offer good advice, however they don't know everything and it's better to speak to a dietitian... -
NEW TO CELIAC DISEASE
Rogol72 replied to Slayxbella's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is there any risk of hookworm infection getting out of control? How many are administered for each treatment? Have you had your TTG levels tested after treatment? Sorry for the questions, but this is fascinating ... i've got UC in remission, celiac disease and DH. -
Clobetasol Propionate Cream, Usp, 0.05%
Rogol72 replied to 124chicksinger's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
A cautionary tale about supplements and medications. I recently came across a calcium supplement Kalcipos at my local pharmacy. I looked at the ingredients and it seemed to be gluten free but had Maltodextrin in it. So I emailed the manufacturer/distrubitor and asked if there was gluten and/or what the maltodextrin was derived from. Sure enough, they replied... -
@Tyler2022, Here's a home Coeliac test you can get in the UK ... https://www.letsgetchecked.co.uk/home-coeliac-test/ You should be able to get a Coeliac blood test on the NHS which would be better. I would strongly advocate for one based on your symptoms. https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coeliac-disease/diagnosis/ With regard to the endoscopy...

I don't know whether you can get gluten from dog food, but what you're describing is plausible. Are you consuming any excess iodine in your diet or from supplements? Iodine causes DH to flare. In the past, my DH has flared from too much iodine in my diet.

Effects, and side effects, of Dapsone
Rogol72 replied to statguymark's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
You're welcome. I'm glad it's worked for you. People with DH are generally more sensitive to small amounts of gluten that most Coeliacs. -
Effects, and side effects, of Dapsone
Rogol72 replied to statguymark's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Hey @statguymark, Welcome! Dapsone is a double edged sword. It does actually work very quickly depending on the dosage, within a few hours to 24 hours depending on how active your DH is. I believe it only stops the itch from an active DH flare up. The TTG antibodies will still remain in your system/dermis until they dissipate over time with a strict... -
@knitty kitty, One other question, I also tried some bacon rashers two days in a row for breakfast. Between watching histamine foods, avoiding excess iodine and not being able to handle gluten-free oats, it's hard to find something filling to eat for breakfast! Here's the ingredients ... Irish Pork (88%), Water, Salt, Preservatives (Sodium Nitrate,...

Thanks for this! I was curious about other people's experience on AIP and yours sounds all too familiar to me. It was homemade potato salad with new potatoes (skins on and chopped) and Hellman's Mayonnaise which contains paprika extract. I've read that the skins on potatoes have the most alkaloids. Nightshades are just as evil if not more than gluten! They...

I agree. The knowledge of the Admins and Mods here is incredible. Thiamine is a big one as it's hard to for Coeliacs to get it in sufficient amounts from food. I was taking 200mg of Magnesium Glycinate which kinda worked but since cranking up to 400-500mg daily in split doses, that has really helped. Hope you feel better soon.

I think Dairy and Soy are the main ones. Some Coeliacs can't tolerate certified gluten free Oats. Corn and eggs can also be problematic.

I wouldn't take what those test results say as gospel, more so as an indicator. I think you would be better served by keeping a food diary throughout the day to see how you react to certain foods. You can't exclude everything, so maybe just excluding foods that register a severe reaction or the heavy hitters that are common in most Coeliacs. If your vitamin...

I can confirm that dietary iodine does exacerbate DH along with omega 3 fish oil and cod liver oil ... it causes random pin pricks on the skin and itching. Here's a case report ... https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6698721/

@Cramper, The moderators here (all Coeliac) are excellent and may offer better advice. First of all it is definitely worth pursuing a definitive diagnosis of Coeliac Disease either way if you can relate to being "glutened", as you may have Non Coeliac Gluten Sensitivity. However, you mentioned mucus and foul smelling with flatulence above which caught my...

How often do you test antibiodies?
Rogol72 replied to yuluyouyue's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That's really impressive. Well done!! My TTG levels last year were at 3.1, though I'm not sure what my IGA levels are. Time to get it checked again. -
I believe I have this! Serology tests all negative
Rogol72 replied to Hb333's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I'm a long time DH'er, 10+ years. The first and really only clue was the sudden onset of a rash on my back that itched like crazy which my Dermatologist thought was Eczema. Steroid cream did not help at which point a skin biopsy for DH was taken and came back positive. A subsequent intestinal biopsy via endoscopy was negative for Coeliac Disease! A definitive...
