I use the majority of my old recipes......just sub in gluten free flour. You can use something like Bob's Red Mill gluten-free All purpose flour or mix your own. For baked goods I use a mixture of tapioca starch, potato starch and rice flour......it seems to turn out GREAT!! For thickners in gravies and such I use corn starch. Good luck......it DOES get easier!!

spring pea soup with U.S. caviar, Dover sole almondine, spring lamb with chanterelle sauce and local vegetables, and an arugula, mustard greens and romaine salad, said executive chef Cristeta Comerford.
Looks like the menu could have been pretty easily adjusted to be gluten free. I'm sure that Elizabeth made arrangements before the dinner so that her meal was safe. Or at least I would "hope" so

I never in a million years thought my question would be printed!!! I hope it helps to create a bit of awareness.......even if just one person reads it and "gets it" or looks up gluten-free.
I am still just terribly excited.

That is exciting. Hopefully she doesn't end up on the "cutting room floor"!!!! That would super stink.

Ok it's not like a picture of me, or an article about me. But My name is IN people magazine!! I am soooo excited!!
I was searching their website the other day for the info on the Dana Korn article. Came across this thing where you could submit a question for Rachael Ray to answer. I asked what she would cook for a romantic gluten free dinner.
I bought the issue of People thinking the Dana Korn article would be in there, however it keeps getting pushed back. Well I DO love people so I was reading it....and OMG OMG OMG....there is my question and name in print!! I am floored!
You can find it on pg. 124 in the May 14,07 issue.

We went with the 1st poem. I presented them both to my Grandma and she put my favorite one on there (1st one). I thought it was a little different and it just seemed "right".
Thanks for all of the kind words!! It helps to know people care.

Thank you all so much for your condolances. It means alot. She was a great lady loved flowers, gardening, cooking. She used to be a foods judge for local fairs, she was a meat cutter for a local butcher, she ran track in High school when it wasn't acceptable for girls to do so. She could name any bird or flower you presented her with. She took an immediate interest in my celiac and how in the world I would bake without flour. Grams came to appreciate the non gluten filled baked goods I made.
She was a neat lady with tons of stories to tell. She will be missed greatly.

I made the most delisious coffee cake yesterday!
From "living gluten free for dummies" by danna korn
1/4 cup canola oil
2 eggs (beaten)
1/2 cup milk (sorry guys but maybe a milk substitute of some kind?)
1 1/2 cup gluten-free flour (I used bobs red mill)
1 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
1 cup sugar
2 tsp baking powder
nonstick spray (I used crisco shortning instead as I HATE nonstick sprays in general)
Topping:
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 TBsp gluten-free flour
2 tsp cinnamon
2 TBsp melted butter
1) mix eggs, oil and milk (beat)
2) sift remaining into wet mixture and mix well
3) topping: mix together and sprinkle on top of batter
Oven 375 for 25 minutes
9 inch square pan
I used an 8 inch as its all I had on hand, came out pretty good too! The tile guys working on my bathroom loved it and hubby stole the much desired center piece this morning before I woke up!
The milk didnt bother me "to badly" but still think I will play the milk slowly for a while longer.

Thank you for the awesome recipe. It was great and SUPER easy to make!

You can purchase the orangey powder cheese. It can be found in a blue can. I believe they market it as a "popcorn cheese". Places like wal-mart carry it. I hope you can find it in your area.

At around 1:00 this morning my great grandmother passed away. She has lived a very long wonderful life (just 3 months shy of being 101 years old). She was very alert and able to have conversations and such right up until her death. She was a very lucky lady. I will miss her. We (my family) spent all day yesterday at her bedside. Hospice told us that she would go yesterday. She held out a little longer and passed early this morning. My grandmother was with her when she went peacefully in her sleep.
I need you to help me choose a poem for her funeral announcement. I have two poems that I found when cleaning out her home a couple of years ago. She must have liked them both because she saved them both. Help me choose which one to use. Thanks for your help

Consolation
For those I love and who love me
When I am gone, release me--let me go,
I have so many things to see and do.
You must not tie yourself to me with tears,
Be happy that we had so many years.
I gave my love, you can only guess
How much you gave to me in happiness
I thank you for the love we have each shown.
But now it

Hi,
I just recently purchased the Oreo cookie falvored pudding and saw nothing suspect in the ingredients. Is there something I'm missing? Kraft lists all gluten containing ingredients.
Thanks
Possibly you are talking about the ready to eat kind (in the little containers)? I think that those possibly might not have cookie crumbs in them. The question is reguarding the instant pudding (in the box). I checked again at the store today when I went and the pudding contains cookie crumbs.....therefore wheat. I would stay away from it. As previously stated, always read the box/label with KRAFT products. They clearly list
What a great company!!

I went to the grocery store today and picked up the edition dated May 14th. There is not an article on Dana in it (that I can see). However there is a mention of celiac in a blurb about Elizabeth Hasselbeck. Am I missing the article or has it been pushed again?

Hey guys
This has probably been posted before but i think its a great idea.......
Check out the link and help spread the word and contribute towards the research by buying a bracelet

They have been selling these for a few years now. It's a great way to create awareness. Someone might see it on your wrist and ask what celiac is, opens the door to educate someone on the disease!! If you don't have a bracelet yet, please get one.

I finally found the pictures from the scopes that I had in 2002. All of the pictures of my diverticulitis are from the ascending colon side!!!! Now to present the info to the doc
I hope he just goes for antibiotics and not a referral to a gastro.
-Jessica
-
I do, I have (had?) the little buggers all the way throughout my entire colon, they were found in a colonoscopy a couple years prediagnosis. The same scope that caused the I Be Stupid diagnosis at which I was told to just get more fiber. My GI said that was very unusual, usually they only see it on the left. Don't know if this helps but at least you know your not the only one. On a follow up colonoscopy I had a couple weeks ago GI said many of the diverticuli were gone. I have been gluten-free for almost 5 years and don't know if that is why they have lessened or not.
Glad to know there is someone out there who has it (so I know I'm not crazy) ha
Now if I can only convince the dr that this "might" be what is wrong
-Jessica
-
Thanks.........Dr wants to send me to a Gastro...........I haven't been to one since my diagnosis
The one I went to has since moved. I'm hoping my doctor will just go for trying a round of antibiotics to get my white count and fever down and see if the pain goes away. I've already had an ultrasound, bloodwork and a pipida scan.

Hi Ladies and Gents.
I am making homemade chicken soup . I have cooked the chicken when I noticed in my lovely broth that the pad that soaks up the blood had been in the pot cooking with the chicken!
Do you think that there is any harm in eating the soup?
TIA~
Ok here is some info from a USDA site. I hope it helps:
Open Original Shared LinkWhat to do About Packaging Accidentally Cooked in a Conventional Oven?Plastic packaging materials should not be used at all in conventional ovens. They may catch on fire or melt, causing chemical migration into foods. Sometimes these materials are inadvertently cooked with a product. For example, giblets may be accidentally cooked inside the turkey in their packaging or a beef roast may be cooked with the absorbent pad from the fresh meat packaging underneath.
The giblet bag and the absorbent pad are clearly not intended to be cooked, however if this happens and the packaging materials remain unaltered (that is, do not melt or come apart) the cooked meat will not pose an imminent health hazard. If the packaging materials have melted or changed shape in some other way do not use the product.

I have been having alot of tests run here lately and they have just ruled out gallbladder. The thought stuck in the back of my head is that it is "just" my diverticulitis. However, like the usual trouble I have with it, the pain is on the right side. Still having fever, vomiting, pain, nausea, chills, not hungry, etc.
In researching this......the pain/diverticulitis would have to be in the ascending colon. Instead of where most folks usually get it (descending colon, left side).
Have any of you had diverticulitis in the ascending colon?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Happy gluten-free Anniversary to you!!! Congrats on 2 years!! I wish you many more healthy ones!

Today is exactly 2 years since I was offically diagnosed with Celiac Disease. In some respects it seems like yesterday that I started the gluten free diet. In the beginning I thought I was going to spend the rest of my life reading labels. As it turns out I only have to read every now and then since most of my diet consists of naturally gluten free food. One thing I have noticed in the past 2 years is the increased awareness of Celiac Disease/Gluten Intolerance. One of the most obvious examples is the number of members on this board. It has almost tripled since I joined in the Fall of 2005. It is hard for me to imagine how alone most of the people must have felt 10-20 years ago before the internet. For all of you who are just coming aboard let me say welcome and coping is getting easier. As hard as it may seem in the beginning there is light at the end of the tunnel. Best of luck to you all.Tom

Sorry no answers
, but kind of glad there's no mention of surgery yet. Hope you get reassuring answers soon!
Personal question from a stranger
...did the technician doing your ultrasound mention seeing gas pockets? Mine did and and had to push around a good bit because the gas limited her visibility. I ask that because even though I had no stones, and had my non-functioning gallbladder removed (see below), I still get sharp gallbladder type symptoms if I'm gassy.
For anyone following this thread, if you don't have gallstones, aren't gluten-free or haven't been gluten-free long and your PIPIDA or HIDA scan shows a non-functioning gallbladder, going strictly gluten-free will restore function according to the findings in this study.

I had my gallbaldder out in 2000 because my HIDA scan showed it wasn't functioning ...wasn't diagnosed with Celiac until last year. If I'd known, I could have avoided the pain of surgery, risk to my body and saved lots of $$$.
The tech didn't say much of anything (he had the personality of a flea). He didn't mention gas bubbles.
Thanks for the kind words girls.....it does help. I am a bit down right now because of no answers and feeling like poop
Temp is 99.6 tonight.......and I usually run below normal so it's a fever for me. BLAH!
Does anyone know if you can have diverticulitis in/on your ascending colon (right side)? OR is that only something that occurs on the descending colon (left side)?
I am also wondering if this isn't my problem.....high white count, pain, fatigue, fevers, vomiting......also matches those symptoms. I have diverticulitis.....but pain is usually on the left side....this pain is on my right side.

Congrats!! Babies are so exciting.

Called and got the results of my pipida. Gallbladder is functioning fine
Now they want to send me onto a gastro. The doctor says he is not sure what is going on
I'm a bit depressed about all this. I just want to feel better. It scares me to be bounced from Dr. to Dr. again. Reminds me of when I got my Celiac diagnosis......scary!!

WooHoo!!!! I am sooo excited!!!!! Do you think teh reason George is going to another hospital is b/c of teh spin off?????
I think that if the George character leaves the show, it would not be for the spin off. It would be because of the behind the scenes problems (Iziah Washington making Gay slurs twards the guy who plays George and is gay). But that's just my opinion..........

Goodies At Work
in Coping with Celiac Disease
Posted
I totally understand where you are comming from. At my school they have a big birthday bash once a month and there isn't a thing in there I am able to eat. The people look at me like I am crazy when I walk in, survey the goodies, and walk back out with no food in hand. (keep in mind I have told them several times about celiac, so they "should" know why I don't eat it, but don't
)
So far we haven't gotten a thing for teacher appreciation week...........maybe you can send your massage crew over!! That sounds like a nice treat.
