  1. With our allergies Julie, we were skin tested and skin tested again the next year. Our allergist said, and it has born out to be true so far, that you can test pos., avoid the food long enough and the next test will be neg. but if you reintroduce the food, you can end up symptomatic, meaning that you haven't ditched the allergy, the test was just neg. becuase...
  2. I tried this recipe this morning for pancakes using only oats as the flour. Used rice milk for dairy-free. I took a small risk and used a baking powder with potato starch. Hope it doesn't bother me. Need to get in the kitchen soon and make my own corn, tapioca and potato free baking powder. Open Original Shared Link I have to say, these tasted very...
  3. Thanks FS, Nor did I intend my reply with a certain tone. There are starches and there are starches LOL. I got rid of so amny baking pans early on and didn't bake to speak of the first couple years. Now I am getting my mojo back again, slowly. I understand the no one to eat it angle too. My DH doesn't like sweets so won't eat anything but...
  4. I hadn't checked into it, but it doesn't suprize me, with so many companies dealing with both gluten-free and non-gluten-free. When I first went LC and dropped all grains I used TRader Joes Almond meal and clear got glutening symptoms so I switched to a company that doesn't deal with any gluten and everything was fine. It may be that my body's healed enough...
  5. I use a mix of brands-Bob's, Arrowhead Mills, and the asian rice flour. I don't eat baked often because I have to bake all my own and don't have that much time or energy. I can no longer eat ANY of the commercially prepared grain based products, except rice chex, rice krispy type cereals and b. rice pasta. My symptoms are classic allergy symptoms-mouth...
  6. I am one who benefits from rotation. It is not a situation where you have to lose the foods you have now. You can keep all that you tolerate now AND add some back. There are templates/papers that you can fill in to help keep track, otherwise I could never if I didn't have it all written down. I should have rotated sooner, but I didn't know about it. I...
  7. Alice, I am well aware of the impact of carbs an blood sugar and craving, if that's what you refer to. I don't crave carbs. I managed being insulin deficient and no meds or insulin on low-carb for 2 years. That was without soy, casein and little egg. But 1 by 1 I became allergic to most of my low carb foods so went off LC and on insulin and added back...
  8. Thanks for the good reminder alice. I had seen some on the packages and should check Bob's site. These darn allergies, I feel overwhelmed at the moment! Every time I get something good going, the rules change and I have to reinvent everything all over again!
  9. Bunny, that's why it's a good idea to rotate testing times, to see if you catch and highs or lows. Now it seems you've got a bunch of good 1 hrs. you can consider moving on to a round of 2 hrs. Your Ogtt. showed that BG barely budged at 2 hrs. when it is supposed to go down more than it did. Food is different sometimes. Digestion may slow it not giving much...
  10. Sweet potato flour is possible, I did see something like that in the asian market. Do I want to say it was called Fu Fu Flour? I'll have to loook into it. I have seen coconut flour but what I've see an low carb/grain-free recipes which have a high proportion of eggs, which doesn't set well with me-too many eggs. I did Low carb baking in the past before...
  11. Anyone tried baking with no starches in their blend? I am allergic to tapioca, potato and corn now:( I can use arrowroot, but find it too strong in flavor to use much of. I had read that maybe sweet rice flour can be subbed, at least for part of the starches and tried that as a sub for a very small amount of the starch in a muffin recipe that had cornstarch...
  12. Extreme thist can be a sign of blood sugar imbalance. Have you been tested? Ice cream has a fair amount of sugar in it, do you have the same thirst after other dairy that has no added sugar? If that was your symptom for casein allergy then you should get the same symptom with a similar ingredient in a similar portion, something like milk or cream,...
  13. Oh, yeah! I HAVE to set a timer. No way can I mange not to. I bought a little one that is a kitchen timer for the hearing impaired so I can switch it to no sound and a flashing light or vibrate when I am out in church etc. It does sound too for at home. There is one on the meters but I wanted the no sound option and setting the timer on the meter frustrates...
  14. Interesting! I'll have to keep an eye on symtoms when I try to reintroduce it, but I am wondering how much gluten would be left by the time it ends up as oil or lecitin. Seeds, you'd think they'd wash and that'd remove a lot. Hmmm. Most of my symptoms with foods have been allergy symtoms and different from glutening but I don't remember clearly enough about...
  15. I haven't gone that far but if I think about what we would do if I did, I would switch all their tortillas to soft and hard shell corn and set up a sandwich making station in the garage. My DH only uses bread for sandwiches and only eats/takes them to work, not at home so since we have an extra fridge in the garage, I could set up a small table and keep cutting...
  16. I see there haven't been any responses yet. Maybe if you shared a bit more it would help us to know what would be helpful. Since you have the menu and will be there, what exactly is it that you would like ideas for? Are there specific menu items that you don't have recipes for yet? Are there questions about what equipment you should bring with you...
  17. You are not alone. I recently dropped sunflower after suspected reactions to a salad dressing with the oil in it and Earthbalance spread which has the lecitin. I felt much better! I'm pretty confident thst it was the sunflower because I have SO many allergies and eat VERY simple foods, with no ingrediemts lists or very short ones. In time, I will try to reintroduce...
  18. I haven't tried many recipes but I tried this today and it was very good. Open Original Shared Link I made some modifications because of allergies: rice milk 1 Tb less sugar because I like not overly sweet and the rice milk already has some sugar in it-so 7 Tb. of sugar. I didn't have a blend on hand so made up just enough for the recipe based...
  19. 5 fingers on each hand X 3 sites on each finger X 2 hands = plenty of test sites! Interesting=neither good nor bad, just not what I would expect, but that's why it's better to test! These things are not predicatable, even for the docs.
  20. Yes, that's my experience as well. I had nice stable BG on low carb. I don't think your ogtt was a fluke. My Bg is that way. I can get mild lows but go really high too. 83 is perfectly normal, 60 something is a bit low. I'd feel yucky and weak at that. Even 70 something finds me feeling it. One thing you can do is used a measured dose of glucose...
  21. Go ahead and enjoy your mayo! Maybe check the label for sugar content. Some fats keep us satisfied and can give us energy. We need some. The worst thing you can do is to eat high or fast acting carbs and no or low-fat. I had forgotten about spaghetti squash-it's "low-carb" and good with pesto too, or cinnamon and "butter", or with a bit of crumbled bacon...
  22. So glad to hear your news and that you can get a meter and eventually an endo visit. I want to say that I am sorry I said in my first reply that your numbers were not non-diabetic. That was a little over the top. I just feel so shocked and outraged when I feel that docs are ingnoring their patients health and I know they are often just towing the standard...
  23. Bunny, Could you ask your doc for a meter? Many will give them out free. Also you can get them free from pharmacies and mfrs. sometimes. Thing is you'll need a prescription for strips or they are costly out of pocket.
  24. Bunny, you ask a lot of the questions that I am still looking for answers to. I did get gene tested so I can say that genes(and family history bearing that out) are part of it. The family history is in regards to celiac disease, not diabetes. I'm the first we know of with diabetes, but that same celiac disease gene I have is also linked with diabetes. ...
  25. I tried to send you a PM SleepyBunny but got the message that you can't use the messagig system? Don't know what's up with that. Maybe your settings? Maybe start a post on how to send PM's in the technical help forum. Oh, and there's a little envelope symbol under your avatar on the left side of your posts. I can click on that to send you a PM, but I see...
