  1. We loved our Diaper Genie.
  2. You didn't mention how you treat the infections. I hope you don't mind some unsolicited adice on how to. I used to get them all the time and the doctors kept giving me all sorts of antibiotics that really didn't agree with me. I tried going to an ear/nose throat specialist and that didn't help either. This all was pre-gluten free. I read about rinsing...
  3. I have experienced the above as well as many other things you did not touch on(with my father). You didn't mention it but I'm concerned about what will happen when your mother is no longer able to or chooses not to take care of herself. I bring this up because my father has similar issues and when I was not much more than 30 and my son was barely in kindergarden...
  4. How do I go about the whole gluten free meds thing? I think I have a bladder infection. We moved and I haven't been through this with previous Dr. I don't have a GP here yet. A fellow celiac recommended an internal Med. dr. but don't know if I can go to him with something like this, it seems he deals with more serious things and is hard to get in to(I...
  5. Thank you so much for these recipies! I wasn't going to bake this year but knowing you'd tried these recipies out and seeing the picture gave me the confidence to try it. I made the jam thumbprints this morning and they tuned out great! This is what I used to make for Christmas. Thank you for your gift to us. This made my Christmas! I used Gluten...
  6. What brand of PB Cups and choc. chips do you use?
  7. Yeah! Somebody made a song just for us!
  8. Sandy, Hi, I'm fairly new at this too. It's challenging for me to stand up for myself too. I'm sure others will chime in with great advice. There are many here who are very well versed. As for me, I was invited to a Christmas party last weeked. I wasn't up to figuring out how to make a new dish so I purchased a fresh salsa with mixed bell peppers from...
  9. Don't know if this helps or not. We have a Kroger nearby but I went to another regional chain and wrote down the the brands that they carried then looked them up on the web and called a few. Of the ones I was able to get good info. on, Hillshire Farms explained their labeling practices and said they'd clearly state any wheat on labels. I'd feel comfortable...
  10. I was waiting for someone to ask. I liked the Thanksgiving thread too. Just finalized my menue yesterday so here it is. Ham- a country ham because it's natural and gluten free and we moved this year and thought it would be fun to try a local specialty Cranberry Sauce with Orange Green Bean and Butter Bean Salad with Tarragon( a Martha Stewart recipie...
  11. Yes, in fact, it was the "More With Less" cookbook. They call this "Pizza Rice Casserole"
  12. I just wanted to share this recipie. I tried to make gluten free lasagne but my family ate one piece each and left me with a whole pan of leftovers( I didn't really care for the texture so it was a shameful waste), so I'm going back to this recipie. I like it better. It comes from a Mennonite cookbook. Lasagne Rice Casserole serves 6 325 degrees ...
  13. Thanks to all for your replys. They gave me the boost I needed to dig a little deeper and I found some recipies for Quinoa that I'd like to try, in addition to your suggestions. I was feeling a little burned out from info. overload, reading labels and generally everything involved with preparing three meals a day, 7 days a week. I've also been feeling...
  14. I don't want to but in and detract from the topic at hand, but I read this and reached up and felt mine. I swear it's barely noticeable. What's going on? I remember thinking in recent years that it was awefully deep, more than I had remembered it to be in past years. But as soon as I thought it I dismissed the thought. If you hadn't mentioned it I'd think...
  15. I love the peppermint bark sold by Williams Sonoma. It would make it seem a little more like Christmas for me so I called and inquired about the ingredients. The customer service rep. was very nice and read the label to me. It was pretty detailed and clear listing all the ingredients in each part of the product and even mentioned possible allergens in...
  16. Here I am again. I was thinking things over and couldn't sleep and had a thought. When we lived in LA my husband's primary care physician was a Gastroenterologist(Hubby's father is a Dr. but different specialty and these two Dr.'s graduated from same medical school in JPN) Ohara sensei is his name and he is the one who first mentioned Celiac Disease to...
  17. Thank you for the info. about the dashi. That gives me alot of hope. Can I ask what brand it is that you use?
  18. Please update us as you find out how to live gluten-free in Japan. I will try to do the same. I am an American married to a Japanese man. We are currently living in the U.S. We used to eat alot of Japanese food, at times almost all Japanese. I cooked it at home alot. But since starting on a gluten free diet I've eliminated it for now. One cuisine is...
  19. If you need to half and egg, beat it gently, measure the total amout of beaten egg then measure out half that amount. For recipies that need less precision you can eyeball the amount. I do this regularly with good results. For baked goods where you want to use half an egg, you may be able to use just the white. The white helps with leavening where as...
  20. Thank you for the reply. This sounds really yummy and just what I'm looking for. I'd also welcome any suggestions for dishes that are also dense in nuts, seeds or raw veggies.
  21. How do I get whole grains back into my diet? I'm eating Bob's Red Mill Mighty Tasty Hot cereal now. I was a big granola eater at breakfast pre-gluten free. Anyone have any really good recipies? I have brown rice but would like to make it some other way than plain steamed. Any recipies for other grains or salads with grains?
  22. Glad to hear that things seem to be balancing out now. I'll echo what was said earlier. I had gestational diabetes and the things you mentioned could fall into that category. While I don't have diabetes right now, I still feel that I occasionallly have blood sugar issues. Especially when I don't get enough protein or end up eating too may products based...
  23. Before I was gluten-free and before I found out about Celiac's I depended on Chamomile tea in the mornings. It was all I could get down for braekfast for two years. I swear by it. It really helps me. Even still when I slip up and have problems. Sometimes I add a little honey and or lemon depending on my mood.
  24. My husband is Japanese so I'm a little biased and like our Panasonic that we've had for over a decade. If your looking for a Japanese brand rice cooker, buy at an asian market. Especially in the major cities, they are cheaper there than from American stores. The Japanese ones come in different sizes and have different settings for quick cook and types...
