  1. Sorry to dissapoint you but Rye is not safe for celiacs. It is on our list of forbidden foods. You can click on Site Index at the top left of your screen and then Safe/Forbidden Foods for a comprehensive list.
  2. We buy a mixed pepper salsa that has all colors of bell peppers. For pasta I often saute diced butternut squash and when it is brown and aldente add some sage, nutmeg, lots garlic salt and pepper and toss it with the pasta. This is the basic idea. I have an actual recipie that I got from Food Network-Rachel Ray.
  3. Thanks for the input. I never thought of using almond butter but that would be good for a change. Would you bake them as per flourless PB cookie recipie? Same temp and time?
  4. Thanks everyone for your responses.
  5. Everything you said perfectly described me for many years. For the GI symptoms, mine got better after going gluten-free but I found both before gluten-free and after, that yogurt on a regular basis helped things to work better. For the muscle tension, Mine started after delivery of my son and was severe but I started seeing a chiropractor who did adjustments...
  6. Tutoring can be profitable depending on where you live and can be done in your home or students homes. I've tutored children and housewives in English and given American cooking lessons. It can take a while to build a reputation and collect clients, but it's very rewarding. Many adult students I've encountered just want someone who has the time to listen...
  7. I found a recipie for a Raspberry Mouse Pie with a meringue crust that uses Frambois. It calls for 2Tb. which is enough to add alot of flavor. I have some and would love to be able to use it.
  8. I've never been able to use Tide or powdered laundry detergents(not related to celiac disease as far as I know). I've used All Free and Clear for years and years but have to be careful not to use too much or it doesn't rinse out enough and bothers me. My sister used the new All Free and Clear concentrated in the smaller bottle and it bothers her alot, so...
  9. I just tried Whole Foods frozen pizza crusts. I can't believe I waited this long. They were pretty good. Much cheaper than the Foods by George ones that I've been buying. Eventually I'm going to make my own crusts. So now, I'm ready to become a pizza gourmet. Any pizza gourmet's out there? What are your favorite toppings? I have some homemade spinach...
  10. Welcome. Ask away.
  11. In my opinion, sweet rice flour(mochiko) is just not suitable for breads. I've tried some frozen breads and doughs using it and didn't like the texture. There is one grocery store that offers variety of gluten-free baked goods and I'm greatful for that but the products that I've tried(cookies, banana bread, pies) are much too sweet. I would buy cinnamon...
  12. My mom has been instututionalized since I was a teenager and only recently did they figure out that she can't have gluten. She's had alot of permanent damage and still really suffers so I have a really clear picture of what happens if I didn't stay gluten-free. If I didn't have that it might be harder for me to stay on track, although I really like feeling...
  13. All teas from the Republic of Tea are gluten-free and they have many green teas and decaf teas as well. Not sure about the two together. The Spring Cherry Green Tea is really good and has alot less caffiene than black tea.
  14. I've been trying to get my sister tested for celiac disease because both my mom and I have it and also because sis has unspecified seizure disorder. They've put her through alot of testing and come up with nothing. Sent her home with meds and that's it. She is only 30 but lives like an 80 year old. Has to be careful not to overexert herself or she gets...
  15. Crumbs they are, but tasty ones. I'll sprinkle them on peaches tomorrow. Thanks for the encouragement.
  16. I just made some shortbread cookies with a recipies from"125 Best gluten-free Recipies" by Donna Washburn and Heather Butt. They had rice flour, 3 starches powdered sugar and butter, no gum. I halved the recipie and added a little cranberry orange sugar in the bottom of the measuring cup when I measured the powdered sugar. It said to bake them until set...
  17. Welcome!
  18. I don't really know that's why I asked about it. I haven't had it since going gluten-free and I'm still nervous about adding new things back into my diet. I haven't seen anything suspicious on labels but I'm nervous anyway.
  19. Yum! That's a great idea to add the seasonings on the outside with the butter. I'd say you kicked your grilled cheese up a notch!
  20. If I could make a fruit crisp with gluten-free oats, I'd be in Heaven! I haven't been gluten-free a year yet and don't know if oats are OK for me. I'll have to check into it. Love the Namaste cake too! Thanks for the ideas everyone.
  21. Many of the Newman's Own dressing are gluten-free. I make my own too. Here's the one I use most often. Parmesan Italian Vinagrette 1/2 c. vegetable oil(I often use 1/2 olive oil and 1/2 canola) 1/3 c. white wine vinegar 1Tb. sugar 1/4 -1/2 tsp. oregano 1/4 tsp. celery seed 1 clove garlic, minced 1/4-1/2 tsp.dry mustard(not safe for us but I...
  22. Bread slices toasted on one side, tuna salad with walnuts, bread spread with pesto(my homemade spinach, basil walnut) and fresh baby spinach leaves.

    ARCHIVED New Here

I'm sorry. I hope you weren't offended but my comment. I was just relieved for you and hopeful in thinking that you might be getting answers soon. I know how hard it is to take care of an infant when you're chronically ill. Sorry that you're having such a hard time right now.
  24. I had the symptoms that I highlighted above. I had other symptoms as well that I never would have thought of as symptoms or put together as manifestations of one disease. Check out csaceliacs.org Celias Spru Association for a list of symptoms. I'm sure there's one here too. I was always thin but started gaining weight as my symptoms got worse. My short...
