ARCHIVED Question About Carbs With Dinner
missy'smom replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I understand the breakfast challenge with no eggs. I don't tolerate eggs well. I used to take canned pumpkin and warm it up in a custard cup with "butter" and "milk" and cinnamon etc and have that for breakfast-add your sweetener of choice. Quinoa can be cooked like a hot cereal and cinnamon, apple, raisins etc added to/ cooked with it. I sometimes eat... -
ARCHIVED Question About Carbs With Dinner
missy'smom replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I am wondering if some other carb/grain that is soft and "creamy" in texture would suit your little one? Other grains can be cooked like a porridge. In Japan they serve white rice in a tea broth with salmon. It is a comfort food, a sick-time food, a warming food. Something like that? Other root veggies can be pureed and still be suitable to serve to adults... -
ARCHIVED Question About Carbs With Dinner
missy'smom replied to alex11602's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Generally speaking, a lower carbohydrate diet will keep blood sugar stable for people who have problems with low, highs or both. Even though I have diabetes, I can get low blood sugar as well, without any meds or insulin. I was managed with diet alone for 2 years and did very well with low-carb. You might want to look into Paleo diet. It an be family friendly... -

ARCHIVED Nausea And Unexplained Weight Loss
missy'smom replied to llama3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You're not being annoying. It is good to ask questions, that's how we learn and learning is a good thing. From what I understand the A1C can be a little off base if there is a wide fluctuation in BG, as you mentioned. A perfectly normal A1c is supposed to something like 4.6 and a perfectly normal BG is 83. My son tested at 95, before and after a carby... -

ARCHIVED What's The Scoop On gluten-free Mixes With Soy Cc Statements?
missy'smom replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am allergic to chocolate too... used to eat dairy-free soy free chocolate... Yeah, maybe I will get a miraculous window of opportunity when I have time and energy...you never know, it does happen. It's been high-school application peroid and I am prepping for a hospital visit for a proceedure soon in January so I am feeling overwhelmed and mentally... -

Yeah, I suspect Leaky Gut too. I am going in for an endoscopy and colonoscopy and lots of biopsies to get us some more info to work with and rule out some things and see if we can come up with a plan to gain some ground. For now I am TRYING to rotate foods, but it's hard and the holdays don't help. Not that I can eat much it's just all the busyness and emotion... -
ARCHIVED What's The Scoop On gluten-free Mixes With Soy Cc Statements?
missy'smom replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I was low-carb for 2 years and did bake with almond meal. Then I became allergic, then started having respiratory symptoms...No more nuts for me. Then I was baking with flax but became allergic to that as well haven't tried coconut flour but LC things have too many eggs. I am officially not allergic but seem to be intolerant. There's a clear limit how much... -
So I was in the healthfood store today looking for gluten-free cake mix that doesn't contain tapioca. I am also soy allergic and recently had a problem with The Betty Crocker Bisquick, maybe soy related. I found a few mixes with no tapioca but all of them had soy statements-"may contain soy" with no obvious soy ingredients listed. What's the deal? Are...

missy'smom replied to llama3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
111 is not high but...The problem with any one-time BG check is that it really depends on what you've eaten and when you ate it relative to the test. Any random check of my BG(with no meds or insulin) could produce a number between 74 and close to 300! A narrower range with conscious management Many meter companies will give out free meters, the catch... -
gluten-free MO, you and I can be buddies. I have recently relized that I react to the oil form of some things. I was told that is less common because the oils don't have the proteins but it is possible and I do now. I recently figured out that I react to sunflower. I was reacting to a dressing with the oil in it and Earthbalance which has the lecitin...

ARCHIVED Nausea And Unexplained Weight Loss
missy'smom replied to llama3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
As for the nausea, have you started consuming things frequently or in larger quantity since going gluten-free/CF that you didn't before? I'm just wondering if a new allergy/intolerance has come into the picture. If you were tested for diabetes via a one-time fasting blood sugar value, that is insufficient. I keep saying it here, but I had slow onset type... -
ARCHIVED I Am Wasting Away - Please Help! :(
missy'smom replied to Aly1's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I hear from many that the artificial sweeteners cause GI and other issues. Have you tried stevia? Also there are some flax crackers out there that you could use for breakfast or snack that have lower/minimal impact on blood sugar. Some are pretty much only flax and others have some gluten-free flours added so there is some difference. The pure flax will... -

Unless you are into some athletic things and consuming lots of protein supplements you can't get too much protein. I agree with the other poster that protein powders have sugars and may/may not work for those with blood sugar issues. Juice is definitely a no-no with those who have unstable blood sugar, especially in the morning. Paleo and Mark's Daily... -

I'll share this with you so you don't feel alone. I am 5'1" and under 100 lbs. I lost alot of weight suddenly and had problems with sugar-had an especially hard time after making my own homemade granola bars. I got tested for diabetes and have it. Not the end of the world. I used to weigh close to 95 but dropped down to 77 before dx. Scary! I have some of... -
ARCHIVED Bisquick And Soy Allergy

Pay attention to those symptoms gluten-free MO. Sounds like reaction to me. I am learning the hard way recently with increasing reactions. I had similar but much worse symptoms recently with an exposure to powdered gloves. Almost sent me to the ER. Couple weeks after that I walked into a shoe store and had a dry take your breath away on a cold day kind of... -
ARCHIVED Bisquick And Soy Allergy
missy'smom replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi GFreeMO, I haven't tried bananas since my latex allergy dx. As a diabetic at the time I didn't have insulin so was avoiding them on a blood sugar basis. Now I have insulin but am no so comfortable trying bananas due to the latex allergy. I've decided to avoid the top three cross-reactors-bananas, avacados and kiwi. I was tolerating avacados for a while... -
ARCHIVED Bisquick And Soy Allergy
missy'smom posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried the BC gluten-free Bisquick for the first time yesterday and now this a.m. I woke up with sudden major D. Had some symptoms yesterday as well that gave me flashbacks to glutening-a familiar fatigue that I haven't experienced in a LONG time and other symptoms last night that gave me memories of an ER trip before I was dx with soy allergy but right... -

C-peptide is a useful test Julie. Glad that you have a clearer picture of where your daughter is at so she can get the treatment she needs. I asked for it a few months after dx because I suspected that I had gone undx SO long and wanted to know where I stood. Eventually it was run twice and the results consistantly showed I was very insulin deficient,...

I second what ravenwood and rolling along said. The more data the better ;)And I am one who would agree that the ADA numbers are too high. Too many go undx that way and blood sugar issues are so much more easily managed with early intervention. The docs and I believe that I may have gone undx 10 years! I am officially a type 1, insulin deficient not resistant...

ARCHIVED Casein Or Lactose Intolerance?
missy'smom replied to Pegleg84's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
HI Peggy, I went round and round with this question for a few years of what is it about milk that is bothering me? Is it casein? lactose? some other component? Is is an autoimmune issue? a functional issue? and never got anywhere by looking at symptoms and reading up on it. I recommend that you try some tests. There are a number of them. You can do skin... -
M next suggestion was going to be to switch all your current foods-veg, meat etc. to completely different versions for a week or 2, having very simple pure ingredients and not "dishes" and see if your symptoms disappear. So your docs suggestion sound on track. Good Luck. Hope you get some relief and direction.

I am one who develops new allergies to frequently eaten foods. Not everyone does. For me, I have started a 4 day rotation diet to avoid developing new allergies and manage my current ones. Google allergy rotation diet or the like. I am all for not eliminating any more than you have to. Some people can eat the same day after day and be ok but I have learned...
