  1. Based on studies, NOT gaining weight is odd. 81% of Celiacs gain weight during the first year of being gluten free. Keep in mind that almost all of our special food is high in calories. Our breads, buns and bagels seem higher than most normal stuff. I have found that Kinnickinnick seems closest to normal for calories and fat content. Their...
  2. I have eaten chips with Olestra. I liked them and they didn't bother me. This was before Celiac.
  3. Some of us that didn't lose weight after going gluten free might be interested in a study. It was done in 2006, and showed that 81% of Celiac's going Gluten Free......gain weight!!
  4. You mean like, everything. I love to visit PA, or MD, or GA, or really anywhere. The stores down here carry so little. I get almost everything on line or when traveling. There is a new Kroger that just opened today. They seem to have more. The health food section is larger than any store around here. Maybe if I can get in good with the manager...
  5. War Eagle. What I do, is have my Mom send it to me. They won't ship to AL because it takes too long and they want their stuff eaten or frozen by the time I would get it. Most fresh bakeries will not mail long distance unless they mail it frozen. They don't want you to get a stale product. Can't really blame them. I will have to try...
  6. I love their Chocolate Chip Cookies, banana bread and everything else I have tasted made by them. I also only get their stuff if my Mom sends it or go to visit her and stop by the Gluten Free Source in Dillsburg. YUM!!!
  7. The bread is high. One slice for 170 calories. But even that is okay if you cut calories other places. And it is SO convenient it is hard to pass up. I haven't made mine here yet. But I tasted it at the GIG conference. The company had a table at the exhibit hall. It tasted like bread. Just tasting it made me buy both the white bread and the...
  8. I have the White Bread Mix and the Hamburger Bun mix. Like you said, this is not for everyday. It is expensive and loaded with calories. But you just can not beat the convenience. I don't know if you can order it on Amazon, but the company also sells refills. That way you don't have to buy the molds each time. (Hint: I was told that if it left...
  9. I have to agree with you. Tinkyada is not my favorite. I also thought it was kind of mushy, and yes, I cooked it for the right amount of time with lots of water. I think it tasted like rice. Yes, it is rice pasta, but why go to all the trouble and expense to buy pasta that tastes like rice when you can just make rice. If I really want pasta I use...
  10. I would really think twice, no one hundred times, about planning to retire in Cuba. It is a communist country. You, and everyone else, might also want to remember that when watching a movie that shows something in communist Cuba. Do you really think that Castro would allow you to see what is really happening in his country? There have been numerous reports...
  11. First, everyone should have enough food at home to take with them. Seventy-two hours or 3 days is what is recommended. That said, when I worked at the Red Cross Center for hurricane Katrina, we provided almost anything. I know that we went out and got sugar free stuff the a woman that was diabetic. And when the local restaurants called to see how...
  12. Annatto coloring shouldn't be a problem. Per a google search: Open Original Shared Link
  13. Short answer, yes. Long answer, you will have to check with your administrator to see if they are set up for it. But under law the difference between gluten free food and its regular counterpart is eligible. Many administrators do not want to hassle with the difference and will count the whole cost. Lucky you if they do.
  14. Did a google search. Benadryl gluten. And got the FAQ for Benadryl.
  15. I just went through the Atlanta Airport in June, going to the GIG conference in Richmond. I got a note, from my doctor. It said that I have Celiac, that I am on a medically restricted diet and that I need to bring my own food with ice pack. I put the note in the soft sided lunch pack that had yogurt, cheese, hard boiled eggs and an apple in it. I...
  16. I know this most likely is a dead topic. But....... I order from Schwans all the time. They do not have a Gluten Free list, but will let you know about any product. Just call them and tell they that you are asking about the possible gluten in a product. They will have to transfer you to a "product specialist," I think they are called. They have...
  17. You can claim the difference between gluten-free food and regular as a medical deduction. Medical deductions must be on the long form and also must be over something like 7% of your adjusted gross. Talk to your tax person, or if you do your own, read about medical deductions. Also if you have a flexible spending account, most will allow the difference...
  18. I was just at the GIG conference and heard Dr. Fasano speak. According to him, the vaccine would be for EVERYONE. Even if you already have Celiac, it would be for you. Also, the time frame that he gave was 2-3 years for detoxified grains 5-8 years for Anti-Zonulin Pill 15-20 years for the Vaccine He spent quite a while explaining how the pill...
  19. I am a stay at home home schooling mom. My husband is an Electrical Engineer. He doesn't work for the School, but for a small company. I hear the Vet School is great. Although I also hear it is hard to get into. What else do we do here? Drive to Birmingham and Atlanta to go to Whole Foods.
  20. Nope, I live here full time with my husband and son. I have Celiac and have known since December of 06. There is no group here yet. I am trying to start one.
  21. I am in Auburn. Not Montgomery or Birmingham, but it is Alabama.
  22. I went to Outback for the first time on Saturday, Jan 27. When I asked for the Gluten Free Menu, I got a nod and a smile, "just one minute." I figured that I would get the glassy eyed stare. When I ordered, "side salad, please", I got, "without croutons, of course." I ordered the steak grillers, and she said, " with another side, since the rice...
  23. I use La Choy. In fact, I used it yesterday for dinner. I keep in on hand for an easy dinner with chicken, veggies and rice.
