ARCHIVED Kinnickinnick Hamburger Buns
holiday16 replied to AlysounRI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't know if this could be it, but for me the texture and the fact that it is just way too much starch bothers me. My oldest daughter would say it made her stomach hurt. Our solution was to buy the English Muffins instead which are lighter and cut them into 4 pieces and lightly toast them. The whole family likes that better and it makes the package go... -
ARCHIVED Swiss Miss Hot Chocolate
holiday16 replied to twe0708's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If it helps I've been drinking it every morning for several months with no problems. I'm very sensitive and having something every day if it has gluten in sets off essential tremors and trigeminal neuralgia for me and it hasn't done that. My daughter has also had it many times with no reaction. I've also been using Reddi Whip with no problems. Hope... -
I bought some of their soups recently that did not have any gluten ingredients listed, but since I had not had these particular soups before I looked on the website to see if they said anything about them. It didn't, but I noticed that if I pulled up a label some of them would say gluten free. So, for the same product, the label on the internet would say...

ARCHIVED Bush's Chili Beans
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They said they are not changing the statements yet because there are still so many on the shelf that do have wheat, but if you find a new can without wheat on the label it does not contain gluten. According to the message that was left on my machine by them they reformulated it to make it gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Bush's Chili Beans
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called the company and left a message since it was after hours and they called me back today and left a message on my machine. They said they did remove the wheat from the chili beans to make it gluten free, but have not changed their statements yet since it is so new and there are so many old products still on the shelf that still have wheat listed. ... -
ARCHIVED Bush's Chili Beans
holiday16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I bought a can of this the other day because the label did not list any gluten ingredients. I went to double check on the Bush's website to make sure it was o.k. and it lists it as containing gluten. I couldn't figure from the label what ingredient it could possibly be in so I did some google searches and found labels on-line for the same product and they... -
ARCHIVED If Oats Can Be Cc'ed In The Field And Factory, Why Can't Soy?
holiday16 replied to StacyA's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I believe it can, but at such low levels that for many it is not an issue. I take a soy protein supplement that I was fine with and then had some where I reacted. Because of that I began testing by lot number and found that some have small levels of gluten. I had one where the level was barely detectable (probably about 5 ppm if I had to guess) and if... -
ARCHIVED Edema
holiday16 replied to Wolicki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I can't remember exactly how much I started with, but I know I increased it very gradually. I think maybe 10 mg. and I lost 3 lbs. the first day and then it really slowed down. I've been on it for about 7 months now and have lost 9-10 lbs. so still have maybe 7-10 more to lose? I went up to 15 mg. and then it took me forever to get up to 20 mg, but I'm... -
ARCHIVED Edema
holiday16 replied to Wolicki's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
If it continues to be an issue you may want to look at the possiblity of idiopathic orthostatic edema. It took me 10 years to figure out that is what was wrong with me. There is a yahoo group for this, but it has very little activity. It is helpful though to go back and read old posts. That is where I was able to find a medication that helps this. Would... -
ARCHIVED Great Price On gluten-free Mixes From Betty Crocker
holiday16 posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For anyone military who might be stationed here the mixes were at the commissary for $2.49 each and they did carry all 4. Don't know if other commissaries would have them, but anyone military or w/ access to a commissary may want to check it out. Also found Honey Kix for $1.89 a box and I think Chex are around $2 & I think they have all 5 kinds. ... -
ARCHIVED Penzy's Spices
holiday16 replied to summerteeth's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love them. Their pizza spice is amazing and makes a really good easy pizza sauce. When I asked them about gluten-free they also recommended avoiding their cocoa mixes. Not sure if that has changed since I asked. -
ARCHIVED Ice Cream Cones: Any In Maine, New Hampshire, Or New Brunswick?
holiday16 replied to forester7's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Someone mentioned making your own and I just tried that for the first time recently. My dh gave me a gift certificate to William Sonoma for Christmas so I used it to buy a waffle cone maker. Took a little practice and experimenting, but they came out really well. Kids were thrilled. I've seen cones for sale, but they are always so expensive and this really... -
ARCHIVED Sam's Club
holiday16 replied to daphniela's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Every Sam's is different, but ours is where I buy the cornstarch for my baking. Cheapest way for me to get it. I also bought my baking powder in bulk there because gluten-free baked goods call for so much of it. As far as gluten-free processed foods all I can think of are the Taquitoes (beef) I think DeliMex brand? Also, Seapak shrimp scampi. Ours also... -
I found this on another site: ***The following was received by mail. You must call 1-800-257-8443 to get the most recent copy of this list from Campbell's, as they won't send it by email. The following information was dated "As of February 2009". Note that there are no Campbell's Soups or Pace Picante products that are considered gluten-free.*** I actually...

ARCHIVED In Case Anyone Was Wondering About..
holiday16 replied to Jamie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Found them at our Krogers a bit over a week ago for $4.49 a box. They had all but the chocolate. Not sure why. So far have made the brownies and yellow cake. Brownies taste like the kind you get from a box and were good. I usually make mine from scratch using the Joy of Cooking recipe and a homemade version of Bob's red mill gluten-free flour mix and... -
ARCHIVED Enterolabs Results
holiday16 replied to BigDogz's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Stores Around Cincinnati, Oh?
holiday16 replied to terribeth07's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ditto on Jungle Jim's. I don't know about Cincinnati, but the Krogers here has a wonderful gluten-free section. However, they tore down our old Krogers and build a Kroger Marketplace and that's when they started carrying all the gluten-free foods. They have gradually added more things. Today I was in total shock to come across Glutino pretzels there.... -
I was diagnosed 2 or 3 years ago with borderline low D. I think it was 21. The test has been changed to where that is not considered normal anymore. I just retested last month and it's back down to 35 which is considered normal, but I was having trouble sleeping and pain again. Playing around with it I found I feel best at 80, but without supplementing...

ARCHIVED Neurological Only Problems
holiday16 replied to neurobeard's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not sure how much this will help you, but many of my issues were neuro related. If I have gluten I have issues with coordination, slurring words, word recall and if I accidentally consume even small amounts (like 5ppm) over several days it triggers trigeminal neuralgia and essential tremors. I have had 2 MRI's to check for MS and both were clean. Also... -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Tried Using The Gluten Flow Through Rapid Test
holiday16 replied to holiday16's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have ordered and used the EZ gluten test strips since posting this (I had used the Haven ones before). Unfortunately, the protein drink I want to test overloads the sample. I started using half the amount to test which the company said means I am then testing for 20 ppm and not 10. Seemed to be fine though and it was at least working that way. I... -
ARCHIVED Help! Cornmeal!
holiday16 replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have Aunt Jemima right now and we've had no reaction, but it's not my preferred brand. Glad to see this thread on here. It sounds like Hodgson Mill is o.k. and that's what we used before w/ no problems, but the store stopped carrying it and all I could find was Aunt Jemima. Not a big fan of Quaker either. Guess I'll have to hunt down a store that sells... -
ARCHIVED More Results From Enterolab
holiday16 replied to coldnight's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just wanted to pass on my youngest daughter has the same DQ 2.2 gene you have along w/ a non-celiac gene. She is considered low risk for celiac as far as genetic testing goes, however she reacts more than my son who has the same half gene, but is combined with another that essentially turns it into a full celiac gene. Confusing, but genetic testing shows... -
ARCHIVED Chicken Noodle Soup
holiday16 replied to Juliebove's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I started boiling my noodles separately to keep so much starch from getting into the broth. Can't stand any thickening agent in my chicken soup! I found a recipe that works well to imitate homemade noodles. It's from the Sanderson book for kids (I do add some baking powder though). I cut off chunks and boil them in water w/ chicken bouillon added. I... -
ARCHIVED Best Bread Pans?
holiday16 replied to RiceGuy's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I tried Pyrex and it didn't work well for me. I had two different sizes so a smaller size made no difference. I had metal pans, but they don't work as well either. The best thing I found was a teflon bread pan made by bakers choice that is 8 1/4"X4 1/4". The cast iron sound like a great way to go though. I'll have to look into getting some-I love that... -
ARCHIVED Child With Neg Celiac Blood Work, But Doing Well On Diet.
holiday16 replied to I hate gluten's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Just wanted to encourage you as we were in a similar position. Long story, but it started w/ me finding out that being sick the past 10 years was mostly due to gluten. My youngest dd that we were starting to take in to the Drs. because of digestive issues got so much better when I started cooking gluten-free that without any testing the Drs. all assume...
