  1. We are simply eating more white rice than brown. I like both but husband and daughter prefer the white. She is no longer on the South Beach diet so that's not an issue. I plan to use up our brown and then only buy white. We probably eat more potatoes than rice anyway. And more beans than potatoes. Now my big worry is supplements. What are they...
  2. I'd try a different Dr. My daughter had pre-diabetes. I knew it. She had signs and her A1c indicated it. Her regular Drs. poo pooed it. The Dr. at Childrens agreed with me and so did our Endo. She is on a med for it now and the symptoms have gone away.
  3. Another diabetes symptom. The body is starving because all the cells are coated with sugar and the food can't get in there.
  4. Lentils are high in carbs. I get most of our supplements from Swanson online. We use Dr. Steven Langer's Ultimte 15 Strain with Trace Minerals and FOS. Oh well crud! Let me say now that we *used* to use this. Apparently they do not gaurantee it to be dairy or gluten-free. So lemme look again. *sigh* Always something. Culturelle makes a dairy and...
  5. I got a $5 off coupon in my inbox for a Thanksgiving dinner. I don't know if they always offered gluten-free but they do this year. Won't work for us with our multiple food intolerances and daughter now being vegetarian but... It might be an option for someone here! The meals come refrigerated and you just heat and eat. I don't think the gluten-free...
  6. If you do this kind of diet and you find that it is helping, then you have to avoid all carbs, always. So no, rice is never okay and neither is a sweet on the holiday. But everything I have read about this diet has said that it never works in the long run. But you certainly could cut back on the carbs if you wish. That would be any and all fruit, rice...
  7. Way back before I knew of my egg, dairy and other intolerances, I was a vegetarian. Our family is non tradtional and we often dined out on Thanksgiving. Often Mexican food! But if we did go to my parent's house, the meal was pretty traditional. She did start off with nuts in the shell, and a table with chips and dip. Usually Fritos hot bean dip, Fritos...
  8. Of course it could be a false positive. What sort of test was done on you? I am no expert because I do not have IgE allergies but... And I could be wrong on this... I believe that they can do repeated RAST tests on you at various intervals and if your numbers go down enough, they can do a food challenge there in the office or a hospital to see if you...
  9. That is one class of med that I wish wasn't so commonly prescribed. I was put on them. They gave me heart burn which I never felt before. I had acid reflux but I hadn't felt it. They made me sick to my stomach, bloated and caused other problems like weird dreams and severe migraines. I tried perhaps all but two of them and finally refused to try any...
  10. Daughter and I have food intolerances and they do keep changing. Alas for me, they just keep getting more and more. For her they are lessening! But we were told by a Dr. never to eat the same thing two days in a row and preferably not the same things more than twice a week. That makes it insanely hard for us to eat! I also have gastroparesis so that...
  11. I know I have mentioned this before but I thought I would bring it up again. I once wound up with too many cans of creamed corn. Can't even remember how that came about. So I started putting a layer of creamed corn in casseroles and things. And oddly enough, it worked very well as a cheese sub for many things. Enchilada casserole for instance. Since...
  12. In this state it is a health code violation to bring food into restaurants although they all seem to allow people to do this with baby food. And when my dad was on a diet, an ice cream place allowed my mom to bring in fruit and a special diet shake for him. You can always call in advance if you are unsure. I have had no problems contacting the mom or...
  13. My daughter is 15 now and it has been many years so I can't remember exactly when we stopped doing this. For one thing, she has always hated pizza and for a long time she couldn't have dairy or soy either. So the pizza that I made her left much to be desired. No rice cheese that she could eat in those days. So just a crust with meat because she didn't...
  14. Food is bleh and you really have to watch the salad. They'll put croutons on it even when you remind them not to. And then they'll try to pick them off!
  15. As for the disability, give the names and addresess of any and all Drs. you have seen, even if you don't think it relates. I am lucky. I got it first try but my problems are not the same as yours.
  16. Well... Even though it's not fun for either of you, it is a learning experience! Too bad it's not one for husband. Can't tell you how many people I know who have that attitude. I only wish for them that they would have a food issue and eat something they shouldn't and then get really sick. Then they might know. Or... Maybe not even then. Some people...
  17. Food intolerances can change over time. For me? I just developed more and more of them. I did seem to outgrow dairy for a while but then it came back. Daughter managed to get rid of most of hers though.
  18. My daughter doesn't have celiac but was diagnosed with IgG food allergies aka intolerances at age 6. In her case she was so sick of being sick all the time she was eager to start the diet. She immediately started feeling some better then at the two week mark became so ill that she had to stay home. Same thing happened to me. Apparently the body goes into...
  19. Makes it very frustrating.
  20. Eggs leave me doubled over in pain, then the big D comes. Terrible!
  21. I have seen a variety of specialists over the years. Each one will tell you that they are right and the others are wrong. At least that has been my experience.
  22. Ah, okay. I have tried to look it up and I just keep getting vauge things like that it means something but it never says what.
  23. Some years ago, we were on vacation in PA. I noticed that I seemed to have (sorry, TMI) excess saliva. At the time I was drinking Shasta soda in addition to other diet soda. I remembered my mom's friend saying that Shasta soda gave her excess saliva so she quit drinking it and she stopped having the problem. I stopped drinking it too. The problem went...
  24. I have read 4 Almanacs and they do not agree on our weather but it doesn't look like we'll have a bad winter. I used to love candles but now I don't. Many cause me respiratory problems and they are a fire hazard. I now use battery operated ones. I also have tons of flashlights and battery operated lamps and lanterns. Just got new quilts for daughter...
