  1. thank you for the birthday wish, my wife and kids made it a great day

  2. Hi All; I'll do a proper post later, but I thought that I would pop in and let you know about the most safe method of defending from an intruder into your home. Not a gun or a knife as the intruder could take it away from you and use it on you. So this method is even good to teach your youngest child. In every room of the house put a can of spray...
  3. Bob, Duncan is a beautiful spot!
  4. No, no difference. Depends what part of the world you or your doctor is from.
  5. Welcome to the board ... it's a good place to learn. There are lots of super, helpful people here.
  6. We have mosquitoes, no cockroaches ... Yuck! But have 'stink bugs' that fly ... also known as squash bugs and fir beetles. They are really gross
  7. I think the only history that one can rely on is one's own history with a product. I do not eat Lays because I have had problems with them. I do eat many Kraft products and have never had a problem with one yet. That's not to say that the time won't come when I do react to something with their name on it, but my own history tells me that Kraft does a good...
  8. Hi all! Saturday was a blast at the mall It was pouring rain outside, so everyone came to the mall for something to do. We have a huge store front to work in, and so had an obedience ring and agility ring set up. Also did conformation in the obedience ring. Sheba was awsome! It's not very often she decides to work all day, but when she does she...
  9. Really .. the only way to stay 100% gluten free is to 'live alone, or marry another celiac' grow your own produce, "shoot your own meat and butcher it" and never go out, or have anyone that comes to visit that isn't celiac. Even shopping in the grocery store ... any grocery store, could have flour dust on many products that are naturally gluten free that...
  10. I agree, I'm not eating them either!
  11. I think grey hair is genetic. My mother is Celiac and now at the age of 81, she finally has pure grey hair, but it didn't start going grey until her seventies. Our youngest daughter takes after her other grandmother and had grey hair at 19, she is not Celiac. I'm Celiac and at the age of 61 I am now showing small streaks of grey. My step dad had grey...
  12. Hi Wendy; I haven't had a problem with short bread cookies. Are you using butter or margarine? I always use butter as I think margarine had more water in it which tends to make it a bit thinner . Perhaps try a little less moisture, spoon it in the pan and just shape them with your fingers and put a half a marashino cherry in the middle of each cookie
  13. Actually, maltodextrin is safe in Canada. But yes, always check the labels
  14. Hi all; I'm going to be in Nelson all day tomorrow, so thought I'd better pop in tonight. Liz, that's a shame that you dropped a game, but never mind ... you will do just great, I know it! Do remember to have fun either way! That's the most important. I've put my cute little angel decorating the tree on my avatar. The tree has a string of ...
  15. Hi Melissa, welcome to the forum! Now take a real deep breath and exhale slowly Now I can't help you with what you are or are not allowed on the planes. But if you are in Canada, you can get the restaruant cards through the Canadian Celiac Ass. They have a web site. Other sites have them that you can print off, I believe the Kinnikinnick web site has...
  16. If the pain is on the right side and below the rib cage, it may be gall bladder, but frequently the ultra sound will be just fine and the pain turns out to be the illium. Because of the Celiac digestive system, quite often particles of food will pass through the intestine a little larger than normal and sit in the illium, which causes irritation. This will...
  17. Basically, you need to be eating gluten (I believe the equivalent of 2 slices of gluten bread) for several weeks, ( I was told 6 weeks) before taking the test. If you have been gluten free the tests will likely be negative. It's tough ... if a "papered" diagnosis is not really important, I would just consider myself Celiac and stay gluten free. It really...
  18. Welcome to the forum! You are a super daughter And thank God for chocolate! Maybe that's why a lot of us are chocoholics, it's safe and it's yummy Celiac disease is made much easier by the computer. My first 8 years of diagnosis was without the computer and my diet was extremely limited as I didn't have access to any information or products...
  19. Thanks for this Peter! Sheba has been gluten free for some time now as it's just easier for me as her food is close to the kitchen counters. I feel really bad for the people that this is affecting, both those that have ill pets and the innocent store owners that are trying to sell safe products to their friends, family and customers. This has been and...
  20. I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Canada, most health food herbs etc. are not regulated as to how strong they can be, or how much actual medication you are getting, or even if they are totally gluten free etc. Also note, that the amounts given would be on how well a person is absorbing. It is recommended by my doctor MD & surgeon, who...
  21. Our favourite way to serve it, especially if we had company was to get a fancy crystal glass ... usually one with a stem to make it really special. Put in a bed of lettuce, put the shrimp in, spoon on some rich, yummy shrimp cocktail sauce, put a thin stick of celery on one side and a slice of lemon on the other and serve it like a fancy drink Our kids...
  22. Several Breeds can be genetically prone to epilepsey, including Yorkies and Keeshonds. Our old dog had it and learned to lay down when he felt a seisure coming on. He lived until he was 12 and was quite happy most of the time. Check with your vet, epilepsey can be treated, and the treatment isn't all that expensive. Yes, I heard that CNN said that...
  23. It's the "contamination" of wheat gluten that's causing the problem ... not the wheat gluten itself.
  24. Hi all; I seem to be hitting every second day lately. It's been crazy busy here. Spring time for sure. The Kennel club has numerous things on the go, and we are getting ready to open the golf course up for the season. Hubby is down there now clearing winter downed branches etc. I'm off to print the newsletter in Slocan at 5:00 today. Will take some of them...
  25. It probably can, but then it would not be the great tasting, stick together flour that they have now. It would react just like our non-gluten flours and be fairly dry and crumbly. Basically, it's the toxin 'gluten' that makes it so well loved by the non-Celiac community. For instance, if they took the gluten out of "Smarties" They would then be exactly...
