ARCHIVED Mc Donalds Ff

From the CSA Position paper in the above link: ".....Factors affecting the possibility of there being any residual gluten in the final French fries or hash browns include: -
ARCHIVED So, Did You Hear About M&m's, Snickers, And Oreos
larry mac replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
dd, Thanks for the link. I enjoyed it immensley. It also led me to some other great places. I ranted on China during the pet food crises, and got a lot of grief and anti-US ramblings in return. I tend to forget that even though this forum is made up of mostly American members, there are also people here from all over the world, even France. That... -
ARCHIVED Instant Active Dry Yeast Caused?
larry mac replied to purple's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
Wow. I read the whole thing. Very informative. However, it does go far beyond the scope of simply listing wheat, barley, & rye containing foods. They make many recommendations not strictly based on the actual presence of wheat, barley, & rye. Pretty extreme for a fairly well adjusted Celiac IMO. Of course, such extremism might be needed for those... -
ARCHIVED So, Did You Hear About M&m's, Snickers, And Oreos
larry mac replied to darlindeb25's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
dd, That first link has expired. The other two say there have been no tainted foods from China entering the US. I'm wondering if those M&M's and Snickers were produced overseas or here. I hope it's not the latter 'cause I eat Snickers regularly and M&M's occassionally. Are Celiacs not supposed to? Nobody told me, I'm always the last to know. As... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Make My Stools Firm?
larry mac replied to one more mile's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Chronic D can cause hemorrhoids. Can you tolerate Immodium AD tablets? I take two at the first indication of a serious D episode. And then one after every BM until cleared up, usually only a total of four tablets is needed. best regards, lm -

ARCHIVED Ghirardelli White Chocolate Baking Chips
larry mac replied to Gluten-Free in NYC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
(The following comment is not on Ghirardelli products, rather a more general statement) I don't think we're going to see a "contains gluten" on the packaging unless there is a wheat, barley, or rye ingredient. We might get a "produced in a facility that also processes...." warning if there is a "potential" cross contamination issue. By definition, all... -
ARCHIVED Van's Waffles
larry mac replied to ohsotired's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dear ohsotired, I didn't actually say duh to you, since I didn't quote you or use your name. I indirectly said duh about you, a subtle but important distinction. Having cleared that up, I apologize for making you give me the angry emoticon. At the very least, I should have thrown a happy face in there. Sorry. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Poll- How Many Do Or Don't Eat Distilled Grain Vinegar

ARCHIVED Van's Waffles
larry mac replied to ohsotired's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My opinion. They are exactly like gluten store bought frozen waffles. Light & crispy (if you follow the directions and cook them properly, if it says put directly on rack, then that means don't put them on a cookie sheet, duh) nothings. Something hot & edible to put butter, syrup, honey, agave nectar, peanut butter, jelly, cream cheese, chocolate... -
ARCHIVED Poll- How Many Do Or Don't Eat Distilled Grain Vinegar
larry mac replied to fedora's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vinegar, any kind. No problem. Never think twice about it. As far as I'm concerned, it's gluten-free. It's in my nacho slices, hot sauces, wing sauces, numerous other condiments. I eat nachos (made on Tostidos) every day, and hot wings every other day. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED What Are Some Good Gluten Free Pets?
larry mac replied to Guhlia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Guhlia, Who is the celiac, you or your daughter? And does this pet also need to eat casein/soy/corn/rice/nut/egg/apple free food? best regards, lm -
Found another taco seasoning. Food Club brand. No wheat in the ingredients. I got it at Brookshires, but it's sold at a number of chains. best regards, lm

ARCHIVED Mexican Food, I Though It Was Safe?
larry mac replied to lostinHI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
".......***If the 2nd and 3rd numbers in the series of numbers is either 71 or 45 they have been made in the plant with flour."...... That is a bonafide piece of real information all right. Now I'll have to check the numbers on my bags. Thank you. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Mexican Food, I Though It Was Safe?
larry mac replied to lostinHI's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
NorthernElf, I'm very interested in knowing what you base the statement that "Tostidos....have a relatively high chance of cross contamination". Would that be an intimate knowledge of the manufacturing processes in the Tostidos plant? A scientific study? A poll of Celiacs that have been sickened by Tostidos? I'm not doubting that you believe you've... -
Of course. You go to the store, read the label on the cheese dip, and if it doesn't say wheat it's gluten-free. I've tried several, all very inferior to home made IMO. At least once a week, I take a break from my usual staple of homemade nachos, and make some queso. I start with Velveeta, add some sharp cheddar cheese, chopped jalepeno nacho slices, my...

ARCHIVED Hellman's Mayo
larry mac replied to hafadai43's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Have you actually used the Kroger white vinegar and had a reaction? If not, what vinegars containing grains other than corn have you had a problem with? -
Please note the absence of beef & cheese or chicken & cheese "Taquitos". I have yet to find any brand that does not have flour in the cheese. best regards, lm

Cheese nachos should be a fairly safe bet at a mexican restaurant. I've eaten chicken and fajita beef nachos before, but the risk would be if the fajita seasoning contains flour, similar to taco seasoning. best regards, lm

OK Beth. I dug up one of my recent posts on this topic. I make tacos a lot, and have searched high & low for wheat-less mixes. best regards, lm -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've found quite a few good ones. ARCHIVED Quaker Crispy Mini's
larry mac replied to Salem's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had some very minor problems eating Quaker chips (slight D). The funny thing is, I ate instant Quaker oatmeal for quite a while with no problems before I gave up instant oatmeal on general purposes (the supposed CC oats issue). Plus, it's not winter here in Texas, and oatmeal is a winter thing for me. best regards, lm -
ARCHIVED Nacho Cheese
larry mac replied to jlbroyles23's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
A quick search on google confirmed what I already knew. Cheese sauce, including nacho cheese sauce, typically contains flour as a thickening agent and/or filler. I've also discovered that "queso", whether in a bowl as an appetizer, or on a dish such as enchiladas with queso sauce, contains flour. The cheese in cheese enchiladas may not. But the chile con... -
ARCHIVED About Those Rice Chex...
larry mac replied to Beth in NC's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm sorry Rya. After re-reading my post, it's apparent I was somewhat abrupt and insensitive. I was not trying to imply that you may have an eating disorder or anything like that. I was simply questioning the fairness of blaming the Rice Chex based on your stated diet that day. Actually, when I read about the margaritas, jalepeno potato chips, and Rice...
