  1. I've been using it for over two years now. I switched from the regular malted Ovalteen, which I had used for decades, to the non-malted kind, when I got diagnosed. Never once have I had a reaction, nor did it impair my quick recovery. I'd be willing to bet they've always been made on shared lines. Makes perfect sense. Two products, almost identical ingredients...
  2. Happy birthday from me too. And Pheobe Buffay and Penny Lane. best regards, lm
  3. Hey Belle, You know what they said on Seinfeld about an enigma? It's a mystery wrapped in a riddle! best regards, lm
  4. I really don't see anything wrong with they're response. It doesn't offend me, or hurt my feelings. But it does tell me what I need to know. It say's read the ingredients. If there are no wheat ingredients, then it will be OK. They clearly say they will list gluten containing ingredients (as defined by the FDA). It's very straightforward. If you can't...
  5. It's unfortunate that you are super sensitive. Of course CC will happen. But not all the time, equally, with all products made in a facility that also processes wheat products. That would be just as silly to believe. best regards, lm
  6. I'm extremely relieved to hear that. I'm going to Tequila for nine days at the end of the month and was worried about getting sick. Good for you. best regards, lm
  7. Hey TM, I've heard of potato and corn soup (and/or chowder), but not with spinach. I love all three things, and that really sounds interesting. Would you mind please sharing your recipe? Thanks. best regards, lm
  8. I eat plain boil-n-bag rice, various brands, without problems. Also cheetos. If I had to choose, I'd pick the cheetos. I don't worry about the "shared lines thing". So far, it's worked out for me. Then again, I'm not the mother of a five year old celiac. best regards, lm
  9. I've tried just about every brand of corn tortilla I've seen. Haven't had a problem so far. best regards, lm
  10. Thank you, yes. That's Phoebe Buffay. We have a new one too, Penny Lane, and there's a story. My wife almost ran over two mini-Schnauzers on our street one morning. Worried they would get killed, I put them in the back yard. No tags or collars. They were ungroomed and dirty. I notified Animal Control, but no one reported them missing. That night, fearing...
  11. I'd never heard of this "Ceasars" you speak of. But, after googling it, I see it's almost exactly the same as a bloody mary. Always wondered what the heck that Clamato juice was for. I wouldn't want to give anyone advise. But if it was me, I'd try it. best regards, lm
  12. Yikes! Got suckered in again. You'd think one would learn after a few years. I was reading the thread from the beginning when I got to my own post. Surprise! Hey Zella, You really are a chocolate lover. best regards, lm
  13. I got a can of it and used it for a while after I was first diagnosed. I couldn't tell anything one way or the other. I did have an exceptionally speedy recovery however. I think body builders use that stuff, and a lot of amino acids. best regards and a speedy recovery, lm
  14. Happy belated birthday from me too! best regards, lm
  15. Yes, I've used it for fried shrimp, bass, & catfish. It's very good. I don't consider it spicy at all, but then again, I also make my own salsa. And I like it fairly hot. If you are wussy about the spices, get the unseasoned one. They make two kinds. I think the unseasoned kind is just corn meal and corn flour. Good luck & good eatin. best...
  16. Without specifics it's difficult to say. What kind of restaurants? What kind of dishes? Sour cream contains no wheat. So I don't know why they would say such a thing for sour cream on a baked potato, or a taco/tostado. As for sour cream chicken enchiladas (even with a corn tortilla), every tex mex restaraunt I've asked has said it contains wheat flour...
  17. I've never tried guar gum alone, but I use half and half and didn't see any difference from zanthan gum alone. Many gluten-free bakers use guar gum. I wonder if you got some bad guar gum or something. best regards, lm
  18. I like to find out if any items have wheat listed as an ingredient, observe the employees preparing the food, and then make a decision as to whether the food might be safe to eat. According to the website MG provided, the crunchy tacos, tostadas, pintos & cheese, and the rice do not contain wheat. That would indicate the beef filling in the tacos are...
  19. I believe it is theoretically safe if the obvious cross contamination prevention measures are followed. Having said that, please let me tell my oven story. I've been gluten-free for two years. My wife has her gluten pop-up toaster. I have my convection toaster oven. Far as I know, she's never used mine (she prefers pop-up toast anyway, so it's always worked...
  20. Absolutely not. Xanthan gum is a very common thickener used in many, many food items. Just about every food product that's thickened (without using wheat flour as the thickener) has xanthan gum, guar gum, or often both. Ice cream, salad dressings, and mayonaise for instance. best regards, lm
  21. I think the Atkin's Diet popularized bunless meats for us. I've never noticed any surprise when ordering a cheeseburger without bun. Also, they will usually automatically build it on a bed of lettuce. Some burger places actually have "Atkin's burgers", and "Atkin's hotdogs" on the menu. best regards, lm p.s., Thank's to the dog poop burger...
  22. I'm decreasing my Coke consumption - and increasing my margarita consumption! best regards, lm
  23. Something that occurred to me. When one eats, or drinks out, one subjects oneself to unknown variables, as relates to gluten, and other potential reactions. Perhaps it would be enlightening to stay home and conduct these drinking tests under more controlled conditions. ie., in your own gluten-free kitchen, using your own glassware, eating food you prepare...
  24. Yes, 100% agave tequila are generally better than "mixto's". However, non-100% agave tequila's are at least 51% agave, with the other 49% derived from cane sugar. So, if you can tolerate rum (which is 100% fermented cane sugar) you should be able to tolerate non-100% agave tequila's. Please note, the non-100% agave tequila's can contain additive's such...
  25. I eat a McD burger occassionally with no problems. But I always watch them make it, just in case they forget, put it on a bun, and then take it off. I seriously doubt that they are lying about the meat being 100% beef (ie. no fillers). Can't say about the salads, as I rarely eat salads. Eat the fries probably once a week. best regards, lm
