  1. As a teen, I read all of Heinleins stuff. He was my favorite author. My all time favorite books: ~ Tunnel in the Sky, Robert Heinlein ~ Earthblood, Keith Laumer & Rosel George Brown ~ Watchers of the Dark, Lloyd Biggle Jr ~ Galactic Odyssey, Keith Laumer ~ The Talisman, Stephan King The first four were during my "formative" years...
  2. From first post: "Crescent Rolls 1/2 stick butter ( 1/4c) room temp. 3/4 c. small curd cottage cheese 1 c. gluten-free flour mix ( rice, potato starch, tapicoa ) 1 tsp. xanthan gum 1/8 tsp salt 1/4 tsp cream of tartar 1/2 tsp baking soda 1 TBSP sugar" Regarding small curd cottage cheese. I tried a recipe using this recipe and couldn't get the...
  3. OK, so here's a post over three years old (I see Rice Guy was in rare form ). I was craving hot wings because of the Frank's Hot Wing Sauce thread and conducted a search. I must admit to a rare lapse of judgement, but a while back I ordered some pizza , cheezy bread, and hot wings for a family get-together we were having. I feel it is my duty to feed...
  4. Hope you have better luck than I did. We have several large asian supermarkets, yet I haven't found any gluten-free soy sauces. They do have lots of strange brands however. I recommend health food and large gourmet food stores. Please do try to find Eden Organic Tamari Soy Sauce. best regards, lm I've heard that not everyone can taste...
  5. Yes. Get rid of the D and most likely it will go away. When I occasionally get D, I immediately take two Immodium AD's (or Walmarts brand). Followed by one after every meal, until I'm back to normal. Be careful not to overdo it, or as Debmidge said the C will definately aggravate it. best regards, lm
  6. Sue, That's a very unusual recipe. I've never seen a gluten-free recipe call for that much soy flour. Plus, no starch flour either. best regards, lm Jenny, I also agree about the need for additional flour. And I put the metal mixing bowl in the fridge for a while, and between batches. best regards, lm
  7. Emily, My first was Stinger, really got me hooked. Read several other selections, Night Boat, Wolf's Hour, (all the others I would call action horror) all very good. And then read Boy's Life. It amazed me how he could write something so different such as that, and Gone South which followed. best regards, lm
  8. Always hesitate to say for sure for anyone else, but ate some this morning, have eaten it many times and never had a problem. Love the whips. They're light and airy. Never ate yogurt in my whole life, till I got stomach problems and tried whips. Also, I haven't had a problem with caramel colors either. best regards, lm
  9. JNB1, Agreed, he's got some classics. I haven't read any of his books in years, but read all of his earlier works. Midnight and Twilight Eyes will scare the hell out of you, and/or seriously creep you out. Lightening, The Bad Place, Watchers are all great. May I recommend you try Robert R. McCammon. A little of Stephan King and Dean Koontz. best...
  10. That was fabulous when it first came out. Released in serial form in six parts. About every three weeks and only $2.99 each. Not a horror book, but with a little supernatural aspect. The movie, also spectactular, directed by Frank Darabount, who also directed the Shawshank Redemption. Based on a story by Stephen King, without any horror or supernatural content...
  11. That sounds like fun all right. I love Meyer lemons, they are expensive though. Also, our Central Market sometimes has Valley Limes (I'm assuming Texas valley that borders Mexico). They look like lemons on the outside but crazy good limes on the inside. I'm sipping some Caravella limonsello Originale d 'Italia at the moment. OK, so I went and poured...
  12. Up Country, by Nelson DeMille. This is a little of both (or evertything). I really enjoyed it and my Mother loves it too. First book I actually finished in years. It's a sequal to The General's Daughter. best regards, lm couple editorial reviews: from a,m,a,z,o,n,.,c,o,m (not lame advertisement) In Up Country, Nelson DeMille cannily revives...
  13. I may try those as well. Cleaning a crock pot is a PITA! First you have to let it soak with hot, soapy water. And then ya have to scrub like crazy. Would those be in the aluminum foil section of the grocery store? best regards, lm
  14. After further googling, I discovered that Tarantula "blue" Tequila was produced in Italy in the past, but no longer. As I posted earlier, 100% agave tequilas can only be produced and bottled in Mexico, and are subject to strict regulatuions regarding additives. Mixtos, such as Tarantula, can be bulk exported to other countries, adulterated, and bottled there...
  15. I beg to differ. All "tequilas" are indeed made in Mexico. If a tequila is not made in Mexico, it is not allowed to be called tequila. It is an agreed upon international law. Same as Champagne, or rougeford cheese. You may be referring to the blue Tarantula product. But, I'm looking at a bottle of Original Tarantula Reposado, Fine Agave Tequila (which may...
  16. There are worse tequilas than Cuervo Gold, but not many. Stick to 100% agave tequila and you won't have to worry about additives such as caramel. 100% agave tequila aquires it's color from being aged in wooden barrels. Cuervo makes one called Cuervo Traditional. It's not that great, but much better than Cuervo Gold. Here in the Dallas/ Fort Worth area there...
  17. I've always heard Florida has some of the worst water. Something about the shallow water table? best regards, lm
  18. Yes, but no ones proposed what could be done about it. Did you notice that most well water and bottled water was affected also? I hope I'm getting my fair share of everyone's anti-anxiety meds. I need all I can get. Plus, I'm trying to cut back on water anyway and drink more margaritas. best regards, lm
  19. I just threw that out there, but you know more about it than I do. I've never had the occasion to drink "wild" water. Never been backpacking or anywhere that remote. That UV sterilizer pen is got to be the coolest thing I've ever seen. And it's only $80, amazing. Some of our newer wastewater treatment plants use UV. Large banks of huge blacklights kill micro...
  20. You are right about the regulations. Wells can't provide enough to supply tens of millions of people. So lakes are constructed. Surface water and sub-surface water supplies are completely different scenarios. There is pee & poop in lakes. From fish & animals. From all the runoff in creeks & streams (more animals in those woods). And from wastewater...
  21. I second that. I miss my Hooters wings. It's nice you are thinking of making his birthday special. My wife once took me to Hooters for Valentines Day. We never forget stuff like that. best regards, lm
  22. Thanks Julie, I miss my chicken & dumplings. I'm sure that one is good, but I think I'll just stick to my regular recipe but obviously substitute the gluten-free dumplings. Interesting cookie recipe. Not much flour, and coconut flour at that. I guess I need to get some of that. best regards, lm
  23. I lived in the country for 15 years. We had well water supplied by a small water company. Pathetic water pressure. Extremely high mineral content, what's called hard water. And who knows how much septic tank and other polutants seeping through the ground. best regards, lm
  24. Have you tried using filters? Most bottled water starts out as municipal tap water. Then there's the plasticizer chemicals that leach out of the bottles. The billions of bottles going in the landfills. And the oil and energy thats used to manufacture and transport the bottles. best regards, lm
  25. The chlorine must be there in suficient quantity to prevent bacteria from growing. It is mandated and regulated by the state. It would be unsafe otherwise. Most of tap waters unpleasant taste is from the chorine. I have a filter in my fridge that removes it. Makes the ice taste better also. There are other natural minerals also, this is lake water after...
