ARCHIVED Gene Testing Results
nora-n replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
This means alpha chain 05* and beta chain 02*, same answer as mina above, this is DQ2,5 cis or trans, and they did not test all the way, just enough to tell if there was some kind of DQ2,5. So now that you know your mother -
ARCHIVED Gene Testing Results
nora-n replied to bincongo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Aboutthe weird results, I think I understand what happened. They just tested for the presence of 05* and 02*. The 02 in the beta chain may mean either DQ2,5 (which has 05* in the alpha chain) (and ther are two forms of DQ2,5, the cis and the trans, and the latter is made from DQ7,5 (shich has a 05* alpha chain) and DQ2,2) or DQ2,2 which has 02 in... -
ARCHIVED Gi Specialist Says It's Not Celiac
nora-n replied to Melstar23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yopu have a celiac gene, and got better after going gluten free. Of course the blood tests went negative after going gluten free. some people in circumstances like this get tested by Enterolab, privately. Teier tests are very sensitive, but they cannot diagnose celiac, just gluten sensitivity. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Result Show "unlikely For Celiac"
nora-n replied to CrazyforCandles's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, DH= celiac, end of story. By the way, with DH you ahve ttg-3 antibodies and these do not show up on the ttg-2 blood tests. With gluten ataxia, one has ttg-6 antibodies and they have no routine tests for that either. the tests are not perfect. The blood test you list here, total IgA, is NOT a celiac test. It is just a total IgA test. Nothing... -
ARCHIVED 16 Month Old, Negative Blood Test
nora-n replied to Briana's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Antibodies are not so accurate with small children. That is because their immune system is not so developed yet. So it is important to run several different tests so maybe one will be positive. They have no special reference ranges for children, by the way. I was thinking, this child is very young, and it would maybe be wise to wait for a month or... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism - Reaction To Levothyroxin Pills
nora-n replied to Pac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
About good thyroid forums, i recommend the one by Mary Shomon, at Open Original Shared Link . There is a tiny red link my forums there. It used to be in delphiforums but about.com changed formats for all its forums, but ther still are links from the delphi celaic forum to the about.com thyroid forum in related forums for example. The people are mostly from... -
ARCHIVED Hypothyroidism - Reaction To Levothyroxin Pills
nora-n replied to Pac's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I have been on the thyroid forums for years, and it is very common to have over-dosing symptoms in the first three-four days. This is because your own thyroid still makes some t4 and t3 (as your thyroid hormone numbers are still within range) and now you take some of the same hormones on top of that. What will happen is that the pituitary is sensing... -
ARCHIVED 16 Month Old, Negative Blood Test
nora-n replied to Briana's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
What blood tests were done? Maybe they only did the IgA tests, and with small children the total IgA is low so there is a false negative, or maybe they did the wrong tests? Maybe just ask for a biopsy, since even with adults 20% have negative blood work. nora -
ARCHIVED 3 + Biopsies, - Blood Test. Confused
nora-n replied to lorid888's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is teh biopsy that is the official test, not the blood test. And, it is known that when blood testing freshly diagnosed celiacs (by biopsy), then 20% of them will have negative blood tests. so the nurse is wrong. -
ARCHIVED A Wondering Medical Student
nora-n replied to BlueMerlin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The reason that reactions are much stronger after going gluten-free, is "freshly activated T cells". They are actually researching this for a possible celiac test. Only celiacs have these freshly activated T cells. One must be gluten free for at least one week and then consume gluten, in order to trigger them. -
ARCHIVED Doctor Tells Me I Need To Eat Gluten For 15 Days!
nora-n replied to celiaco's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
no way 15 days is gonna be enough. The least I find in literature, is 6 weeks, and we know it is more like 3 months before tests turn positive, could even be 6 months or even more. -
I react to glucose from wheat, but the celiac societies in Sweden and Norway list that as gluten free. There are differences in sensitivity. Most celiacs here say they tolerate 20-100ppm gluten. nora

ARCHIVED Here's What My Dr. Says About Celiac Panel Tests
nora-n replied to orangez28cam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I find these test results very interesting . Up until now they trusted the ttg IgA test very very much, but it is negative in your case, and the deamidated gliadin IgA is strongly positive. Interesting. -
ARCHIVED Low Iga Serum Level In Child
nora-n replied to pumpkin65's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
DQ2,5 is the most common gene found with celiacs, but many non-celiacs have DQ2 too. I would really suspect celiac with these genes and symptoms. The celiac tests are not so accurate after five weeks off gluten, but could still be positive now. alopecia is autoimmune, thyroid is, and the exzema probably too. gluten is known to trigger antibodies... -
ARCHIVED Been Told I Just Have "gluten Intolerance"
nora-n replied to Melstar23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My iron (ferritin) levels went up to 100 after giong gluten free, what is the doctor talking about?? It is not easy to get a diagnosis after haveing been off gluten. I am in europe, and here we usually go back on gluten to get the diagnosis. You have DQ2 or DQ8 and it is probable you will have a positive biopsy if you go badk on gluten before the biopsy... -
ARCHIVED Scheduled For Testing At Private Hospital
nora-n replied to healthy-000's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Tests will be not so clear if you go gluten free before the test. Did you tell them? And, what blood tests did you have, and when? I have no diagnosis either, and my tests were negative, and I ate very little gluten before I got sick, and was low-carb when I noticed I reacted to gluten and milk when I had some when we went to family meetings. -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Results - Any Insight?
nora-n replied to Courtney101's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One is the total IgA, the other is gliadin IgG, a not so specific test, and another is the tissue transglutaminase IgG. You lack the endomysium test, and the deamidated gliadin test. And, the biopsy. Lots of biopsy proven celiacs are negative on blood tests, at least 10-20%. -
ARCHIVED Test Results-Elevated Anti Gliadin
nora-n replied to suzanne*'s topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you sure it was not the new deamidated gliadin test, which some labs call gliadin antibody test? I have seen that some labs do that now. So the testsw can be confused with the very old gliadin antibldy test, which is not so specific for celiac, and only catches about 60% of biopsy proven celiacs if they send blood to labs. The ttg test is much better... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Confusion! Please Help1
nora-n replied to orangez28cam's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, this new test (deamidated gliadin) is supposed to be a very good test for celiac, and many labs have started using this one as the preferred test for celiac now. Interesting that the other tests were negative/weakly positive. It shows that they cannot rule out ceiac with just a negative test, and that just running the old ttg test is not good enough... -
ARCHIVED Questions About A Loved One
nora-n replied to Dixiebell's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
One might have to start off eating gluten free items slowly, as theya re full of starches, and the enzymes to digest starches are made at the tipp of the villi, which are shortened and damaged at the tip. same for milk, the lactase enzyme is made at the tip ov the villi. And half of the celiacs have problems with milk, but many get better and tolerate... -
ARCHIVED Enterolab Results
nora-n replied to crampy girl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi, you have the main celiac gene, HLA DQ2,5 as it is 0201 in the beta chain. Now only a few of thse with DQ2 are celiacs, but it is about the risk. The high fecal fat score is important here, together with teh symptoms and the antibodies. maybe a normal blood test for tissue transglutaminase will be positive now even though you have been off gluten... -
ARCHIVED Am I Doing This For Nothing?
nora-n replied to tea-and-crumpets's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There are lots of people with negative biopsies and test results that improve dramatically off gluten. The reason the blood tests have so high cutoffs, and the endoscopy was not done with the pill cam (which clearly shows celiac, flattened villi, which is typically found being patchy nowadays), is that in some countries diagnosed celiacs get money from... -
some people recommended some yoga poses that can help. I think there are some postings here on this forum about glutening and yoga, or some other places on the net.

ARCHIVED Gene Test + Family History + Symptoms + Uncooperative Doctors
nora-n replied to PattyBoots's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You can read about celiac and DH at Open Original Shared Link if you are bored and want to read some more... Anyway, DH=celiac so you must go gluten free, diagnosis or not. A DH diagnosis is enough. -
ARCHIVED Gene Test + Family History + Symptoms + Uncooperative Doctors
nora-n replied to PattyBoots's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Have you heard of DH, Dermatitis Herpetiformis, the skin version of celiac? If you have skin next to it biopsied, and a diagnosis, you need to go gluten free anyway, and be very diligently gluten free. DH patients are even more sensitive to gluten than ordinary celiacs. Neuropathy can come from gluten
