ARCHIVED Why Are Dr's Incompetent?
nora-n replied to sariesue's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
some order the gene test from enterolab, and the stool test for antibodies can maybe pick up antibodies to gliadin several months after going gluten-free. Enterolab cannot diagnose celiac, just gluten sensitivity. -
ARCHIVED Sigh...more Questions Than Answers!
nora-n replied to lizzy59's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have two DQ5, and there have been several others here with the wrong genes, and several with half genes. There is no stool test for celiac, but enterolab.com has a stool test for gluten sensitivity and you can order that yourself, together with the HLA DQ test. -
ARCHIVED Frustrated, Met With Allergist
nora-n replied to Metoo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Can the allergist order the deaminated gliadin tests, both IgA and IgG versions? Those are the newest and most specific tests for celiac. Those would only make sense as long as you still eat gluten, so after a couple of weeks or so they might turn negative. You can also order the gene test yourself from enterolab.com and that could shed some light on... -
ARCHIVED Sigh...more Questions Than Answers!
nora-n replied to lizzy59's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is known that cortisone and the like are famous for making the blood tests AND biopsies negative for celiac. They use steroids for those with a severe form of celiac and that often helps. So maybe the immune suppressants can make the signs of celiac more obscure? I do not know. this would be a good question for experts. Those interpreting the... -

there is no IgE test for gluten, only wheat I think But there is a test for gliadin, gliadin Ab IgG that they often do. Was it that one that was positive? -
ARCHIVED Got My Upper Endoscopy Results Back...
nora-n replied to lolololo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
yes it says gastric, and that usually means stomach, so it looks like they biopsied the stomach. The pill cam is known to show celiac clearly, flattened villi, atrophic villi, everything. -
ARCHIVED Colonoscopy And Gluten Test--Negative
nora-n replied to GFsis's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
there is a DH folder here, and you can read other stories there too. DH IS celiac, and a diagnosis of DH means a celiac diagnosis. The antibody responsible is tag-3, so ordinary celiac tests might not pick this up. I am so sorry the dermatologists did not pick this up. -

ARCHIVED Questioning Results...where Do I Go From Here?
nora-n replied to ConfusedInKC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
they ran the deamidatd gliadin IgG test, and it probably would have been elevated in case of celiac and IgA deficiency. My guess is that your gluten intake was below the threshold for the tests to show positive. The celiac tests are designed to only be positive in case of a lot of villi damage. maybe a gene test next? -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Genetics Interpretation
nora-n replied to domesticactivist's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, right now there are heated discussions on facebook , swedish celiacs about glucoses etc. We have had them on norwegian forums too, but not so much about glucose. The majority does seem to tolerate wheat starch and glucose, but the minority, we do not know how many, do not tolerate wheat starch or things that are originated from it. Maltodextrin... -
ARCHIVED What Now? A Little Frustrated...
nora-n replied to Juanitahoy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I must admit I never tried large doses of amitriptyline! But the side effects are noticeable after startup and when one starts up again. I read on an pain forum too, and several people there have good help from amitriptyline. And some fibromyalgia patients. Both of these groups are typically on larger doses. -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Genetics Interpretation
nora-n replied to domesticactivist's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Yes, several people have posted they had to get the full results themselves! I was just thinking, we have these huge discussions in Northern Europe on the celiac boards and celiac facebook pages about difference in sensitivity (wheat starch vs food not originally made from wheat, typically glucose and other sugars also bother the sensitive glunten intolerant... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Genetics Interpretation
nora-n replied to domesticactivist's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It is interesting to follow gene test results over time. Some years ago they usually only did the beta chains, then Dr. Lewey contacted labs to get them to test alpha chains since he had two patients who were positive on biopsies and symptoms, but negative beta chains. He suspected they had half a gene (which is usually 05* in alpha) Now we see that... -

Amitriptyline--you have to keep taking it, then the sleepiness should go away after a while. If you start and stop and start again all the time you get sleepy. -

ARCHIVED Another Thread About Refractory Sprue
nora-n replied to CNV2855's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
no, it just looks like you also have ttg-6 antibodies (because of neurological symptoms) too and allergy to corn and maybe other food intolerances. Or Lyme disease, or something else. What do the alternative practitioners say? They can be spot on. There are also some gluten sensitivity forums where those who are very sensitive and have neuro issues from... -
ARCHIVED Seriously? Gluten In The Drywall?
nora-n replied to pricklypear1971's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I am in Europe, and we very sensitive celiacs and DH sufferers definitely get sick from wheat starch! Especially those with DH. -
too much starch I think. When your villi are damaged, the enzymes to digest sugars and starches cannot be made since they are made at the tips of the villi. Check out the emergency suggesteions at scd diet (cooking a pot of chicken broth) for example (scd was the old form of celiac diet before the celiac diet was rediscovered by doctors, and it worked...

ARCHIVED Worth Looking Into Celiac?
nora-n replied to pinkcloud's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Could be celiac or gluten sensitivity. what "auto-immunity"-tests did your ob/gyn run? The food intolerance test, was it IgG antibodies? The normal tests for celiac are: tissue transglutaminase IgA Endomysium Ab deaminated gliadin IgA total IgA to check if IgA type tests are valid Also, b-12 and vitamin D and ferritin tend to be lowish... -

ARCHIVED Son's Test Results
nora-n replied to austinmeg3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I would suggest maybe the new and more sensitive deaminated gliadin IgG test. Celiac tests are known to be not so sensitive in early celiac.
