  1. that was just full of contradictions! Yeah, otherwise one gets fatty liver, etc...Duh.
  2. interesting. Cotochondritis is also connected to hypothyroid, which in turn is connected to celiac.
  3. the 3 different letter names, were they : ttg AGA EMA DGP ?
  4. another thing, the person looking at the slides might have not looked close enough. There are a lot more subtle changes going on with low-grade celiac other than total villous atrophy... And there is special staining for showing IEL, and more than 2.3 on each villi tip is celiac now, maybe they did not do that. We have also heard from people that after...
  5. I remember the abstracts that said anywhere from 6 weeks to several years, must find it. You had one with five weeks here, that is the shortest time I have seen. (and that is children)
  6. "but he's found that fully 40% of people who show up in his office test positive for celiac" Good!
  7. about 2% have other genes! I have also posted on this here on other threads.
  8. About the 0,3 grams and 0,5 grams of gluten for a gluten challenge, maybe I have that on google bookmarks, maybe not, but a seach on pubmed would maybe give some results. There also was an article on celaic.com on gluten challenge. The problem is that often doctors say two slices of bread a day, which is way too little in adults. It is probably right...
  9. interesting about the full report. Here in Norway (and Sweden) they still only tell you if you are positive or negative for DQ2 or 8, so I had to order the test via Enterolab. This is so expensive because it costs so much extra from europe for special shipping. I guess ordinary mail would do, but I am not sure.
  10. there are w few articles out there where they list celiaics with other genes! I guess I have posted some here over the years. I have not posted the dutch one here I think. (try a search) I am a bit interested in the subject since I have two DQ5. (only beta chains tested)
  11. yes you cannot just take out the noodles. A scenario like this can happen in restaurants where they sometimes use the broth in some other dishes...or cook gluten-free pasta in the broth from gluten pasta.
  12. if you want to look for the forums where some DQ1 are, it is the gluten sensitivity folder on braintalk and same on neurotalk, and the glutenfree and beyond forum. The subject on celiac and other genes has been discussed several times here. One member (who had half a gene) had access to some publications and listed the other genes that were listed...
  13. the EMA (endomysium) test is 100% specific for celiac, but that is an expensive manual test involving electron microscope and immunoflourescese. In your case, the deaminated gliadin IgG test might be perfect to test, since that one is 99% specific for celiac. It is a new standard test that has replaced the ttg test in several hospital labs. Just keep...
  14. that was the article on sardinian or something celiacs with DQ7, and they probably meant DQ7,5. Of course it is the 0505 alpha chain that is the celiac gene. By the way, 23andme only tests for 0501 alpha chain for celiac risk. I do not know if it is 0501 or 05* they test for.
  15. I see you are DQ2,2 which is also a celiac gene, and int eh old days they did not discriminate between DQ2,5 and DQ2,2....just that 2,2 is less celiac prone. I see you also are DQ1, it is the DQ6 . There are some other forums, and there are several DQ1 there and they can be much more gluten sensitive than DQ2,5, they tend do react to even smaller amounts...
  16. Can you eat bread at work, or do you not work outside the house? For a gluten challenge the recommendations are at least 0,3 grams gluten per kg, but hte latest recommendations I have seen is 0,5 grams per kg per day. When I did the math and weighed the bread last time, it was half a bread for my weight and the bread available. Here we can also...
  17. yes, you have the most common gene for celiac. What is the other gene, or do you have two of them? It would not really change things, though. Do you think you have celiac without a positive blood test? That is quite common, at least 20% of celiacs with total villous atrophy have negative blood tests. Of course you not eating much gluten might just...
  18. at least 20-30% of biopsy diagnosed celiacs have negative blood tests.....according to literature. Even more with patchy celiac.
  19. with neruological symptoms, the ttg-6 antibodies are involved and they cross-react to a lesser degree with ttg-2 which is used for celiac testing. DH has ttg-3 antibodies. Open Original Shared Link
  20. I have two DQ5 too, and I have DH and I am very gluten sensitive.
  21. there are some charts with alpha and beta chains here Open Original Shared Link so 0505is simply DQ7....and DQ7 celiacs are described in literature, so one could say DQ2, 8 and 7 are celiac genes. Hadjivassiliou found that 20% of his gluten ataxia patients had DQ1. There are also interesting charts on the HLA DR page on wikipedia, with corresponding...
  22. wow that is an outdated range for thyroid, since above 3 is hypothyroid together with symptoms. Normal TSH is from 0,3-1,5, and typically very close to 1. If you go to a doctor with D.O. (doctor of osteopathy, typical family practice) they usually looka t hte whole picture with symptoms and normal ranges.
  23. normal TSH is very close to 1, and free t4 and free t3 are around the middle or higher. But there have been severely hypothyroid patients with a TSH of 1,6 and or free t4 of 17 (10-20) A TSH of 3 is way too high for normal
  24. 05* alone means half a DQ2,5 kind of 0501 is the alpha chain if DQ2,5 but it is possible to have that alone 0505, I do not remember anyone posting with an actual 0505 alpha chain but before they just called it 05* I think
