ARCHIVED Newbies: How Is Everyone Doing?
zkat replied to Emily Elizabeth's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I thought I would post here, even though I am 6 months gluten free. Jan. I thought I was gluten-free, but seems I was gluten light-wow if I only knew then what I know now! So truly not gluten free until Feb. Feb. I was OK with all of it, I was relieved to know what was wrong with me all those years. Still ate out way too much and took too many chances... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Reaction To Synthroid Or Hypthrodism?
zkat replied to zkat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
No, I really have Pernicious Anemia. I tested low on B12 and folic acid in 2000, as well as the hypo thyroid and was told by my then dr. that it didn't matter, unless I was trying to get pregnant . After I get the thyroid meds leveled out, I will go back and get exact levels on B12 and folic acid. I can say that today I feel so much better than yesterday... -
ARCHIVED Is This A Reaction To Synthroid Or Hypthrodism?
zkat replied to zkat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
He felt the Synthroid dose was not high enough (He didn't prescribe the dose, his NP did)-it the was the smallest dose available, so he doubled the Armour dose comparatively. I don't know much about the PA-just that it is low B12 and that is about it. I was going to tackle the thyroid first and then start on it. The Thyroid stuff has been horrible... -
Jessica-I sent you a PM regarding Doctor's in Garland. Please feel free to message me back if you have questions. I have no clue on the relation between shellfish and iodine, sorry. I seem to have more intolerances rather than allergies, except for Mesquitos.

Welcome! I am very lucky, it is just my husband and me and our kitchen is gluten free. I think the general feeling is that as long as the dishes are cleaned well, then they should be OK. Now, I threw out the toaster and the mixer and the wooden spoons and my wooden cutting boards. My calphalon cookware is not non-stick, so it is fine and I don...

I don't trust doctors or the entire medical field. 11 years of being sick and being told I need a shrink rather than finding out what was wrong made me a little leary. I went gluten-free in Jan. of this year after some research and a really bad time with my stomach. Like most other's here, after a month-I saw an amazing change. I was diagnosed with...

ARCHIVED Is This A Reaction To Synthroid Or Hypthrodism?
zkat replied to zkat's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
UPDATE: Normally I see the Nurse Pract., but something this serious I went wanted to talk to the Dr. My blood pressure was 188/92 (normally 120/80) and he didn't like me on the Synthroid, so he switched me to Armour Thyroid, which I am happy about b/c what I have read, the Synthroid would not help me much. He also gave me the numbers from my panel. ... -
ARCHIVED So Confused!
zkat replied to lob6796's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am also gluten-free, CF and Soy free. I like Pacific Foods brand Vanilla Almond milk. It tastes just like a powdered donut to me :-) When I was researching milk alternatives, I kept seeing conflicting statements about Rice Dream, therefore they do not get my hard earned dollars. Kat. -
ARCHIVED Is This A Reaction To Synthroid Or Hypthrodism?
zkat posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I started Synthroid 3 weeks ago. Since I have had intermittant hives that keep getting worse. At first I thought it might be because of the hypothyrodism, but I am beginning to wonder if it is a reaction to Synthroid. I am also retaining water pretty bad and when the hives act am, my mood gets real emotional/crabby. (Could just be from the constant itching... -
I am very sorry you are feeling ill. We went to Cabos last summer, prior to gluten-free and are going back in Dec. What places did you eat? Where did you stay? We are staying at Playa Grande, though we never eat at the resort. I love the local flavor. I am so ready to go back! Kat.

I have a girl's night planned on Sat. at Gloria's in Addison. Does anybody know what is safe there? I have also sent an e-mail, but that has not been very successful for me here lately. Kat.

Thank you for the responses. Somehow it is comforting that I am not the only one. The fasting glucose is on the higher end of normal. I think the glucose tolerance test will show that is pretty high. I had run 4.5 miles and been fasting for 12 hours before the test and my blood sugar was still 114. Since the original post, I have seen some improvement...

Now I have to remember which one it was, because there was one that I found. HMMM, it will bug me now.

I believe Campbell's onion soup is gluten free. I don't have a box to check at the house, but am pretty sure it is the only one I could find gluten-free

Thank you so much for the link. It is very informative. My husband keeps wanting to know what is next. He is scared to death that I am going into total system failure and no one is catching it I can't blame him, he has as much faith in doctor's as the rest of us. He has been with me through this whole thing.

I think that particular reading was low. I ran 4.5 miles the night before and was fasting, so it will be interesting what the Fasting glucose test will say. I don't fear diabetes, the way I see it, it is known and can be handled, unlike the undiagnosed celiac for years. That was scary, this is just pricking my finger, which as much blood that has been...

I hate getting soyed, as much as I hate getting glutened! For me, it starts with very bubbly gas that I can feel moving through my system, then it is extremely foul smelling. I end up with bad diarrea. The gas usually last for about 2 days. My face always breaks out with systic acne and my back will start breaking out too. I react to soybeen oil...

A little history-11 years of IBS, fibromyalgia, tooth enamel problems. Went gluten-free in Jan. and bam, I feel a million times better. Last week I started having dizzy episodes, nausea, tired, blood sugar issues so I went to the doctor and it turns out I have hypothyroidism. OK, I buy that-the two seem to be closely connected, but my fasting blood glucose...

My report: When we got there, I told my waitress that I was the one with allergies, so she brought me the regular menu and told me "What we normally recommend for people who cannot have wheat, barley or Rye is the Shrimp Coctail and the Pollo Reggianito" The meal was wonderful-it is grilled chicken breast with a marinara sauce and grilled squash. Afterwards...

Excercise tends to help me feel better. Have you added anything new to your diet in the past couple of days?

ARCHIVED Ketchup And Dextrose
zkat replied to gfmolly's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Dextrose is fine, it is a fancy name for sugar. Heinz Ketchup is also gluten-free. The other thought is Cheese. It can be a problem for some people. I react to dairy almost the same way as Gluten. If you are new to the Gluten free diet, it may just be that this is one of those days. While you are healing, there are good days and bad days and sometimes... -
My SIL is getting married this afternoon and she picked this local Italian place for her reception. I freaked out at first, but then e-mailed the caterer to see if they could accommodate me. I talked to her yesterday and she assures me that anything that does not include Pasta can be modified. She said they get requests all the time and has all ready...

ARCHIVED gluten-free And Dairy-free Recovery Drinks?
zkat replied to carrielynn's topic in Sports and Fitness
Well, it's not in time for your ride, but you can try it for next time. I like Endurox recovery drinks. You have to mix it yourself, but it mixes rather easy. It is gluten free, but does contain traces of soy, so I can't drink it anymore. I miss it. Now I mix egg white protien powder with dextrose. Not the same -
ARCHIVED Almond Breeze
zkat replied to Buck22's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
They do contain soy, I also use the Pacific Brand and love the vanilla flavor. I was so excited to find this. It is hard to find sometimes. The only place I have found it is at Whole foods. -
ARCHIVED Have You Had Gluten Reactions To These Products?
zkat replied to Carriefaith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I reacted very badly to the black bean and vegatable enchiladas and the black bean chili. This was back in Jan.
