ARCHIVED Brands Of Certain Products
MaryJones2 replied to KarenFe's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I use McCormick spices, Colman's Mustard Powder (the mixed mustard in the jar is not gluten-free but the dry is) and buy my sugars at Trader Joe's. -

ARCHIVED How Many P.p.m. (gluten) Can You Safely Tolerate?
MaryJones2 replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Tim and Peter are correct about the PPM being a complex beast. 20PPM is generally accepted in the US but not yet a regulation. This is also a good explanation of PPM: Open Original Shared Link (There is one update to the doc - Europe also set their limit to 20PPM recently) Did your supplier say what a bit over was? There are quite a few suppliers of flours... -
Wow 6 is really low. Having low ferritin and normal hemaglobin is possible and can cause the symptoms you mentioned. I don't believe the nurse practitioner is correct - your ferritin needs to be addressed. Have you seen this site: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Some Help From Thyroid People
MaryJones2 replied to wschmucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Well I would think an endocrinologist would be the best person to understand that you have issues even when your TSH is normal. But, I think there are two kinds of endocrinolgists and you really just have to try a few. But I don't see how my process here helps you in France... I found this site maybe they can point you in the right direction? Open Original... -

ARCHIVED Diarrhea , Will It Ever Go Away?
MaryJones2 replied to Gf Jane's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jane, welcome aboard! It is frustrating. It took me a very long time to work through things and even 3 years later I am still learning! I had to do exactly what you are doing and it took months to figure everything out. Please don't kill me here but unless I read something incorrectly you actually added 4 things back in on the same day: quinoa, sugar... -
ARCHIVED Some Help From Thyroid People
MaryJones2 replied to wschmucks's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
That sounds a lot like me. My TSH was 3.9 which is technically still normal by most lab standards and my GP. I always share my bloodwork and my Endocrinologist picked up on it right away and prescribed Armour. With the low T3 thing it's important to find the right medication as not all of them address T3. -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Fish Food
MaryJones2 replied to MaryJones2's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the info. We had a tank a few years ago and it was really more trouble than it was worth (mostly because I was the one cleaning it!) so I really only want a beta for the kitchen counter. I laughed when I was reading the fish food ingredients because the main ingredient was wheat (high gluten) and I pictured a fish sitting in the water going now... -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Fish Food

Does anyone know of a gluten-free fish food? I haven't been able to find one yet. -
ARCHIVED Need Pediatric Gastro In Atlanta Region

Cynthia Rudert is also in Atlanta. Her number is (770) 475-0903. -
If I know and trust the restaurant I'll get seasonings but if it's an unfamiliar place or one that just doesn't give me the warm fuzzy I will order everything plain just to be safe. I get really sick and am very sensitive so I tend to error on the side of caution when eating out.

ARCHIVED Does This Sound Like Celiac Disease?
MaryJones2 replied to jshelton999's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Those symptoms are certainly some of the most common. Many of us also have Hashimoto's. It sounds like your doctors are following the right path so hopefully you'll find your answer soon. Regardless of your test results, you can try the gluten-free diet after your endoscopy and see if it helps any of these symptoms. -
ARCHIVED Drinking With Celiac Disease
MaryJones2 replied to LandonL's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I was never a beer drinker so gluten-free beer isn't appealing. Red wine and tequila are my drinks of choice. I've never had a problem with either. -
You really have to ask about the rice at any restaurant. It's not gluten-free in more places than you think. It's hit or miss at a Mexican restaurant. These guys have free dining cards for download: Open Original Shared Link

Here's a thread on cracker barrel that might help: https://www.celiac.com/gluten-free/index.ph...er+Barrel\ It's 2 years old but since their menu never changes I'm guessing the information is still reasonably accurate.

ARCHIVED Urban Gluten Legends
MaryJones2 replied to thleensd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Funny you should mention that Tim. That is one that bothers me too. I spent 1/2 the day at the dentist today having all kinds of fun stuff done and I couldn't find one single product that contained gluten. The only thing my dentist has ever excluded was the baking soda pressure wash used for cleanings - not because it contained gluten but because it was... -

ARCHIVED Advice For Newly Diagnosed?
MaryJones2 replied to JennySchu's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
It sounds like you have most everything covered here! I certainly don't think it's too much and the baseline is so important. I'd definitely get the celiac panel if you're still eating gluten. It might be useful in the future. There are a few specific tests related to iron and thyroid that might not be tested unless you specify. Most doctors only... -
I've been at this a while and don't know if there is a blanket statement for every situation. Generally I think it's really stressful for a host/hostess who isn't familiar with the gluten-free diet so I always let them know ahead of time that I'll be bringing my own food and not to worry about making any accommodations for me. If it's a sit down dinner...

ARCHIVED Mccann's Instant Oatmeal
MaryJones2 replied to Mountaineer Josh's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
McCann's isn't really considered gluten-free but a few people here can eat them. They estimate their oats contain 50ppm. -
I assume the chicken is marinated or has some coating that contains gluten. As with any fast food joint cross-contamination with the fryers and grills are the biggest concerns so my guess is their allergen chart is based on the status of the raw ingredients only.
