ARCHIVED How To Tell If Lunch Meats Are Gluten Free
MaryJones2 replied to heavy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Generally speaking you'd want to check out anything with natural flavors, unspecified spices, etc. Here is a list of meats that may be helpful: Open Original Shared Link Hopefully some of the parents here can give you suggestions on addressing this with the school. One option is to send a box of food to the cafeteria so they can pull something out... -

ARCHIVED Is It Normal/okay To Have Stomach Pain After 1 Year?
MaryJones2 replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
As ravenswood said you should be checked out by a doctor to make sure it's not something more serious. I observed something odd in my body and will share. I had major issues with lots of foods. I discussed with my doctor and he suggested taking Tagment HB daily and Pepto twice daily for 3 weeks. I did this 3 months ago I've seen dramatic improvement in... -
ARCHIVED Is It Normal/okay To Have Stomach Pain After 1 Year?
MaryJones2 replied to raisin's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would agree that it can take quite a while to fully heal. It took 2 years for a lot of my symptoms to disappear and another year before I could tolerate a lot of foods. Pepto Bismol is your friend. Tagment HB also works well for me. -
That's a tough situation. I don't think I would say anything to anyone since it is a job interview and I wouldn't want to appear high maintenance. I would pack enough food to get me through the day and take my food to lunch. I am not one to hide and eat so if we went to a place that couldn't accomodate me I'd pull my lunch out and answer questions. If...

ARCHIVED Is It Possible To Tolerate Rye And Still Have Celiac?
MaryJones2 replied to bevy13's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Hi bevy13, Celiacs can't tolerate any of the gluten grains. A lot of us seem to have different reactions to the different gluten grains but it's still a reaction. Do you have issues with barley or oats? You could have a wheat allergy or intolerance which would explain the negative tests. Have you had any allergy testing? Janet -
ARCHIVED Degree Of Sensitivity To Foods Question
MaryJones2 replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The ultra sensitives are a tough bunch. Most of us would take one look at the deli counter and not go in so that might explain why you haven't had someone ask. Perhaps if you put up a sign detailing your processes for preventing cross contamination you could put our minds at ease. As I said earlier the overwhelming majority of celiacs will love you... -
ARCHIVED Visiting Family Out Of Town

I think this is what you are looking for: Open Original Shared Link -
My apologies. It was a poorly worded response. Here are the ingredients from the March 12, 2009 US Ingredient statement: French Fries: Potatoes, vegetable oil (canola oil, hydrogenated soybean oil, natural beef flavor [wheat and milk derivatives]*), citric acid (preservative), dextrose, sodium acid pyrophosphate (maintain color), salt. Prepared...

ARCHIVED Degree Of Sensitivity To Foods Question
MaryJones2 replied to doodle's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I am pretty sensitive and don't do well with any food made in a shared kitchen so I probably wouldn't visit you but I'll tell you the things that I thought about when reading your posts. The thing I would be most concerned with are the bread crumbs from the deli and the crumbs from the pies, etc. It would be pretty darn hard to clean everything up and keep... -
ARCHIVED Intestinal Healing
MaryJones2 replied to JWood's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Is Activia gluten-free? I thought they used barley in their natural flavors. -
ARCHIVED Medifast On gluten-free Diet
MaryJones2 replied to JennGF's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi Jenn, Welcome to the board! I had several very detailed conversations with a physician who was supporting Medifast and also researched the ingredients thoroughly. Most of the products are heavy on soy and dairy which can be problematic for new celiacs. A few products have a label saying they contain 10 ppm or less of gluten (and at least one that says... -

ARCHIVED I Never Thought Travel Would Suck
MaryJones2 replied to Mother of Jibril's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
A small rice cooker or electric wok makes awesome hotel meals. With a little creativity, you can cook pasta, rice, vegetables, beans, etc. -
ARCHIVED Juice Plus
MaryJones2 replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If you decide to move forward verify that they've removed the oats and barley and that they are indeed gluten-free as their website still lists questionable ingredients and does not mention their gluten-free status. The cost is $41.75 per month which is about $500 per year. -

And as always, if you have any issues with a moderator please discuss your concerns with Scott directly. As Tim said we are all volunteers here and devote a considerable amount of time ensuring this board runs efficiently and provides the best information possible. -
There is a small amount of wheat and beef added to the fries during processing. However, the fries have been evaluated by the CSA and found to have no detectable levels of gluten in them: Open Original Shared Link Some of us eat them and others don't so it's really all about your comfort level. Cross contamination is probably the biggest concern...

ARCHIVED Worcestershire Sauce

Lea & Perrins is only gluten-free in the US. I believe they use malt vinegar outside the US. Link to Canadian site: Open Original Shared Link -
ARCHIVED Gluten In The Garden?
MaryJones2 replied to SGWhiskers's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also enjoy my life more when I don't have to think about it so I research everything before it comes home the first time and take precautions when cleaning out old stuff when I remember possibly contaminating it in a past life. I haven't had any issues with compost but I often do wonder what's in it (that's not just a gluten thing). There was wheat... -
ARCHIVED "Super Sensitive" Celiacs.....
MaryJones2 replied to jerseyangel's topic in Super Sensitive People
So I took a little road trip this weekend and had some time to think about fast food. I only eat Chick-Fil-A fries when I'm on the road but have seen quite a bit about Five Guys fries. Has anyone had any issues with them? What other things do you trust at fast food joints? We don't eat chicken, beef or pork so that always limits us a bit. -

ARCHIVED Super Sensitive Celiacs
MaryJones2 replied to dilettantesteph's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thai Kitchen is a responsible company and is very safe for celiacs, including many sensitive ones. I'd feel more comfortable if you tested their entire product line and based your opinions on that instead of just one product. -
ARCHIVED Juice Plus
MaryJones2 replied to digmom1014's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I think a lot of the Juice Plus claims are unsubstianted. Plus they are frightfully expensive. I believe some of the vitamins contain barley and oats so I would question their gluten-free status. -
ARCHIVED Thin Crust Pizza
MaryJones2 replied to MollyBeth's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Chebe pizza makes an awesome thin crust pizza.
