  1. False negatives on the bloodwork are pretty common. False positives aren't. If your bloodwork was positive then that is a formal diagnosis. I don't know that I would pursue a biopsy either unless there is concern that something else is going on too. Perhaps your new GI just wanted to make sure he was being thorough but that doesn't excuse his vegetarian comment...
  2. I am certainly going to research this! We drive to Birmingham frequently to visit family so it would be nice to have a place to stop along the way. I didn't realize there were any gluten-free options around Anniston.
  3. It's not a recipe but we absolutely love Open Original Shared Link. It's a staple around our house.
  4. Trader Joe's Albacore Tuna is also soy-free. It's just tuna and water. I eat it all the time and have never had a problem. It's one of the dozen or so processed foods I can eat.
  5. Your premiums will be very high on COBRA (102% under federal COBRA and 110% under cal-COBRA) so another option is to look into private insurange with BCBS, Aetna, etc. You will likely see significant savings and have a lot more control over your plan options. Here is the DOL site on COBRA: Open Original Shared Link If you lost your job after September...
  6. Awesome! There are quite a few people in my community that benefit from their program. I have one more question. Everything on the allergen free menu is described as coated. Do you know what the coating is? I saw that on the menu and wondered.
  7. When we travel we like to stay at apartment style hotels with kitchens. I can at least eat breakfast and dinner there (even if it's early or late) and pack a lunch. I've been in a few professional situations where we've had to say well it would be great to stay at this hotel with everyone but we really need to stay down the street so we'll meet you for breakfast...
  8. I've been following them for some time and love their concept. I haven't quite figured out their definition of regular unit/box though. Does this mean you have order a regular box to get the allergen free box? Per their Open Original Shared Link: Can we receive more than one unit or special? Yes, you can order as many regular units as you would...
  9. Kinnikinnick and Gluten Free Pantry make angel food cake mixes. You might try one of those.
  10. Chebe is finicky. Even if you make it properly it's still not going to puff up much. I have found that you have to measure the wet ingredients exactly. Just being a little too wet or dry can make it inedible. I've also found that over kneading can make it gummy inside. As the previous poster said over cooking can make it rock hard. I mix it with a fork until...
  11. Well, the only advice I have for you is to just say no! Trust no one and make no apologies for not eating their food or bringing your own food. It's less stressful for everyone. People try so hard to accomodate us but they really can't unless they live our life and truly understand our needs. So the best way to deal with it is to bring your own food. Hopefully...
  12. Happy Birthday Patti! Did you say hi to Chuck Norris yet?
  13. Try one of these: Open Original Shared Link For starches you can sub potato, arrowroot or amaranth. Sorghum, rice, millet, teff and coconut make great flours.
  14. How exciting. We have several friends who adopted daughters from China. We rented a service apartment for our stay. The major cities in China are cosmopolitan so you shouldn't have any problem finding fresh meats and vegetables at the grocery stores. I packed pasta and snacks but didn't really need to. I found a chain of stores that carries gluten-free food...
  15. I know what you mean. I too have a lot of issues and I always question the medications or supplements that I take. Oddly, I don't with the b12 shots. I think it's because it's so easy just to take a shot every now and again and not have to worry about it!
  16. We had a mixed house for a while but over time it went totally gluten-free. I think people have to get used to the taste of gluten-free cooking and would think that your young children would adapt quickly and learn we eat this way at home and I can eat this way when I'm not. For the first year or so my husband would make pasta and sandwiches on his counter...
  17. If it is truly pernicious anemia (and it sounds like it is) and you stop the injections you'll become anemic again as your body lacks intrinsic factor which is required to properly absorb b12 through normal digestion. Some people with pernicious anemia have impared ability to absorb but most have no ability to absorb it in the digestive tract. That's why...
  18. How were you diagnosed? There are tests that can tell you if you have pernicious anemia vs. run of the mill B12 deficiency.
  19. Most multivitamins contain all of the iron you need to keep your levels normals. However if you are more than slightly anemic eating red meat or taking a multivitamin won't sufficiently increase your iron levels so you need a temporary supplement (these are usually prescription). Most doctors like to see Ferritin levels at least 80. I think iron should...
  20. I intrepreted this part of their statement to mean the beef wasn't safe: Suggestions for Wheat and Gluten Sensitive Individuals: [*]Tostada [*]Fiesta Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef; order without the shell and without the Red Strips) [*]Express Taco Salad (order Chicken instead of Beef) [*]Zesty Chicken Border Bowl
  21. Per Open Original Shared Link they have gluten. But, I don't see oats in your description so perhaps there is gluten hiding in the natural flavors or something. It would be worth emailing and asking for clarification.
  22. I second Kirkman. I take the Perry Prenatal and love it. Freeda also makes soy-free vitamins.
  23. Try one of these. I'm sure you can sub pinto for garfava. Open Original Shared Link
  24. We are heading down to Cancun for a wedding in a few weeks and I was wondering if anyone has been to the El Dorado Royale? If so, how was your gluten-free experience? It's a rather expensive resort and they told me they can accomodate me but I thought I would ask and see if anyone else has been there. We'd like to stay there since that's where the wedding...
  25. Pepto-Bismol helps a lot with the pain.
