  2. I don't do well with them either (nuts and coconut aren't really my friends). Larabars are certified by the GFCO and they require that a product test at 10ppm or less. From the Larabar FAQ: What are the quality standards for L
  3. I know what you mean. I wasn't sure I wanted to comment on the article because I didn't particularly care for being lumped into the fad disease category. There has been so much advancement in the food department in the last few months and I am hopeful that the trend will continue. I just finished my first box of Rice Chex and it was wonderful but I have to...
  4. Odd question but what are you eating with the rice milk? I was convinced a while back that I had a problem with a food and it took a very long time to figure out I always had two things together and the problem food wasn't what I thought it was.

  6. Companies are only required to list the top 8 allergens in their allergen statement. The top 8 are: wheat, soy, dairy, shellfish, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, and fish. Gluten is not considered a top 8 allergen so they are not required to list barley or rye.
  7. Open Original Shared Linkmakes a great packaged gluten-free/df pie crust. You can use margarine, shortening or coconut oil.
  8. It's not soup but I like the Thai Kitchen takeout meals.
  9. Wal-Mart is one of the best places to buy gluten-free items. Many Great Value brand items are clearly labeled gluten-free. A lot of their stores carry Gluten Free Pantry and Bob's Red Mill.
  10. LOL. I don't have a cookie recipe for you but Enjoy Life chocolate chips are gluten, dairy and soy free (no lecithin either) and are quite tasty in baked goods. Also, a lot of people use coconut oil or palm oil shortening in baked goods.
  11. Hi Brenda, Wheat grass is not on the safe lists. Here is a list of unsafe foods to get you started: https://www.celiac.com/articles/182/1/Unsaf...ents/Page1.html Gluten is a lot more than flour. Best of luck. Janet
  12. Trader Joe's also recently started carrying a corn-free powdered sugar.
  13. I suggest you pick a few that interest you and call the companies. I know there are several that are gluten-free but don't know brands.
  14. I've had several and they all pretty much do the same thing. The selling point for me is cleanup. Some of them don't have removable parts or a design that makes it hard to clean. Some of the more expensive models have filters for the oil that is very handy. I have the compact Cuisinart and love it - it's a great size for 2 but if you are looking for something...
  15. Does anyone know where I can find a good selection of gluten-free products in Pensacola?
  16. I think it would be a good idea to be checked out for anemia especially since you're pregnant. The CBC only checks hemoglobin and that isn't always a good indicator of anemia so you also need to have serum iron, ferritin, TIBC (total iron binding capacity).
  17. I most often associate pica as a symptom of iron deficient anemia. Anemia was my initial symptom. When I was severely anemic I craved ice. It was so bad I had to have 3 crowns replaced because I cracked them. But now that you guys mention it I also used to love the smell of gasoline and markers too.
  18. Your anxiety will improve over time as you become more comfortable with the diet and dealing with situations like this. Since you are new to this I would recommend taking all of your food or preparing your food when you get there and make it similar to what everyone else is eating. It's pretty hard to accurately explain to someone else how to cook gluten...
  19. I do know how you feel. I've been at this a few years and have a very large family that gets together a few times a year. I bring my own food too and prefer to do so. I am just there to have a good time and enjoy the company but occasionally the conversation turns to my diet or my food and before I (or my husband) can successfully change the subject someone...
  20. Isn't he though? I would not be the person I am today had I not met him. I spent 10 years going to doctors who could never come up with anything and this man spent 10 minutes with me and said I know exactly what is wrong with you.
  21. Well as you know pernicious anemia is a lifelong condition and your body can't absorb B12 through your digestive system so you have to get it elsewhere and it is most commonly treated via injection. Your B12 level might be fine now but if you have pernicious anemia and stop the injections it will eventually go down. I think your first doctor gave the correct...
  22. I second Dr. Delcher altough he might be a bit of a drive but so worth it. I can't say enough kind things about him.
  23. Bette Hagman's Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread was a lot of help when I was learning to cook. Making gluten-free bread is so different and she has a lot of good info on flours and techniques in there. That is really the only gluten-free cookbook that I use. All of the other ones are mainstream and I just sub flours, etc.
  24. Hi LCotter, Can you tell us why you are on the gluten-free diet? Is it because you were diagnosed with celiac or your doctor suggested it to treat another condition? That would really determine what kind of diet you should be on. If you are diagnosed with celiac then I don't think the FODMAP will be an option for you as it doesn't restrict gluten completely...
  25. The last time I checked with McCormick all of their artifical flavorings were gluten and dairy free. Did you verify the yellow food coloring?
