  1. Tasty Bites makes a lot of packaged meals that would be handy for a situation like this (we use them for backpacking). They are reasonably nutritionally balanced too. Trader Joe's makes shelf stable pre-cooked rice (white and wild are gluten-free).
  2. It's certainly worth visiting your gynecologist for a checkup as it can be a number of things including endometriosis, bladder issues/infections as mentioned. Appendicitis can also cause pain in your lower right quadrant. Thyroid issues can cause heavy or erratic bleeding. Cysts can be very painful all the time, some of the time or not at all.
  3. I was diagnosed at 32 but recall having what I now know were symptoms as early as 12. I was in and out of doctor's offices for years with seemingly random complaints before someone thought to test for celiac.
  4. Jenny, I think Wellshire Farms gave you bad information. The USDA currently has no policy defining gluten-free in the US. The FDA is recommending the definition be set at 20ppm but that isn't official yet. Either way Wellshire Farms fare exceeds anything acceptable for us and it's quite frustrating!
  5. Patty, I am using Chreese with no issues (it's made in a dedicated facility and they test to 10ppm). I also finally tried a product called Open Original Shared Link. It comes in a shaker. It's made from walnuts and I haven't had any issues with it either.
  6. I knew about the joint compound but the plywood is new to me. I am going to check into that. Thanks yolo!
  7. Call me crazy but...I get sick every single time I am around drywall. I first noticed it when we were doing some renovation work at home a few years ago. I also work occasionally on construction sites and can't even go into an area when the drywall is being finished. There is one very small study about inhaled gluten but I don't know of a study involving...
  8. Oh my gosh! Thank you so much Patty. I love this forum.
  9. Several years ago Trader Joe's carried Sweet Rice Flour. It came in a pink or purple package and had the best gluten-free pancake recipe on the back. I know I cut it out and saved it but I can't find it now and really want it. Does anyone have a copy? I've tried at least a dozen recipes and haven't been able to find a taste that is similar to that one...
  10. I have a couple of Lodge cast iron loaf pans and love them! If you heat them first you can get a great crunchy crust. I also think the bread rises more in the cast iron. I've never been happy with telfon or pyrex. The bread comes out too soggy for my taste. But I'm a crust girl. I've also never had a problem getting the bread to cook all the way through...
  11. Every restaurant and chain is different and until you know for sure there aren't any additives in the burgers and that they know how to cook a burger free from cross contamination you'll have to ask. Many have gluten-free menus that will tell you how to order a burger gluten-free. 100% beef burgers usually aren't a problem but you'd probably want to make...
  12. Thanks for the clarification elonwy. You are always so thorough with your responses. I always learn something. I miss In N Out. It was a staple once
  13. The last info I have on In N Out is that the sauce is gluten-free. Everything else is gluten-free except the buns. My biggest concern there would be CC. It would be worth another call to them about their sauce though... Open Original Shared Link
  14. There are two R.O.C.K. (Raising Our Celiac Kids) chapters in Michigan. I don't know anything about Michigan so I don't know if they are close to you: Macomb Township - ROCK'n MI Support Group Contact: Kimberly Fanelli Macomb Township, MI 48044 Tel: (586) 226-8480 E-mail: Open Original Shared Link West Bloomfield - Support Group Contact: Gail...
  15. I really like Bette Hagman's The Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread. It was a big help and I often use it as a reference when converting recipes.
  16. Awesome! I will try it out. I am also wondering about Miss Roben's. I haven't found many reviews or comments on that brand.
  17. This is an excellent Open Original Shared Link. Here is an important excerpt from the interview: For all of them the basic [treatment] is a gluten-free diet. But the rules of engagement are different for where you are on the spectrum. That is why a proper diagnosis is extremely important. Celiac disease is an all-or-none proposition. If you go on a ...
  18. I do ok with small amounts of corn in medications, xanthan gum, etc. but don't seem to tolerate cornstarch in mixes. I can do it once like at a restaurant but if I eat it for a few days I start to notice.
  19. Does anyone have a 2 lb. bread machine mix or recipe that they use that is free of dairy, soy and corn? I tried Pamela's and my body is telling me that it's got a little soy in there so I was hoping someone had another suggestion. I have a few nut based breads but was looking for rice, sorghum, bean, etc.
  20. This site from Open Original Shared Linkmay be helpful with the conversion. I use it a lot these days. I'd try several gluten-free flour mixes and see what kind of results you get. I don't know which would taste best though so I don't have any brand recommendations.
  21. The only brand I've run across with wheat flour is the Coleman's prepared mustard in a jar. Coleman's mustard powder is gluten-free.
  22. I believe the standand in the EU was just set this week to 20ppm to be 'gluten-free' and 100ppm for 'very low gluten'. The compliance date is 2012 for manufacturing and labeling changes. I believe wheat starch is still allowed. Here is a link. If you Google it you can find a few more on the subject.
  23. This happened a few weeks ago but I just saw the notice today and didn't recall it being posted here so I thought I would pass along... Whole Foods Market is excited to bring you ''Celebrating Your Choices,'' a series of shopping lists and information for those on special diets. We believe that food should bring pleasure along with good health...
  24. This is an interesting topic for me. I am a farm girl too and have dogs, cats and chickens. I am sensitive to inhaled wheat so I don't like it around the house. I am currently the feeder monkey so everything is gluten-free. Our cats have open access to dry food and supplement with whatever they drag in... Our dogs eat rice, beef, beans and eggs. Lots...
  25. I am dairy free (and soy too). I don't usually try to replace dairy but every now and again I crave something creamy and eat Open Original Shared Link or Open Original Shared Link. Not all Chreese is gluten-free so make sure you get the one labeled gluten-free - their gluten-free stuff is made in a dedicated facility. Several users like the Chreese nacho...
