Out of the pre-made ones, only the "easy to digest" are gluten free (and they are clearly labeled as gluten-free on the front and good!). I drink them every day. I don't know about the other ones.

ARCHIVED Magners?
Eriella replied to mak07's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I love Magners too! Strongbow is also safe. If you are in the US the safe brands are Woodchuck and Hardcore are safe too. -
I think this is great. Here are a few of my thoughts. A couple other things to mention are that people don't always realize their symptoms. I had about 5 different doctors over the course of a year ask me if I was constipated. I told them no, because I could pass feces. Because I had been constipated for so long, I didn't realize that an egg sized bowl...

ARCHIVED Need To Feed 11 Gluten Eaters I Don't Know Very Well
Eriella replied to cruelshoes's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Here is my taco recipe if you want it. I have made this for a big crowd (50) and it was easy and took 1 hour and 15 minutes from the time I walked into the kitchen until people ate. The only time they realized something was fishy was when they noticed that I was eating "normal" food. Start with the meat: Beef: 1. Place 2 lbs of beef or turkey on... -
ARCHIVED A Couple Of Questions Because I Feel Like Screaming
Eriella replied to FootballFanatic's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I also get neurological symptoms (I become a giant witch). The best thing I have found is to run or swim until my nastiness is all out. After that I am normally so tired that I crash in front of the TV with a hard cider (if it is anxiety or soda if you have depression) and fall asleep, then wake up a few hours later and my symptoms go away. Another thing... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free,dairy Free,sugar Free,soy Free
Eriella replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
What your best bet would be is cooking lessons from a good chef (note-- not a cook. This is where it is better to go for a Gordon Ramsey than a Rachel Ray). They know their ingredients inside and out and can help find something that you can eat that will keep you healthy. Some places to find these are by looking for a culinary school in the area and then... -
I agree, you can be glutenated from a kiss. My ex came back from eating pizza and drinking beer and sure enough---BANG! I was sick. However, if he rinsed his mouth out with water after eating gluten, I was fine.

ARCHIVED Ground Beef
Eriella replied to kimberly O'Brien's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Even though they claim no... walking through the bakery/pizzeria/Arbys, I get red, stiffly, sneezy, and teary. It is either a physiological reaction to the gluten or a psychologically reaction to get away before a I make a mistake :-). I have never had a GI symptom from just being around gluten unless I am cooking with it (not smart). -
ARCHIVED Brand New - Could Really Use Some Insight
Eriella replied to mmcdaniels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Worst-case, running late, completely no other options is Fritos and M&Ms and coke. If you are in the Philadelphia region, WaWa's fruit bowls, cheese sticks, and tostitos are my meal on the run. In supermarkets get a fruit salad. Then for protein either cheese, yogurt, or bean dip and for solid carb either fritos or rice cake. As far as fast... -
To get it through you fast, brew a pot of coffee and drink 20 oz and then 40 oz of water. Then repeat 3 hours later. You will be strung out on caffeine, bloated, and your butt will hurt, but it will be over faster. Then, to help your stomach recover, only eat bananas, applesauce, and rice for 24 hours. They are easy in and and easy out (sorry!). Good luck...

ARCHIVED Looking For Experienced Minds -- Does He Or Doesn't He?
Eriella replied to w919oct's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The best way it has been explained to me is that gluten intolerance is just what doctors call it because they aren't sure exactly what it is. Celiac is easy (theoretically): positive biopsy, have the gene, and positive blood work. If either of these, or both of these, are negative and gluten makes you sick, then it is complicated. It could be that you carry... -
ARCHIVED Questions For Experienced Celiac Veterans
Eriella replied to Joe Hoffman's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Your itchiness could be eczema-- or what my doctor is 95% sure is eczema. Because celiac is an allergy-based disorder (sort of-- not in the traditional sense, but in the doctor sense) and eczema is an allergy-based disorder, they run in backs. As far as the cookies... did you use the same pan as wheat cookies are made on? same spatula? in the oven at the... -
ARCHIVED Parties, Gatherings, And Informal Events
Eriella replied to amande01's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I completely understand your view, but a huge part of my life involves socializing and parties and I prefer for my intestines to not be the topic of conversation. What I do is always have an emergency pack on hand for informal parties (or if worst comes to worst, I head to a gas station on the way) with fritos, M&Ms, and diet coke. Then I put them... -
ARCHIVED New Here And Need Help. 2 Yr Old Has Celiac
Eriella replied to Lainey's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Remember little bo peep with her curds and whey? Whey is a by product of milk in when making cheese, is it is gluten free. The easiest way to remember it is by the nursery rhyme. Whey has the sugar lactose which most celiacs cannot digest in the first few months because when a celiac eats gluten, these little finger-like objects, called villi, are rubbed... -
ARCHIVED Newbie With A Question
Eriella replied to heluvsme's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Here are a few questions? Have you eliminated all forms of barley, wheat, oats, and rye from your diet? This means reading every label and checking online or calling the company to verify if something is gluten free? Are you using the same toaster, strainers, pots, and pans? They all contain gluten. Finally, are you still drinking milk/using dairy? Celiac... -
ARCHIVED I Was Crying Like A Baby
Eriella replied to Kathy'sUnicorns's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
If it makes you feel better, I just started crying because I thought I bought frosting that I can eat and found out that it wasn't gluten free. It took me months before I could sit in a pizzeria (and I still sometimes cry) or bakery. It will be a miracle if I make it though Christmas without crying over christmas cookies. I wish that I could tell you... -
ARCHIVED Duncan Hines
Eriella replied to Eriella's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks. I guess I just get to watch everybody else make cupcakes :-(. According to the websites I have seen, Pillsbury is still gluten free. But unfortunately, the store closed 15 minutes ago and all I have is Duncan Hines. -
I thought I had read that Duncan Hines Cream Home-style frosting are gluten free, but I have been seeing conflicting messages on this board. Has anyone checked recently? Because I am really, really in the mood for frosting.

Snickers Midnight Milky Way (NOT the regular one) 3 Musketeers -
Hello, I also travel a lot, and here is how I do it and stay sane. First, before I leave or as soon as I get there, I go to the grocery store and get Tostidos or Fritos, salsa, and Taco Bell Fat Free refried beans. I also pick up Thai Kitchen Noodle Carts, plain apple sauce, and fruit leathers (I get the target brand). This is my emergency kit and everything...

It is more expensive, but you can get one made. Just go to your local farmers or craft market and talk to the people working the quilt booth.

Be careful-- not all salads are gluten free. The chicken in them is often soaked in wheat-filled broth. If there is a wendy's at the food court, get a baked potato and a chili or a garden salad and waffle fry from Chic-fil-a. Other than that, I bring my own food.

ARCHIVED Encouragement Needed!
Eriella replied to moozicteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have never believed in special meals, unless it was an unavoidable circumstance (ie my sister's graduation where everyone ran to get subs and I made Thai Kitchen Noodle Cart noodles for myself). A lot of times I will make naturally gluten free food which others can add things like bread or pasta to, but I don't need to do anything else. Here are some... -
ARCHIVED Encouragement Needed!
Eriella replied to moozicteacher's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First of all, welcome to the board. Second of all, it really isn't that hard after you get through the initial month. It almost becomes like second nature. I would buy a george forman grill and a rice maker, and start from there. For dinners grill meat with McCormick spices and make rice with Knnox Bullion or make a stew in the crock pot with veggies... -
ARCHIVED Completely Overwhelmed! Help Please
Eriella replied to GFDahlia's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hello, It is completely normal and understandable to be overwhelmed. The good news is that it gets a lot easier and you don't need a PhD in Biochemistry to know what is safe. Initially, cook only whole foods-- those are foods with one ingredient on the label (ie rice, potatoes, chicken, soybeans, apples, bananas, eggs, broccoli, steak...). This helps you...
