  1. Both of my kids had chronic ear infections. First kid had an ear infection almost like clockwork every 6-8 weeks. Hers were terrible, painful, ruptured ear drums. She had hearing loss as a result. They finally put tubes in. She was a new kid. One more ear infection in the next 4 yrs! The tubes did exactly what they are designed for. Provided drainage until...
  2. For something like that, call the Doctor BEFORE the procedure day. Have the entire procedure explained to you. Step -by step and in plain English. Have them go over it and write it down until you are comfortable with what is going on. They should have expalined this to you. When you have any type of procedure done especially to a child, you need to ask...
  3. Hi! Hope you enjoy your stay here! 1. Call Disney ahead of time and let them know about your allergies /Celiacs. They are great!!!! I have some lists from my last trip there, but you should contact them for the latest. If you are staying at the resorts, they will have gluten-free safe foods for her. Same thing if you eat at any of the character dining...
  4. I hear ya! School and child care can be so hard especially when you feel completely alone. In the US you can declare the kids a 504. It is some kind of a disability label used in the public school system. I have looked into this for my elementary aged child who has a severe nut allergy when the school was not working with me. Allergies and Celiacs are...
  5. FYI: Do NOT stop feeding your child gluten until you see the gastro. The child must be consuming gluten to get accurate test results. I know it is hard to do, but let the Dr see your child on gluten first and discuss your options. Bloodwork is frequently off. The biopsy is the gold standar for diagnosis, however, it can be harder to get a good biopsy on young...
  6. My 2 yr old gets the rashes from gluten too. For her it is insanely itchy. Benadryl itch stick helps some. I use diaper creams too. But nothing makes her feel 100% better.
  7. My daughter also had a rash and it does not look like DH. Hers is on her feet and calves. But it was a constant, red, pin head rash and insanely itchy. Once she finally went gluten-free the rash is gone. It comes back when she is glutened.
  8. Boy you are having some fun with the Drs! haha. First, try some foods that cause diarrhea if eaten in excess. No more M&Ms till you are normal again. Eat tons of fruit and drink water or juice. No bananas they will bind you up. Try low acid foods for a while too. That might help with the acid. Gallbladder problems are common for Celiacs. Have...
  9. This must be a rediculous question, but....how do you make condensed milk?
  10. I usually phone call or email them. Very informal. Explain who has Celiacs (you or your child). Have a specific product in mind to ask about. Ask if it is gluten-free. If a certain ingredient is the issue, ask about it. Depending on the feed back at this point, I ask if the clearly label for gluten or if they can send me a list. Many are reluctant to send...
  11. When we travel, I pack restaurant toys. (little things that will occupy them when they are starving in a restaurant. - That is a big issue for mine!) I pack little travel snack size containers of apple sauce, canned fruits, etc. Bring crackers and cheese if your child can eat it. Bring cereal. We eat out fairly often. I try to stick to gluten-free menu...
  12. Hi Kitty Cat, I'm sure somewhere on this site someone has detailed the difference between gluten sensitivity and Celiacs. I don't have an official answer. I think this can be a very hard disease to diagnos. I think some people cannot get a true biopsy diagnosis, but try the diet and feel better. Another option for you is Entero Labs. You do not need...
  13. Hi, I have a 2.5 yr old. She is my wild child. She is my little power house. She is small but can actually throw a punch that hurts! "No" is a word she uses, but no one can use it on her. Strong willed, wild, determined, oppinionated, and STUBBORN only begin to describe her! I fought with drs for a solid year and finally forced them to test her for celiacs...
  14. Thanks for the recipes and ideas. I needed the carmel to be creamy and soft, not hard. It's for a layered graham cracker cookie. One of my favorites!!! I assume that using soy milk and dairy free butter or Crisco would change the way the traditional carmel comes out?? Maybe??
  15. You may want to go to the gastro to be sure there are no other medical issues for your child. But, if gluten-free, the tests will not work. Pursue the Entero Lab tests as another option. No dr note required. My child was blood tested and biopsied at 2 yrs old. The results were "inconclusive" but she has the gene. She always has been dairy free, but now...
  16. Just wanted to add a few things... First, keep eating gluten until your biopsy. You don't want to go through the head ache of a biopsy and have a sort of healed intestine which will make it harder t find the damaged villi. Second, beer may be out, but you can buy and order gluten-free beers. Check the local health food stores. Lee Roy Selmans is a...
  17. Does anyone know a good recipe for carmel? I need one that is dairy free too. Thanks!
  18. Thanks so much! One of my favorite fall cookies requires graham crackers! I'm so excited!
  19. My worst glutening came after about a year on the gluten-free diet. We were traveling and going to meet some old friends for dinner. Rather than try to find food and explain Celiacs and be a real pain in the ass at an old friends house I thought it would be easier to go out to eat. I picked the restaurant. I called and spoke to the manager. I arranged my...
  20. The Jack Russell is my next dog. Can't wait for the bouncing energy! I've heard the horror stories and still can't wait for a Jack. It will be several years since two dogs is already too many for me. Currently have a beagle/chiuawa (sp?) mix. Awsome dog. Barks rarely (had to train that feature!) Fearless. Compact size. Sheds little. Beagles tends to be...
  21. Thoughts and prayers going to Noah and his family. Extra hugs to all the kids.
  22. Glad to hear you found the source of the problems. Your school system might be able to pass your contact info along to other parents whose kids have food allergies. Doubtful they will give you their names. Otherwise check with the hospital, local allergists, etc looking for support groups. R.O.C.K. is usually pretty strong. You may not find someone with the...
  23. Have you tried the Tufutti brand? I'm not sure about the soy status, but it is gluten-free/CF. We like it mixed in recipes.
  24. If it helps any, here's my daughter's story. Had symptoms of celiacs. Did the biopsy and the results were inconclusive. She has one gene. We went through all of the other foods and medical issues and finally removed the gluten. She shows signs on accidental glutening. Plus the other symptoms like the rashes and starving hungry, have gone away. She has...
  25. Thanks for the list! You just saved me hours of searching
