  1. Hi again. Sorry about the delay in answering your post. I have been up to my ears in family of late--just got my brother out of the hospital and am also now taking care of my 95 year old mom. I am so grateful for your insights. It does really seem like your suggestions hit the mark--I woke up this morning with my head feeling clear instead of the...
  2. Hi Rosetapper, Thanks for the long post! We both have been through it, eh? By the way, is it the "eh?" that made you think I am British? I am not though I have a dear friend and co-worker who is and may have picked up a few of his sayings. I had forgotten about the L-Lysine vs Argenine. What is the Lysine supposed to do? I need to look these up. From...
  3. This could be it. Oh boy. Thank you again!! So--are there any non salicylic acid fruits?? I don't use aspirin--and only use ibuprofen sparingly. I do use many herbs. Lately I have been having peppermint tea... I haven't noticed veggies causing me a problem. There must be degrees of salicylates, eh? I should find a list. Not only was my mom's mom...
  4. Well my god if that is true! My celiac older sister is allergic to salicylic acid. It is possible I could be too... Thank you!! I never even really considered this for myself--though I am very allergic to aspirin. I tolerate many herbs for instance that my sister cannot... However I am seemingly allergic to most if not all fruit. Though who knows really what...
  5. I think all this is very big in its implications. There is so much denial alongside so much suffering! I am so sorry your family has had to suffer like that. Mine has too in many ways. It is so amazing, it is so very political. So many folks are in denial. It amazes me that the researchers just stopped investigating this because it didn't fit their paradigm...
  6. Thanks for the heads up. TJ's is made from coconut oil! Bea
  7. Thanks for the heads up on the l-glutamine and that fantastic article! I just forwarded the article url on to two celiac friends as well as my doubting research nurse sister. And yes, I wouldn't trust TJ's for any supplement these days, especially if I was still having weird neuro complaints. Bea
  8. Thanks Patti--I will definitely look into getting some of these. At least I have the lipstick already! Bea
  9. At this point I think I have DH light since I rarely get it any more. The detox herbs and eating lots of veggies plus exercise really helps...and of course, avoiding gluten! I still get very itchy eczema however from eating tomatoes/potatoes/peppers--in my ears and crotch. And am also just discovering I can't tolerate coconut oil etc. at all...from the...
  10. Hi Jersey Angel, Oh wow--I was just talking to my boyfriend about that possibility. I have heard of others who can't handle the coconut shells turned into carbon for most water filters. Do you use a kind that doesn't have that type of charcoal? I suppose the only way to figure that out is to stop using them and see what happens both without it and then...
  11. Hijacking? I think its good to comment on any of these threads if whatever condition relates to your own or those you know about. It really amazes me how much this topic hasn't really been sufficiently discussed. The poster who related a conference where they did talk about it and how amazed everyone's secret fear was revealed and shared e seems very...
  12. When I was in my twenties I had much pimples in my scalp and running down my neck and onto my back. It was dangerous really--I ended up getting kidney disease and the beginnings of skin cancer. Avoiding gluten and other allergens changed that. I didn't fully recover my heath til more recently by finally discovering I have to avoid all trace gluten, as well...
  13. Yes, I do. I often wonder if the pimples are related to DH. What do you think, folks? I also often get a canker sore, as well as a migraine. On its way down (after a couple of days) my body gets sore and sometimes I get painful lumps on my old hip injury. I often too get depressed/anxious say a week later... Lovely, eh? Bea
  14. I agree, it is crazy! I just wouldn't have thought it could affect me like that. The coconut oil is hexane free, cold pressed, organic. So I doubt the kind of coconut oil is the problem... Its just the coconut itself. I began to suspect it could possibly be a problem since I tend to be allergic to nuts in general. Plus my dad was allergic to the nightshade...
  15. Hi GuyC, I take co-enzyme B vitamins since they are more easily absorpable--in a complex so they are balanced. I don't know about the amount to take of the sublingual B12. However, I have just discovered that coconut oil also causes neurological symptoms for me--including sciatic nerve pain and lumps on (an old injury site) the top bones of my hips...
  16. Sheesh! I was sleeping so well. I stopped using lemons and peppers and my eczema went away. I also stopped using coconut oil and found I could sleep like a baby! But unfortunately tonight I had some leftover pancake that my boyfriend cooked for himself--I forgot til now that he used coconut oil in the pan. Just that little bit and I can't sleep--again! ...
  17. I'd like to add a few additions to to everyone else's excellent suggestions--starting with one comment: To quote: " That said, I agree with others that you should take a B-vitamin complex--and the best type is the kind that you can dissolve under your tongue. Trader Joe's sells this type." I at least slightly disagree! Whereas I have found B vitamins to...
  18. Family's can be so unkind, particularly around food issues. It is around all that social, nurturing, sharing stuff. They may also feel threatened by your diagnosis. They may be afraid they have the same or similar issues but don't want to deal with it. If they want you there they need to be more caring and accommodating. But even if they tried initially...
  19. Hope you find the answer soon - being on a really limited diet is the pits, but wow, it sure does bring you one's creativity, huh?
  20. Unfortunately most turkey stuffing has wheat etc. in it. And even if not, as I discovered last year too late, they often inject turkeys with "natural flavors" and thus the whole turkey has gluten in it when you buy it. Its possible to get one without it, but you have to work at it. As far as eating someone else's home cooked turkey, did they run the self...
  21. I just figured out that I am allergic to all nuts and fruit as well as the nightshade family. Even the smallest amount of peppers, or tree nut traces or fruit etc. and I get eczema. It matters not whether the fruit has any sugar or not. I am also allergic to the carrot family, sesame seeds, lactose, sugars, grains and peanuts. Go figure... Interestingly...
  22. I too am interested in seeing what other folks here have to say about this subject since I have members of my family who are gluten intolerant but not testable, as well as those who are officially celiac. There is so much our scientific community has not yet researched adequately concerning this subject of gluten intolerance. In addition, there are many...
  23. My mother got dh when she was 4 years old. She was treated for sprue until she was 18 or 20. After that she went back to eating gluten. It was thought that she "grew out of it." What no one notices was that she had other probably related symptoms to gluten intolerance. Increased anxiety, panic attacks. Frozen shoulder and frequent tendonitus. Frequent migraines...
  24. It depends on the person. For some distilled grain alcohol is fine, for others (like me and some others here) it is not. For someone who makes homeopathics however I would think such a person if anyone would easily get the point of how just a small ppm of gluten can affect some of us quite strongly. Why the homeopathic companies haven't realized this...
  25. The ones made from alcohol are often another matter. I finally found out why homeopathics never worked for me--the gluten from the grain based alcohol! Even most vodka (though not all) is made using glutenous grains. You would think they would make a different choice, eh? For the the tabs and pearls I was probably bothered by the lactose...
