ARCHIVED What To Do When It Seems Like It Just Isn'T Worth It
YoloGx replied to MagpieWrites's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yikes! a brown recluse and such a serious dental infection, that is a lot. Sounds kind of like me your age, though I didn't know I had celiac, I did figure out I was "allergic" to all kinds of things including most of the wheat family. You just have to keep trudging on at times like this. Some kind of meditation helps me. I do Hatha yoga. Going for walks... -
ARCHIVED Sore, Sad, And Sick Of Getting Sick!
YoloGx replied to 8Curvey8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just make sure if you go to the MD to make sure they do a culture. I would not be too quick to take antibiotics--they can mess you up, esp. if they are too strong (like what happened to me this fall--the antibiotic was worse than the ear infection and messed up my gut flora awfully). No matter what I agree its good to get checked out esp. if something... -
ARCHIVED Sore, Sad, And Sick Of Getting Sick!
YoloGx replied to 8Curvey8's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Curvey, I can really feel the pain of this. Have had my own difficulties this Fall after working too hard and getting exhausted. I am totally with you on not eating out. I take my food with me everywhere. It is just food after all; just tell whomever you are too sensitive for it to be worth the chance of getting ill. The thing is to look at why you... -
ARCHIVED Interesting New Research Being Done At U Of C
YoloGx replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have previously gone off all dairy. Now seem to do well with yogurt I make myself and ferment for roughly 24-26 hours to get rid of all the lactose. I believe the casein is OK. Maybe though I should go back to no cheese and eggs at all however...The cheese can get addicting, never a good sign. I was off all grains for 10 months and now use brown rice fairly... -

Thankfully celiac is getting more noticed. Am glad to hear that severe gluten intolerance is starting to be too. I was reading the info below your posts and noticed you also have muscle and joint aches and pains. Its one thing that has stayed with me--fragile joint connections, try as I might old injuries still plaque me if I am not careful. I have... -
Its nice to know one isn't alone in all this. Am so very glad to hear you have gotten better too! And yes, it does take patience! I just wish that when the anti gluten diet is first discussed this very real possibility of needing to go on a simple, basic, more paleo-like/scd diet was also discussed. Instead so many of us have to eventually figure it out...

I agree with the above. My roomie who also has celiac typically has a problem with roughage after he has been glutened. Soothing herbs like marshmallow root and/or slippery elm helps speed the healing process--as well as going off all roughage for a while. I also want to mention the ham--it may well have gluten in it or be CC'd. Bea

It has happened to me. I became sensitized to rice and other non glutenous grains. I thus went off all grains for 10 months and ate a kind of combined paleo/scd diet. I now can eat brown rice with relative equanimity--though I am leary of eating it every day. I can also now have eggs and cheese twice a week (though not on the same day or I still get a migraine...

ARCHIVED Interesting New Research Being Done At U Of C
YoloGx replied to Lynayah's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It is always wonderful to hear that more research on celiac is being proposed. Thank you for the link! I had no idea however that there were mice that were affected by celiac. Are there?? I wonder what is done to either find or create that state in mice. I also wonder why more research concerning celiac and severe gluten intolerance isn't being done with... -
I agree, buy your own tube of toothpast--plus I would even suggest you put your toothbrush and toothpaste in a separate spot that is off limits to everyone else in the family if they are gluten eaters. And yes its true, you could still be just as sensitive to gluten whether or not your panels came back positive or negative. Trial and error seems to be...

I think holidays and birthdays are the most difficult for people with our condition due to eating out etc. Hope your chest feels better soon. Were your lungs were affected too? Bea

Am glad it worked out alright and that your doc. at emergency knew what was happening--wow! Was dramatic way to begin the New Year. Am glad your sweetie finally is getting it. By the way, L-glutamine seems to really help as well as the usual enzymes bromelain/papain (or fresh pineapple and guava), probiotics and/or real unsweetened cultured yogurt, lemon...

ARCHIVED Oh No, Not Sprained Tendons Again! --for That?
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ravenwoodglass, is totally right. Some people have Ehrlos Danlos syndrome. Others may be somewhere in between. If its another kind of disease, I don't know. I have just noticed that for myself I have had mineral deficiencies most of my life due to malabsorption, of which the celiac made much worse and it seems others may have this problem too. I have... -

Thanks! What great idea! I will definitely get one for my mom's dog!! I had looked at some of those at the pet store but just didn't know really what they did. Am hoping it will make it easy for my mom and brother to give the dog walks too. Meanwhile I am healing faster than usual. I think the silica and msm in addition to my usual supplements is really... -

You are perfectly right Tarnalberry. I do yoga too as well as the push ups and sit ups and lots of walking (working towards using my pilates chair after an illness this fall), but it wasn't enough. I need to start swimming when able and the light weights again, also when able (which is not now). I just found out about this Ehler's Danlos. I don't think... -
ARCHIVED Oh No, Not Sprained Tendons Again! --for That?
YoloGx replied to YoloGx's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I complain but it seems you may have it even worse. Oh wow! Its possible the problem is not enough collagen--so the thing is to do the things to produce more as well as build up your muscles slowly and in a non impact kind of way. Another poster said this may be like Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. At any rate, I actually am feeling a little better today. So... -
ARCHIVED Intense Stomach Ache Happening Right Now
YoloGx replied to ratty89's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Ratty, I hope you feel better soon. Take some baking soda in water and then an hour later some lemon juice in water. That may help. Pineapple can help too as can papaya. If you have digestive enzymes they can help. L-glutamine is a godsend if you have it. Acidophilus/pro-biotcs are too. Plain yogurt also helps (assuming its OK for you). You may well... -

I know I am not alone in this. I still am not absorbing minerals like I should be and my collagen must be low since I still can easily strain my connective tissue. I have been off all trace gluten for two years now. Was just walking my mom's dog--training her to walk beside me. She was being pretty good, but it was too much for me. I wrecked my elbow and... -
I suggest you make food from scratch, just basics: meat, squash, root vegetables, brown rice, green vegetables. You will feel way healthier for it and its incredibly cheap. Bea

That does sound like a bummer--though honestly I wouldn't trust those foods even if they were gluten-free simply because those who have an "allergy" don't react to CC like we do--and thus generally are not as careful. We have to be "neurotic; they don't. Rice cakes can easily be CC'd. Just have to shrug it off. And next time, load up your plate with your...

Good luck! You'll have to go off all sweets and eat fewer carbs too--but you probably already knew that. Might well have detox reaction at first; be prepared to be grumpy and wanting sweets. I use plain stevia instead--feeds the tooth without feeding the beasties.

I have gotten Nutri-Biotic brand. Its in a glycerin base in a squeeze bottle. It lasts forever. And yes, you can just squeeze out a drop or two at a time. You might want to try other things too like oregano oil and/or garlic/ and /or caprylic acid and/or olive leaf if you do have candida overgrowth. Its often good to get it from different sides. Bea

ARCHIVED Completely Miserable...need Advice
YoloGx replied to mamaesq's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah. I think maybe I got something too. First things first--baking soda in water helps get rid of the gas. Then, at least an hour later: L-Glutamine helps soothe the irritated intestines. So does marshmallow root--takes down inflammation, soothes.. Enterically coated acidophilus improves intestinal flora. Plain real yogurt helps too--even better... -
As far as I know grapefruit seed extract is good against candida and fungal overgrowth both internally and externally. I do not believe it does anything else. It sometimes is found in remedies as a preservative. Thing is to take just a very small amount of it in a large amount of water if you take it internally. It is very strong. It can irritate the...

Whatever it is, you might want to consider using the detox herbs (dandelion, milk thistle, cleavers) and /or a variety of other ways to detox: exercise, saunas, mudpacks, fresh juiced or blended vegetables (esp. add some parsley or coriander) each day. Bea
