  1. It is unfortunately however what people of an older generation did believe. Thus I was re-introduced to gluten at age 4. I had different symptoms so my gluten reactions went unrecognized until many years later when I (in various stages) finally figured out what was going on. Thus also my mother believes she got over it too at age 20--even though it messed...
  2. I agree- take probiotics--though I would take them while taking the antibiotics too. Its also possible you are overly reacting to the amoxycillin. You might want to mention this to your doc and he or she might prescribe something that is more agreeable to you. I certainly can't take it. I have to have antibiotics that are not grown in a mold or yeast culture...
  3. Just goes to show how we are all different! I take liquid trace sea minerals for electrolytes. I would never touch anything sugary like gatorade! I simply have too much candida in my system --which do by the way contribute to neurological symptoms. Bea
  4. Its true--celiac is a symptom of an overactive immune system. I didn't know that the immune system was repressed during pregnancy. I also recall in times past that when I was really ill I often could eat food and not react to it like I would do if I were healthy. I wonder if this relates too? Of course we are going far afield from the neuro questions...
  5. My mom said the same thing. She felt the best she ever felt in her life being pregnant. As a result she took risks and ended up having 6 kids instead of 3! And yes she too has celiac--since she was four even though she thought she had "grown out of it" by her early twenties. Many of her symptoms later on were the neuro ones--headaches and joint aches, frozen...
  6. If you plan to do it yourself, get a heavy duty mask with nozzles. After working bag your work clothes, take a shower and wash whatever it was that you were wearing. Make sure to clean the mask too. I speak from hard experience since my job has been renovating old houses for several years. It took me some time to figure out what was making me ill. I now...
  7. I feel for you! So many building compounds have gluten in them--like pre mixed plaster and Fixall not to mention most glues, even for floor tiles. Even plywood dust from after making a cut. And of course most plaster boards--so avoid being around when they are being cut. You will have to clean everything thoroughly once the dust has settled. For your health...
  8. Hi Skylark, I am so sorry you are having such a painful and frustrating experience like this. Something similar happened to me a couple of years back at a supposedly vetted gluten-free restaurant that forgot about non gluten-free soy sauce being a problem. I quickly realized something was up (that 6th sense?) and asked about it -- after I had had a couple...
  9. Unfortunately most AMA docs just treat symptoms, not causes. You are being a "difficult" patient not letting him cover up your symptoms! Of course this point of view they have is inane while at the same time tragic for so many people since a lot of folks treat docs like they were mini gods. Your mom is right, don't listen to that guy; follow what your body...
  10. Am exploring a fairly radical anti-candida gluten-free diet without casein or any grains or sugars, including no fruit, winter squash, rice, potatoes, corn etc. etc. However I can finally eat eggs it seems at least every other day, yay! And a trace amount every day so alternative sunflower-meal baked goods will likely be OK. I am allergic to all nuts...
  11. Absolutely! Besides speaking from personal experience (its one of my number one difficulties with gluten, as well as migraines etc.), it has been shown by various studies to be a very common complaint for those who have celiac or severe gluten intolerance--this and a whole bunch of other neurological disorders that often create psychological as well as nervous...
  12. Could it be the milk and cheese made worse by the moving car?? By the way, I contracted celiac at age 4 months old -- so 2 is not too young. I found out just recently not only am I lactose intolerant, I am also casein intolerant. This could be happening to your child... Soy can also be an allergen too...and is here for many. At age 4 they put me...
  13. Yes many of us who are gluten intolerant do get headaches from being exposed to even trace amounts of gluten. My boyfriend is the same--we both get migraines--but don't if we are stricly gluten-free. I found I simply can't live in a "mixed" household (i.e., where others eat or handle gluten). I even get it from breathing in minute amounts of glutenous dust...
  14. Hi T.H., welcome to the club. I am just as sensitive. I just realized the headache I am feeling over one eye and around the left side of my nose is likely glutening too--from having finally retrieved my cats from my old apartment that my brother now lives in. He spackled holes in the walls with pre mixed plaster and never bothered to clean up the dust afterwards...
  15. I have been eating semi paleo for some time. It is a good anti candida as well as anti gluten diet and it gives me so much more energy! Eating grains overall does not agree with me. Maybe I can do it twice a week if I am lucky. Just recently I have gone off casein as well with good effect. I can now eat a little low glycemic fruit each day whereas before...
  16. I always thinly slice off the labels on vegetables etc. and don't lick the envelopes etc. Call me chicken. However, I figure I have enough problems without having to worry about CC from the cornstarch. I doubt they get it from a "pure" source. Similarly, I worry about the "Natural Flavors" in the otherwise grain-less cat food I get (EVO Ancestral Diet...
  17. Hi Paul, Thanks for your note--I had no idea that it was the casein that has been bothering me so! Not sleeping very well has been a huge issue for me. It often has been like my nerves are on fire. Taking co-enzyme B complex has helped enormously, plus walking and stretching. However recently it got out of hand again. Going off the casein seemed to exacerbate...
  18. The pineapple helps against inflammation. It has fresh bromelain it -- an important intestinal digestive enzyme. I also made some detox tea (dandelion root, licorice root, marshmallow root, yellow dock root, cleavers) which is helping. Nevertheless, despite some D, my migraine was short lived and less painful than usual. I don't know but am speculating...
  19. Oh--My head hurts and I have brain fog and sensitive eyes -- the sensation has been growing this afternoon and now here it finally arrived this evening. I must have gotten glutened yesterday. I went to a birthday party last night at Outbacks. I tried to be careful. But here it is...the beginnings of a migraine. I don't think I want to go there (to Outbacks...
  20. I agree Mari--this casein thing has a lot more to it than I ever imagined. As far as on the fungal front, yesterday I ate casein and gluten-free pancakes with applesauce plus pineapple in the morning, and then two bananas last night--and woke up without a furry yellowy white tongue! Instead it looked pink! Unheard of! In addition, my ears and nethers...
  21. Hi Everyone, It seems that my skin irritation "caused" by candida overgrowth or some kind of fungus (in my ears and nethers) is actually either caused by or extremely exacerbated by a casein intolerance. I have been eating 24 hour yogurt daily this last year and enjoying it -- however my itchiness and flaky red swollen skin on the outside of part...
  22. Be certain to not let them use pre mixed plaster if they are going to have to sand it afterward. The pre mix invariably has starch in it which is usually gluten! The dust goes everywhere and his hard to get rid of! Breathing it in is not good I have discovered through experience... Fortunately the old fashioned plaster of paris is usually safe. Sometimes...

    ARCHIVED Joints

I have had that problem for years--due no doubt to malabsorption from having celiac forever. But now that you mention it--the popping and crunching when I rotate my shoulders (including the collarbone) has greatly diminished--along with my elbows, neck, low back (and previously crunchy ankles) are getting a lot stronger too. As mentioned elsewhere...
  24. excellent advice! by the way for the above poster I too have candida overgrowth so it does limit my diet quite a lot too esp. fruit!! I am finding olive leaf as well as my usual oregano oil, garlic and caprylic acid and enterically coated acidophilus really helps--plus avoid as much carbs as I can handle (sometimes I just can't!). If you can take nystatin...
