Its very possible like some of the other people here have said that you have other sensitivities at work. For myself, I discovered I am very sensitive to salicylic acid, which is in most everything -- fruits and vegetables and herbs. If you react badly to aspirin, its likely you may have this condition. Often it goes with being very gluten sensitive. Its...

"I did have some Trader Joe's chocolate macaroon cookie thingies with ganache yesterday. There are no gluten ingredients listed on the label but it is done with shared lines. But I thought Trader Joe's was very careful with CC so I didn't worry about it. A couple of hours later I had my usual anxiety and feeling like crawling out of my skin that I get when...

What Medusa said is totally right. Suspect cross contamination (CC). I didn't get well until I changed my shampoo and makeup, cleaning products and even hand lotion. You also would need to put your oven in a self cleaning cycle--or if that isn't possible get one of those small portable electric ovens. If it is self cleaning, you can put your iron pots and... -
I thought it was just nightshades at a certain point and then all grains. But as it turns out it actually was/is salicylic acid sensitivity for me--which includes being off all nightshades except for peeled white potatoes. The sals is highest in the skin. Its in countless things since it protects plants from the ill effects of fungi and bugs... There...

ARCHIVED Should I Be Using Paper Towels?
YoloGx replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wanted to note that pure (or near pure) orange oil (sold as a furniture polish) kills ants just like that. Smells good too, though I guess I shouldn't touch it these days due to my salicylic acid sensitivity. Wear gloves maybe? Anyway, its another anti ant invasion remedy. We even spray it outside where the critters try to come in. Its also good against... -

No matter what, I think this topic struck a chord, eh folks?? Ignorance is bliss, but for us we can't be ignorant. The advice to not be a doormat as well as the advice to not cause WWIII and gently and gradually start to educate your MIL are both wise. The thing is to learn to not take it to heart when others are ignorant and close minded; meanwhile... -
ARCHIVED Should I Be Using Paper Towels?
YoloGx replied to Harpgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a tough one. Yes to the paper towels. Too bad it seems a waste of paper, however your health matters more. Be sure your hubby washes his face and hands and cleans his teeth before kissing you by the way... Be careful too of your youngster getting too close. Wash wash wash I am afraid... You may end up needing your family to go gluten-free at home... -

All I can add from hard experience is that some people get it and are supportive and others really just don't in great part because it is too inconvenient for them to deal with. They think its a fad. They think we are neurotic. They may even be health professionals--many of whom are in denial about the effects of diet on health, not to speak of something... -
ARCHIVED Does Anybody Stuggle To Talk When Glutened?

I don't really recall how long it took. I'll have to think on that. I just know I woke up to the realization recently when thinking of the benefits of being on an entirely gluten free diet. "Brain farts" were just such a common part of my experience since I was a child that I didn't even think about them, honestly. This particular benefit just kind of sneaked... -

Hmm. I wonder if my boyfriend got misdiagnosed? He's over the ADHD being entirely gluten free--and sometimes gets it back if he gets glutened -- along with migraines. Now I want to read more about ADD, what it is, what it isn't. Whatever it is we've got, I am just glad being gluten free takes care of it (and for me also being on low salicylic acid... -
ARCHIVED Does Anybody Stuggle To Talk When Glutened?

I hear tell gluten can cut down 1/3 of the blood supply from the carotid arteries to the brain--esp. the frontal lobe. Often causes depression too. -
Hi Sara, Have you tried grinding your own rice flour? Just use brown rice and one of those large coffee grinders (sans coffee of course). Growing your own or simply buying potatoes in bulk can help too. You can cook up a potato and mash it up later to put in your rice flour pancakes or other baked goods with eggs, agar or xanthum gum (or some combination...

Just wondering if any of you have been diagnosed with ADD? Reason I ask is that I described what its like for me and my boyfriend who also is completely unable to tolerate any gluten was diagnosed with ADHD--which has now gone away, being a year and a half off all trace gluten. He used to take Wellbutron for it. He said women tend to get ADD -- i.e.... -
Sorry to hear you can't get out of the tub these days. Perhaps you can remember this idea and try using it in the future when your body has gotten stronger, eh? You could meanwhile possibly make a foot and leg bath in a smaller deep tub and just dangle your feet and legs in hot water with epsom salts mixed in. Am thinking it might be worth a try?

Yes, I have many cns problems including not being able to find the right word when I have ingested gluten and now, these days, also high salicylic acid foods. I have a feeling its not al that uncommon. Likely a lot more is going on too that suggests you should stay off gluten, eh? -
Another related thing that helps me sleep better at night and have less spasoming is to take a hot bath with a couple of handfuls of epsom salts in it. Given I now have out and out salicylic acid sensitivity, for some reason I can't use as much epsom salts as I used to, but boy is it effective for helping me detox now as well as smoothing out my nerves...

Sorry the country life ones don't work for you Irish. I shouldn't have soy either, however I don't think its as bad a problem for me, but then you never know... I'll have to look at the Now ones--actually didn't know they had any co-enzyme b's so am glad to hear of it. Or is that the case?? I do hate it that most other co-enzyme b's have sorbitol in them... -

Congrats Irish Heart on being able to check things off on your list--I have an idea of how much you have struggled. Dancing now even if just a little when you could hardly walk before, that is something to celebrate! I just thought of another thing I am thankful for; my space outs are far less than they were in the past. I described them to my boyfriend... -

I find I have to take the co-enzyme b complex (from country life) to be much more absorpable and effective for all kinds of things. Might be worth a try for you too? -
Amazing! You are indeed an inspiration. Good luck in August, I am sure you will do well!

You are still healing. I found/find it takes longer at first or if you have been glutened a lot like I was earlier this year. I did get better but then experienced being at square one again. Taking things like pancreatic enzymes to take with your heavy protein meals would probably help. I have found that probiotics also help--take them on an empty stomach... -

Try taking vitamin B complex. And eat plenty of garlic in your food. It really helps!
